The hologram of the swirling blue energy still hung in the air, a silent, beautiful threat. The leaders were deep in a heated, circular argunt.

"Your ’adaptive approach’ is theft and chaos!" Dr. Thorne snapped at Seth. "We need a structured, phased penetration of the defense matrix. My engineers can map the field’s frequency, but we’ll need raw muscle to draw fire from the autonomous sentries it generates."

"You’ll use my people as cannon fodder for your mapping?!" Magnus bood, his face red. "Not a chance. Ironblood leads the assault. Your techies can follow behind and ’study’ the corpses of the constructs after we smash them."

Seth shook his head, a cynical smile on his face. "You’re both thinking like you’re storming a castle. It’s not a castle. It’s a living thing. You don’t beat it, you trick it, you slip past it. My scouts have watched its patrol patterns. There are pulses, lulls. We go in during the lulls."

"And leave the prize undefended for the next ’lull’ when you decide to keep it for yourself?" Thorne retorted.

"A tripartite oversight council," the Arbiter stated, trying to force structure onto the chaos. "Each faction contributes equally to a joint security periter around the site once access is gained. Extraction and research quotas to be determined by—"

The Arbiter’s head tilted slightly, as if listening to a silent communication. A mont later, one of the silver-clad enforcers at the periter stepped forward and spoke, his voice filtered. "There are arrivals. They claim a right of audience under the charter of safe passage for all power groups in the region."

This caused an imdiate uproar.

"Arrivals? What arrivals?" Magnus snarled, hand going to his weapon.

"This is a private summit!"Dr. Thorne insisted. "Any additional parties dilute the share of the Resource! This is unacceptable!"

Seth just looked wary, his eyes darting to the plaza’s entrances.

"The charter is clear. All significant powers may bear witness, to ensure transparency," the Arbiter replied, its tone leaving no room for appeal. "Allow them entry."

Before the faction leaders could protest further, two figures walked into the center of the plaza. Julian moved with a calm, deliberate stride, his expression was calm, Void’s Edge sheathed conspicuously on his back. Veronica walked beside him, her posture elegantly arrogant, a faint, mocking smile on her lips as she surveyed the gathered leaders and their entourages.

The reaction was instant and hostile.

"Who the hell are you?!" Magnus demanded, stepping forward, his bulk blocking their path.

"More scavengers looking to pick at the bones?"Seth asked, though his eyes were calculating, assessing their gear.

Dr.Thorne, however, had gone very still. Her high-tech goggles whirred softly, scanning Julian. Data streams flickered across her lenses. Her severe face, usually a mask of cold control, shifted to one of recognition, then to sharp, academic triumph.

She didn’t address Julian directly. Instead, she turned her gaze to the Arbiter and the other leaders, her voice cutting through the noise like a scalpel.

"This... changes the calculus considerably," she announced, a cold smile touching her lips. "This man is not just another warlord or scavenger. My databases have just confird his identity. He is a priority asset—no, a priority target of the now-defunct New Order regi. Codenad ’Peregrine’. His list of cris against their authority is extensive. He is the one who shattered their citadel and destabilized the entire eastern sector."

She looked directly at Julian, her gaze icy. "Isn’t that right, Julian? The New Order placed a continent-wide bounty on your head. And you walk in here as if you have a right to stand among us."

A stunned silence fell over the plaza, broken only by the hum of the Arbiter’s mask. All eyes filled with shock, newfound fear, greed, and intense curiosity were now locked on the calm, unmoving figure of Julian.

Julian didn’t flinch under the weight of their stares. A faint, almost imperceptible smirk touched his lips. "I wasn’t aware my reputation had such... reach."

Veronica chuckled beside him, her voice dripping with theatrical pride. "Well, we did make quite the ss. It’s only natural the news would travel."

A low murmur rippled through the lieutenants. The Ironblood second-in-command, Ken, muttered to Magnus, "So this is the one who broke the New Order’s back? I didn’t picture soone so... contained."

A grizzled lieutenant from the Free Folk scoffed, his voice loud in the quiet. "Hah! This scrawny guy? He took down the Order? You expect us to believe that?"

Magnus’s eyes, however, glead with a new, predatory light. He pointed a thick finger at Julian. "You! The ’Ghost’ that’s been picking off my n! It’s you, isn’t it? This is how you operate! Skulking in, causing chaos!"

Julian turned his calm gaze to the Ironblood leader. "I have no interest in your soldiers, nor your petty territorial squabbles. If sothing is hunting your n, it is a concern of your own making. My business lies elsewhere."

Dr. Thorne seized on this. "Business? What ’business’ could possibly bring a wanted destabilizer to a summit about a localized resource? Unless your business is the resource."

Seth, the Free Folk leader, crossed his arms, his expression shrewd. "He says he’s not interested in the shiny blue ball. Okay. Then why are you here, ’Peregrine’? To sightsee?"

"I am searching for information," Julian stated, his voice cutting through the speculation. "On a specific biological threat. Amorphous entities, spheres of corrupting flesh. They possess advanced psychic and unknown capabilities."

A beat of silence followed. Then, a Tech-Savant aide whispered sothing to Thorne, who frowned. Several Free Folk scouts exchanged glances. Even so of the Ironblood grunts shifted uncomfortably.

"We’ve... seen things," Seth admitted cautiously. "In the deep blight zones, far from here. Globs of at that move on their own, twist the land around them. Nasty business. But that’s a world away from our concerns here."

"Exactly!" Magnus bood, redirecting his anger. "A distraction! He’s spinning tales of monsters to cover his real aim! He wants the Resource! He destroyed one power, now he wants to steal the key to becoming the next one!"

Julian’s patience seed to wear thin, though his expression changed little. "I have stated my disinterest. The Resource is yours to squabble over. If you have no pertinent information on the entities I described, then this conversation is irrelevant to ."

As he made to turn, Dr. Thorne’s voice, cold and precise, stopped him. "Irrelevant? Hardly. You may not want our Resource, Julian, but you are now a resource yourself. The data in my possession—your identity, your capabilities, the confird dissolution of the New Order at your hands is incredibly valuable. There are still... remnants of the Order, scattered but wealthy. Or other factions who would pay a fortune for the man who can break citadels. Your presence here isn’t an intrusion, it’s a windfall."

The threat hung in the air, clear and rcenary. They might not fight him for the blue energy sphere, but they would happily sell him out for a profit.

Julian paused, looking back at the assembly not with fear, but with a chilling reevaluation.
