The armored vehicle rumbled away from the decaying police station, putting distance between them and the unsettling mory of the intelligent monster. The mood inside was a mixture of exhaustion and contemplative silence, broken only by the hum of the engine.

Beatrix held the recovered core up to the light filtering through the reinforced window. It was larger than any they had seen before, pulsating with a deep, intricate crimson light, and within its depths, faint, shadowy patterns seed to shift and writhe.

"This core is... special," Beatrix finally said, her voice low and analytical. "The energy signature is far more complex and stable. It’s not just raw power, it’s organized, almost like a... neurological imprint."

Emma, ever eager for new gear, leaned forward from the back seat, her eyes sparkling. "Ooh! Does that an we can use it to make sothing aweso? I really need new handgloves that can actually handle my own flas without lting!"

Aya, who had been quietly observing the core from her seat, nodded slowly, a look of intense focus on her face. "I... I can try when we get back. I’ll need to run so tests first to understand its energy conductivity and stress tolerance."

Celestia adjusted her cuffs, her tone as pragmatic as ever. "The probability of successful weaponization is high. Aya was able to forge red sword using a high-grade core, after all. The foundational principles should be similar."

Aya shook her head slightly, a humble frown on her lips. "The red sword was different. I used materials I was already familiar with. It was the enhancent that was new. But this..." She gestured to the core in Beatrix’s hand. "...creating sothing entirely new from a core of this quality? It’s my first ti. The energy matrix is so much more dense and... different."

Julian, his eyes on the road, spoke without turning. "It’s possible." His voice was calm and certain. "Your Blacksmith skill doesn’t just follow blueprints. It guides you, right? It interprets the materials of this broken world and shows you how to shape them. This core is just another material, albeit a highly volatile one."

Beatrix lowered the core, looking thoughtfully between Julian and Aya. She gave a slow, conceding nod. "That... makes a certain amount of sense. In a world where physics have been rewritten by skills and system-altering events, a blacksmith’s intuition, guided by their skill, could very well supersede conventional tallurgy. The core isn’t just a power source, it’s a new type of ore, and Aya’s skill is the slter that can refine it."

A small, determined smile touched Aya’s lips. The weight of the task was imnse, but the confidence from her companions, especially Julian’s blunt faith in her ability, was a powerful motivator.

"Okay," she said, her voice firr now. "I’ll do my best."

The armored vehicle rumbled through the reinforced gates of ltdown, receiving a wave of acknowledgnt from the guards who recognized Julian’s distinctive machine. He navigated the bustling streets with practiced ease, eventually pulling up in front of their team’s designated quarters.

The doors swung open and the group spilled out, the tension of the mission finally beginning to seep from their bodies. Veronica was the first to speak, arching her back in a long, graceful stretch that popped a few vertebrae. A weary sigh escaped her lips.

"Finally. I’m covered in filth and exhaustion. I’m going to get a hot bath and then collapse into my bed for a week."

Emma, in stark contrast, bounced on the balls of her feet, seemingly still buzzing with adrenaline. "Aww, already? C’mon, Veronica! Spar with for a bit! Just a little one! I need to burn off this extra energy!"

Veronica stopped stretching and fixed Emma with a look of pure, unadulterated exasperation. She placed a hand on her hip, her eyebrow arched so high it threatened to disappear into her hairline.

"You have got to be kidding . We just fought our way through a hive of evolved zombies and your first thought is to spar?" She let out a short, disbelieving laugh. "What is wrong with you? Are you so kind of battle maniac? Or are you just a masochist who enjoys being beaten up?"

Emma simply grinned, completely undeterred by the insult. "A little bit of both, probably! It’s more fun that way!"

From the side, Julian stored the vehicle back into his inventory with a flick of his wrist. "Do what you want. Just don’t destroy the courtyard."

Emma’s grin widened as a new, even better idea sparked in her mind. "Wait, Julian! You’re coming too, right? Don’t tell you forgot about our duel!"

Before Julian could even form a response, Veronica smoothly interlocked her arm with his, pulling him close with a possessive and triumphant smirk directed at Emma.

"Absolutely not," Veronica declared, her voice dripping with sweet finality. "Julian has prior engagents. He’s going to be busy washing all this filth off... with . So you can go spar with a training dummy by yourself."

Clarissa, witnessing the exchange, let out a soft, internal sigh. She tactfully averted her gaze and turned to the weary Miss Beatrix. "Miss Beatrix, would you care to join us for so tea first? To decompress."

Beatrix waved a dismissive hand, a look of profound exhaustion mixed with mild amusent on her face. "No, thank you, Clarissa. I’m going ho." She began to walk away, calling over her shoulder, "Just be sure to inform the next ti you all decide to leave the city. Preferably with more than thirty seconds’ notice."

Seeing the situation at the doorway required a firr hand, Celestia stepped in, her cool voice cutting through the potential argunt. "Clarissa. I will handle this. You should head inside first."

Grateful, Clarissa offered a small smile. "Thank you, Celestia." She then gently took Zoe’s hand and, with a glance towards a flustered Aya, ushered them both inside, effectively removing the more passive mbers from the line of fire.
