’There’s only one person who can talk sense into her...’
Ivy.
Later, as Ember excitedly rambled about possible nas, her eyes lighting up with fleeting happiness, Jay could only stand there in silence, his thoughts heavy.
After a short discussion, he quietly left.
He stood outside Ivy’s apartnt for a long ti, the corridor dimly lit. His hand hovered near the door, hesitating. Just as he was about to knock...
"Forget it."
The calm voice startled him. Jay turned around abruptly, his eyes widening in surprise as he saw Kael standing there. "You...?"
Kael exhaled slowly, his expression unreadable. "It’s not a good ti," she said. "They’re... occupied."
A faint pause followed before he added, "Very occupied."
Jay blinked, then let out a small, awkward laugh. "Honestly... I didn’t want to interrupt them either."
His smile faded slightly. "But this is important. If I don’t stop Ember... she might do sothing reckless."
Kael frowned. "What do you an?"
Jay gestured toward the dining area. "Co... I’ll explain."
After hearing everything, Kael fell silent, his fingers tapping lightly against the table as he processed his words.
For a long mont, neither of them spoke.
Then he sighed softly. "For now... I think Ember is right."
Jay shot him a sharp look.
Kael raised his hands slightly. "Not because I’m blindly supporting her," he clarified. "But because you both need proper confirmation."
He leaned back slightly, his voice turning more serious. "Consult a doctor. Get everything checked thoroughly before making a final decision."
Jay’s expression darkened slightly, but Kael continued before he could argue.
"I understand you," he said, his tone softer now. "I really do."
He looked at him aningfully. "But sotis... what we think is the safest choice isn’t what our partner wants."
Her gaze lowered briefly. "And sotis... they choose sothing completely different."
Jay froze slightly.
Martha’s situation flashed through his mind.
He fell silent.
Kael exhaled slowly. "If I have to give you one answer... then support her."
He looked at him again. "If sothing goes wrong, you’re not alone. There are people who will help both of you."
Her voice softened. "So don’t carry everything on your shoulders."
Jay’s expression eased slightly, and after a mont, he gave a small nod. "I understand."
When he returned, he agreed to Ember’s decision.
They went for a dical checkup together. Ember’s fingers were tightly intertwined with his, her grip filled with hope.
But when the report ca... everything shattered. Her eyes scanned the paper, her breath hitching.
The words were clear. Her body... wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Not now. Not after everything she had been through. If she continued... it could cause severe, irreversible damage.
Ember froze. Then slowly, her world crumbled.
"No..." she whispered, her voice breaking. "This... this can’t be right."
Her hands trembled as she clutched the report. "It’s just numbers... we can fix this."
She looked at Jay desperately. "We can ask Alana... she can heal more. It’ll be fine."
Jay shook his head gently, his expression pained. That silent refusal...broke sothing inside her.
Without another word, she turned and walked away.
Jay didn’t stop her. ’She just needs ti...’ he told himself, though unease gnawed at him.
But when night fell...and he returned ho... Ember wasn’t there. At first, he thought she might have gone to Helena.
But she wasn’t there either. A cold dread crept into his chest. He searched everywhere.
Every room. Every corridor. Every familiar place. But she was nowhere to be found.
His breathing grew uneven. ’Where did she go...?’
Panic set in. He inford everyone imdiately.
When they heard what had happened, the argunt, the pregnancy, reactions were mixed. So were surprised, even happy for a fleeting mont.
But that happiness quickly faded, replaced by worry. Fear. Without wasting ti, everyone began searching.
Ivy stepped forward, her expression turning serious as she activated her sensing ability.
Monts later...her eyes opened. "I found her."
.................
Ember... was at her best friend’s house. At Pearl’s place.
Over ti, amidst everything that had happened, Ember and Pearl had grown close, closer than anyone had expected.
And now... that was where Ember had gone.
Since Pearl had a child, Ember often found herself visiting more frequently.
At first, Ivy had always assud it was simple, that Ember just loved children.
But now, knowing everything... seeing Ember sitting alone in Pearl’s house... Ivy couldn’t shake the feeling that it ant sothing deeper.
When Ivy and the others arrived, the door opened almost imdiately.
Pearl’s husband, Keith, stood there, his expression calm yet heavy, as if he had already expected their arrival. He gave a small nod, stepping aside without a word.
The mont they entered, the faint scent of baby powder and warm milk lingered in the air, soft and comforting, yet today, it only made everything feel more fragile.
Their eyes landed on Ember.
She sat beside a cradle, gently cradling the baby in her arms, rocking him slowly as she patted his back.
The child’s soft cries filled the room, uneven and fragile, and Ember’s movents were careful, almost reverent, as if she was afraid to hurt him.
For a mont... no one spoke.
The sight stirred sothing complicated within all of them.
When Ember noticed their presence, her hands stilled slightly. Her expression fell quiet, her eyes dimming just a little.
Without saying anything, she stood up and carefully handed the baby to Pearl, who sat on the sofa with worry written all over her face.
"I’ll go now," Ember murmured softly.
Pearl hesitated, then nodded, her gaze flickering between Ember and the others.
As Ember stepped forward, Jay moved to hug her tightly. She didn’t push them away...
But she didn’t return the embrace either. Her arms remained still at her sides, her body stiff, as if she had forgotten how to respond.
That silence... Spoke louder than anything else. No one said a word after that.
When they returned to the grand tower, Ivy’s tower, the towering structure stood like a quiet guardian against the sky.
