Sky hesitated, his brows knitting together. Frank noticed imdiately.
"What is it?" he asked.
Sky sighed.
"I wasn’t planning to ntion this, but since both you and your son helped , I’d be failing my duty if I didn’t repay you."
His expression darkened.
"Many people are unhappy about what you did, moving almost all the excess funds from the base to relocate here. They’re planning to take care of you... and not in a good way."
Frank’s eyes narrowed, a sharp glint flashing briefly within them before he masked it.
His shoulders slumped, and his voice grew heavy.
"I know," he said sadly, tears welling up and streaming down his face.
"I made mistakes. I understand that my decisions hurt people."
His voice trembled as he continued,
"But I never took that money for myself. I invested it into ammunition for everyone. Who would have thought the supplies turned out to be fake?"
He clenched his fists.
"I took the fall because I was the one who made the call. Why should others be blad for my risk?"
Sky stood frozen, stunned by the revelation.
"Do you have proof?" he asked cautiously, suspicion clear in his tone.
Frank hesitated before slowly taking out a receipt, his fingers trembling slightly.
"I kept a backup," he said quietly, handing it over. "But I hope you won’t spread this."
As Sky read it, guilt washed over his face.
"I misunderstood you," he admitted softly.
Frank watched him carefully, a calculating thought flashing through his mind.
’Half the battle is already won.’
Reaching into his pocket, he took out a card and handed it to Sky, his expression calm and composed.
The mont Sky saw the card, his pupils shrank violently, his fingers tightening around it as though it might vanish if he loosened his grip.
General Frank straightened his back, his expression firm and unyielding.
"This," he said evenly, his voice carrying an unusual weight, "is all the gold and silver I converted into zombie crystals."
He paused for a brief mont before continuing, his gaze unwavering.
"In total, there are at least one million zombie crystals stored within it. It should be enough to compensate the families."
His lips pressed into a thin line as he added, almost bitterly,
"Other than this, I don’t even have enough money left to afford my next al."
For a heartbeat, Sky was completely speechless, his throat tightening painfully.
Tears welled up uncontrollably, blurring his vision, and he hastily wiped them away with the back of his hand before looking at Frank again.
"I thought you were a con man," he admitted hoarsely.
"But now I know... you’re a kind-hearted person." His voice trembled as conviction filled his eyes.
"I’ll help you clear your na. I swear it."
With that, Sky turned and walked away.
Frank reached out instinctively.
"It’s nothing..." he tried to stop him, but Sky had already left, his cronies following behind, each of them glancing back at Frank with newfound admiration etched clearly across their faces.
Left alone, Frank let out a low chuckle, a slow smirk spreading across his lips.
’To always win,’ he thought calmly, ’one must think of every chess piece on the board.’
Adjusting his coat, he returned to the living room and looked at Jade with a relaxed smile. "It’s done."
Jade’s lips curved upward as well. "It is," he replied, his tone light.
"But there are still a few things left that I need to take care of."
Without waiting, he stood up and headed toward the door.
Franka’s heart skipped.
"Where are you going?" he asked anxiously.
"How can you roam around the enemy’s base so freely? What if you’re attacked?"
Jade glanced back, his expression calm.
"I’m not going to ss around," he assured him. "I just need to confirm sothing."
Soon enough, Jade arrived outside Ivy’s house.
At first glance, it appeared open and unguarded, but as he observed carefully, his eyes narrowed.
’Interesting.’ The place was crawling with hidden protection.
Superhumans lingered in the shadows, their presence subtle yet unmistakable, silently guarding the periter.
He waited patiently, ti stretching thin, until the door finally opened.
Ivy stepped outside.
The mont Jade saw her, his entire body froze.
She was exactly like Layla from his dream.
The resemblance struck him so hard that his breath faltered, excitent surging violently through his veins.
His heart pounded as heat rushed upward, and a tallic taste blood in his mouth as blood trickled from the corner of his lips.
’So it wasn’t just a dream.’
His hands trembled slightly, overwheld by the joy and obsession flooding his senses.
Taking a deep breath, Jade considered approaching her, but then stopped abruptly.
’Not now.’ Ivy wouldn’t see him in a good light yet. Still, the truth remained clear in his heart.
He had never harbored animosity toward her.
He admired her. He loved her. He was obsessed with her.
’I’ll approach her gently.’ With that resolve, he turned back and returned ho.
When Frank saw his son enter safely, relief washed over him instantly.
He grabbed Jade’s hand, but before he could speak, his eyes caught the faint blood at the corner of Jade’s lips.
Panic surged. "What happened?" he demanded. "Why are you bleeding?"
Jade smiled faintly. "It’s nothing."
Then his expression grew serious as he t his father’s gaze.
"Father," he said sincerely, "I want to marry Ivy."
Frank stood frozen for a long while, his mind reeling. "You an Ivy," he confird slowly, "the representative of SiIvy base? The one Silas married?"
His face darkened. "I know you have... sches. But I never thought you’d consider breaking soone’s marriage."
He guided Jade to the sofa and sighed deeply.
"There are things you might not understand. I love you. I want you to live a normal life."
His voice hardened. "But I won’t support this. This is against my moral and legal belief. Sorry."
Jade smiled calmly. "I know you’re a law-abiding citizen," he replied.
