Fey staggered out from behind the pillar, coughing slightly from the steam but her eyes blazing with defiance. "Getting a little cocky there, aren't you? Survived a little zap and now you think you're the star of the show?"

"He was lucky," Julian stated flatly, his gaze never leaving the Ghost. "Luck runs out."

They attacked again, this ti in a more coordinated, brutal symphony. Julian sent multiple Shadow tendrils lancing from the darkness of the room's corners not to strike directly, but to harry, to bind, to limit movent.

The Ghost beca a whirlwind of liquid tal, its limbs morphing into blades and shields to slice through the dark constructs or deflect them with sharp, ringing clangs. It counterattacked with blinding speed, a needle-thin spike shooting from its palm towards Julian's eye.

Julian jerked his head aside, feeling the wind of its passage, and parried a follow-up slash from a solidified blade-arm with a hardened shadow-claw of his own.

Then Julian activated Boost and Lightning. Speed and power surged through his veins. He beca a blur. He ducked under a sweeping liquid-tal whip, closed the distance in an eyeblink, and delivered a devastating, augnted punch to the Ghost's torso, not with his fist, but with a concussive wave of kinetic force amplified by gravity. The impact made a sound like a crashing bell.

The Ghost was lifted off its feet and slamd backwards into the reinforced concrete wall of the loading bay. A web of cracks erupted from the point of impact, and the figure crumpled into a heap of debris and dust.

Before the dust could settle, Fey was already acting. With a grunt of effort, she didn't pull moisture from the air—she used the specialized liquid coolant canisters on her own belt, the ones she used for her engineering work.

She unleashed a stream of vivid blue, viscous liquid that snaked across the floor and up the pile of rubble, wrapping around the Ghost's limbs and torso with swift precision. Before the adaptive tal could react, she clenched her fist.

"Freeze."

The coolant wasn't just conductive; it was designed for rapid thermal transfer. In an instant, it solidified from liquid to a super-hard, brittle cryogenic prison, trapping the Ghost in a cocoon of spiked, blue ice, pinning its arms and locking its joints.

Julian was already there, leaping onto the rubble. Lightning crackled and arced around his right hand, coalescing into a sphere of raw, furious energy that lit up the entire bay with a blinding white-blue light. The air slled of ozone and ionized tal.

"This is the end," Julian declared, his voice cold and final. "Pick an easier target in your next life."

He drove his lightning-charged hand down towards the trapped Ghost's chest.

KRAKOOM!

A blinding, deafening bolt of pure lightning, channeled directly from Julian's hand, struck the frozen, tallic target. The cryogenic prison exploded into superheated steam and shards of ice. Electricity ravaged the figure within, dancing over its form with violent, incandescent fury. The Ghost's body convulsed violently within the storm.

For a second, Julian thought it was over.

Then, a pulse—not electromagnetic, but a deep, distorted wave of psionic-null energy erupted from the epicenter of the lightning strike. It was invisible but horribly tangible, a crushing wave of static that scread against the mind and disrupted all energetic patterns.

Julian's eyes widened. "Fey, down!" He threw himself backwards, not towards safety, but towards Fey, throwing a Gravity Shield and a hasty Shadow Barrier around them both just as the wave hit.

The shield buckled and hissed, absorbing the brunt of the psionic backlash. But the lightning in the air, the residual energy from Julian's attack, went berserk. Instead of dissipating, it coiled and arced wildly, striking random surfaces, earthing itself chaotically, completely out of Julian's control.

From the dissolving steam and fading electrical storm, the Ghost rose. Its liquid tal suit was scorched and pitted in places, its glass mask webbed with a single crack. It rose not with haste, but with a dreadful, deliberate slowness, pieces of frozen coolant still clattering from its form. It took a single, steadying step forward.

Its toneless voice, now carrying a faint, synthetic grating edge, broke the sizzling silence.

"I have already chosen my target," it stated. The crack in its mask seed to fix on Julian with a new, chilling intensity. "My selection protocol does not error. The probability of my failure… was never a variable you were capable of introducing."

The Ghost didn't hesitate. Empowered by the stolen lightning energy that still crackled and danced across its pitted chassis, it moved. Its speed was now terrifyingly augnted, a blur of scorched black tal that matched Julian's Boost-enhanced movents.

It closed the distance in a flash, not with a blade this ti, but with a crackling fist aid at Julian's sternum. Julian barely twisted aside, the charged air scorching his jacket.

"You can absorb and repurpose energy," Julian stated, more to himself than to the Ghost, as he parried a follow-up kick with a shadow-shield that sizzled under the electrical feedback. "A significant upgrade from just avoiding it."

The Ghost's cracked mask seed to almost gleam. It didn't reply verbally. Instead, it processed, adapted. Its glowing eyes flicked past Julian, locking onto Fey, who was already attempting to flank, her hands manipulating another stream of liquid from a broken pipe.

"Secondary support unit. High disruptive potential. Priority: eliminate."

With a surge of its stolen speed, the Ghost disengaged from Julian in a feint and phased, its form blurring as it bypassed Julian's guard, aiming straight for Fey.

"Fey!" Julian roared. He didn't chase. He used Boost and the last of the ambient Lightning in the air to launch himself laterally, intercepting the Ghost's path not with a block, but with a devastating shoulder-tackle empowered by Gravity, slamming into its side mid-lunge.

The impact was solid, throwing the Ghost's charge off course. It skidded across the concrete, sparks flying from its feet.

"Your fight," Julian growled, placing himself squarely between the Ghost and Fey, "is with ."
