"Where are we going now, Commander?" Lingang asked.
"Can you drive to Shenzhen? I want to visit the mayor of Shenzhen next." Xiaoyun answered after seeing the ti.
"Okay... Commander Xiaoyun, can I ask sothing?"
"What is it?" Xiaoyun asked back as he took off his sunglasses before putting them into his pocket.
"Why didn’t you want to show your identity? Is this supposed to be so sort of secret visit or sothing?"
"You could think that."
With Xiaoyun not elaborating any further, Lingang didn’t ask again as he started up the car before driving it off into the distance.
---
Thirty minutes later...
As the car approached closer and closer to Shenzhen’s most busy tropolitan area, the number of skyscrapers increased almost a hundredfold.
It was even more than Guangzhou, as an endless number of skyscrapers were fully visible on both sides of the road.
With a massive signature arch in the middle that’s impossible to miss, they had arrived at the civic center of Shenzhen.
"Can’t believe this city was covered in fog a few months ago..." Xiaoyun murmured as everything looked almost unreal.
"Yeah... Actually, Command, did you know if the fog damaged any of the buildings?"
Lingang asked as he rembered the newspaper report that stated how Xiaoyun was the one who resolved the fog crisis.
"A lot of the buildings got damaged... But not this side of the city. It was mostly at the center of Shenzhen."
As the car continued driving down the streets, it eventually ca to a stop as it arrived at the tallest building in the city.
"Ping an bank..." Xiaoyun murmured as several mories suddenly started flashing inside his head.
"You ca to this place before, Commander?"
"Maybe."
As Xiaoyun exited the car and put on his sunglasses, an ard police guard imdiately stopped him when he walked towards the building.
"Sir, please show your ID—General Lingang!"
"Do you want to check my ID?" Lingang questions the guard as he quickly catches up to Xiaoyun.
"N-No, sir!"
"Good. Now move out of the way."
The two of them easily entered the building as they walked straight past the front desk and towards the elevator.
"They really picked the coolest building to be converted into a governnt building," Xiaoyun murmured as he suddenly felt a little jealous.
"Commander, you could—Ahem, I an Mister, you could use the Guangzhou tower if you want to one-up Shenzhen."
"I’m good. I don’t like driving too far for work every day."
As Lingang pressed the elevator button to the top floors, the two of them soon reached the floor they needed to be on.
Every step of the way, Xiaoyun could feel the level of luxury, from fancy million-dollar paintings to various kinds of office decoration.
The entire floor was a single room, as the area they were in acted as a main lobby. There wasn’t even any office cubicle as they were located on the floor below.
It just felt even more facier than his own office. Still, he wasn’t about to be petty over sothing so small.
"This is the mayor’s office. She should be inside here working."
Lingang murmured as he led Xiaoyun to the only door to the floor, standing by it as he weirdly didn’t knock on it himself.
"Okay then."
With the door knocked, the two waited as a woman’s voice soon appeared.
"Co in."
Opening the door, the first thing they saw was a young woman sitting in a chair, with two office n standing before her desk with papers in hand.
"General Lingang, surprise to see you here... And who’s this person?"
"I’m Lingang’s personal bodyguard," Xiaoyun answered as he deepened his voice a little, hiding his identity even further.
"When did you have a bodyguard?" The young woman asked, looking a little surprised at Lingang.
"That’s none of your business. When are you going to return my soldiers? Don’t tell it’s one or two months."
"Seems like you had t with the Dongguan mayor already then... Do you like to hear the sa answer from ?"
As the young woman innocently looked back at Lingang, Xiaoyun quickly noticed the two office n on the side looking a little nervous.
"Whatever. You’d better get an extension as well... And please don’t co to my office by yourself again."
"Too bad... Ahem, you two can go now."
Both of the office workers quickly left the room, leaving the three of them in the room as they closed the door behind them.
"Lingang, can you have your bodyguard out of the room?" The young woman requested as she slowly sat at her desk.
"He’s staying in the sa room with ."
"Boo, you’re no fun... Ahem, anyway, what else did you co here for? You didn’t just co to see , right?"
Lingang froze for a second as he looked over to Xiaoyun, who only stood still in complete silence, forcing him to co up with sothing on the spot.
"I ca here to check if you had been resettling the refugees properly. I don’t want my soldiers to get tainted military records."
"You don’t have to worry about that. The deputy governor had already sent extra police over to maintain order."
The young woman paused as she stared right at Lingang’s face before speaking up again.
"I wouldn’t dare to taint your records. I put them on traffic patrols and managing police calls instead."
"Thanks."
As Lingang looked over to Xiaoyun again, he continued to remain silent, forcing Lingang to continue the conversation despite wanting to leave already.
"Shenzhen mayor, is there anything else my soldiers can help with? Or else I’m going back to my base."
"I do have sothing that you can help with—"
"Please try to stay professional, Mayor Lu. I don’t want to be forced to file a harassnt letter to the governor."
Lingang’s threat surprised Xiaoyun a little as he couldn’t understand why Lingang seed to be so hostile towards her.
"You want to scare away with that?"
The young woman completely ignores the threat as she gets up from the desk, walking one step after another towards Lingang.
"I’m dead serious. I don’t want to repeat myself."
"Do you think the governor would really believe your report? A tough military general being harassed by a defenseless female mayor."
As Lingang looked over to Xiaoyun for the third ti, a grin appeared on his face as Xiaoyun started to realize why Lingang acting so nervously earlier.
"I can very well report this to the deputy governor... Imagine a military general entering a room drunk and sexually assaulting the mayor of Shenzhen."
"I didn’t even do anything. Why couldn’t you just leave alone? What’s about that’s making you so interested in ?"
"Everything—What are you laughing at?"
The Shenzhen mayor finally noticed Xiaoyun’s grin as he chuckled a little, unable to hold in his laughter.
"Nothing. You two can continue. I’ll leave to make room—"
"Commander Xiaoyun, enough. You have to put a stop to this. I’m tired of having her harass ."
As Lingang exposed the sunglasses man’s identity, the Shenzhen mayor started looking up and down towards the ’bodyguard.’
With the exact haircut, sa height, and the sa way of dressing in suits, she finally realized Lingang wasn’t joking.
"G-Governor Chen?" Mayor Lu nervously asked as the joking face instantly vanished, replaced by nervousness.
"Lingang, do you dislike this woman?" Xiaoyun curiously asked as he finally took off his sunglasses.
"I am already married to two wives. I’m more than happy with them. I don’t need soone else."
"I see... Mayor Lu, I think it would be in the best interest of the governnt for you to leave General Lingang alone."
"Yes, sir."
Mayor Lu slowly nodded her head, her eyes seemingly accepting his demand. Yet Xiaoyun could see right through it.
"Just as a reminder, the governnt contract explicitly stated that high-ranking officials should actively avoid having a relationship with military officers."
The warning seed to have worked as she bowed down all the way before getting back up and heading back to her seat.
"Sorry, General Lingang, I didn’t an to be joking with you that much."
"It’s fine... Just don’t do it again."
"Ahem, I ca here today to check if the resettlent program for the refugees had been conducted properly.
Since you’re in the office right now, do you mind leading the two of us to check it out? Or do you have sothing else to work on?"
"I can lead you there, sir."
Mayor Lu imdiately got up from her seat, walking over to the door as she led them back over to the elevator.
After reaching down to the basent parking lot, she led them to a car as she opened the car door for them to enter first.
"There are currently five resettlent programs in the city, which one do you want to see, sir?" Mayor Lu asked.
"Whatever is the closest," Xiaoyun answered, putting his sunglasses back on as he sat next to Lingang in the back.
