A heavy silence engulfed the entire house.
For Nightbane, who had lived their entire life without committing any cri... the sudden question stumped them.
But before anyone could reply, a clear yet steady voice cut through the heavy silence.
"I will." It was Silas; his sapphire blue eyes stayed trained on Ivy, like the world itself was trivial and only she mattered.
In reality, that was indeed the case.
For Silas, no one mattered more than Ivy.
The coldness surrounding reduced, while another voice joined,
"I will too." It was Victor. Even though he didn’t know why his long-lost daughter wanted to kill, he trusted her enough that she wouldn’t do it for no reason.
"I will too." Helena joined in too. Her eyes were filled with calmness like still water.
She had her own selfish motives for agreeing. It was the guilt and surging love toward Ivy, her long-lost child, for whom she had hardly done anything.
If Ivy asked Helena to even kill herself, she would do it without hesitation.
"I will too."
"I will too!"
Felix and Ember stated simultaneously, not wanting to be left out.
Now, the only one who remained was Kael. He was staring at Ivy with a heavy gaze and asked in his deep, masculine voice,
"What proof do you have that you are really our sibling and not so imposter who got to know about the butterfly-shaped mark and approached us just to have your work done?"
"Kael!" Helena chided with rage in her voice, but Ivy stopped her and looked straight in Kael’s eyes with calmness.
"Because I am your sister. In my previous life, you all had found because of the butterfly-shaped mark above my belly."
"What?" This ti, even Kael was taken aback, while Silas’s guess was confird.
"Previous life... Sister, what are you speaking about?" Felix’s mouth opened wide as belief coursed in his eyes.
Even Ember tilted her head in confusion.
"It ans exactly what you are understanding... I have lived this life before." Ivy smirked, but if soone looked closely, they would see the tears forming in her eyes.
"In my past life, I didn’t even know about your existence till 2 years had passed after the apocalypse. And you all had found when I was 26." Ivy’s eyes were filled with lancholy.
"No... what do you an? I can’t understand anything!" Frustration seeped into Felix’s voice as he stared at Ivy, but at the sa ti, worry was clouding his eyes too.
"In my past life, I was adopted by the Ravencroft family. The head of the Ravencroft family was Magnus, while his wife’s na was Seraphina. They had a daughter nad Isla and a son nad Damian." Ivy ignored Felix’s words and continued at her own pace.
"They abused ... tortured and treated like a slave. Sotis I wanted to escape, but... a voice in my head always told that one day they would change whenever they showed kindness." There was a slight bitterness in her voice as Ivy wiped away the tears forming at the corner of her eyes.
Sotis, the more a person invests, the more they hesitate to pull back.
Various thoughts arise, such as, "He or she will change, or maybe the stock will go up; I just need to hold on."
A common psychology, also known as the sunk cost fallacy.
Ivy let out a trembling breath.
"That’s what it was. I kept believing they’d change, that my pain had to an sothing if I just endured long enough. But all it did was break ."
Her fingers curled tightly into the blanket, her knuckles pale.
"Every ti they smiled at , I convinced myself it was love. Every ti they hurt , I told myself it was my fault. I lost count of how many tis I forgave them... until forgiveness beca another cage."
Silas’s heart twisted as he listened. He had personally seen everything happen with his own eyes.
"Then one day... I saved a little boy nad Silas by accident. From that day on, I didn’t have to endure everything by myself. He was always there with ... and loved . I gained a light in my dark world... until everything ca crashing down again. Isla started to like Silas." The smile on Ivy’s face vanished.
The Nightbane’s only felt their heart tighten, while Helena closed her eyes when she realized that their baby... was tortured.
"She pulled out small tricks that made the torture even more cruel, and I started to maintain distance from Silas out of fear. Yet Silas never gave up on , which only resulted in Isla becoming even crazier. I endured her because I never knew that she wasn’t my real sister."
"Where is this bitch?" Ember was seething with anger. Ember felt a burning hot emotion in her heart that made her want to beat the shit out of that bitch.
"Then the apocalypse arrived. Because of my period, I refused to work and was beaten black and blue. The anger in erupted, and I ran away from ho and found a box, which contained a ring. Thinking it was destiny, I wore it. That night, when I returned ho, the Ravencroft apologized and even treated better for 4 days straight. Then they asked for the ring, and I handed it back to Damian because... I felt it was evil."
"What? No! Ivy, the ring must have been important! Otherwise, they wouldn’t have tried to take it away from you!" Felix covered his head in dismay, thinking that his sister was truly naive!
"After that... I awakened my first superpower. Fire." Ivy interrupted him with a calm expression. "For the next 2 years, I worked for the Ravencrofts, and my fighting skills and my shooting skills’ accuracy reached perfection. By that point... I was thinking of leaving them completely."
"Then?" Ember asked expectantly; her heart was filled with hope... hope that Ivy might have rembered it wrong, and by so miracle, they t her then.
