In the midst of the explosion, Kaito Shirogane lightly flipped backward. His movents were efficient, transitioning between stillness and motion with a fluid ease that was almost jarring to watch. Even for soone as fast as Queen Maeve, it created the illusion that this Asian man was sohow faster and more agile than her. In truth, in terms of pure speed, Maeve was slightly superior.
"Stop hiding. Co on out, Kalpa."
Kaito's perception of breathing was incredibly acute. He knew that his opponent was completely unhard by the explosion.
The next second, Kalpa walked out of the flas, smiling. He was now completely naked, revealing a bizarre form. His head was his own, but his body was that of a shapely woman. The body was extrely durable; the explosion had done nothing to it, leaving only a few shallow cuts on his face.
A man's head on a woman's body. The sight was so twisted that even Kaito couldn't help but marvel at it. "I didn't expect you to have a bit of an artistic streak," he said, his praise genuine. He had never even considered such a design for his own avatar. If he had, the shock value alone when his clothes were destroyed in battle would surely create an opening.
Kalpa spread his arms and even patted his new body, clearly very proud of it. "Haha! I knew you'd understand, rcenary Tao! A Reincarnator should transcend all limits! Ethics, common sense, the self… these are all irrelevant things."
Suddenly, he frowned. He turned and saw Hughie, also completely naked, appearing behind him. The young man had used his teleportation ability from Compound V, which, unfortunately, did not transport clothing.
Hughie was still crouched low. He stared at the two anomalies, Kalpa and Kaito, his heart pounding. He was terrified, but he forced himself to stay.
"Tell ," he demanded, his voice shaking, "where did you hide the real Annie?!" His gaze shifted from hatred to a desperate plea. This weakness made Kalpa's lips curl into a grin.
He first exchanged a look of weary exasperation with Kaito, then turned and shattered Hughie's last glimr of hope. "Didn't I tell you? Annie is right here. I am Annie. Annie is … Her body has been occupied by . That woman… no longer exists. Hahaha!"
As Kalpa laughed, Hughie's pupils trembled violently. With a roar of pure rage, he charged, reaching out as if to use his teleportation ability on him. But Kalpa simply took one step and dodged. He ford a hand seal, and the golden chakra on his forehead began to glow. A wave of light pulsed outwards, and Hughie clutched his head in agony, unable to even activate his power.
Kaito's eyelids lowered. A person without power… even their anger is just a joke.
He leaned forward slightly, his center of gravity perfectly stable. It was the subconscious movent of a martial artist, a way of constantly training and adjusting his body. Kaito had no interest in watching this soap opera any longer.
"Kalpa," he said, his voice cutting through the scene. "Bring out your trump card. If this is all you have… heh, then you can get ready to beg for a contract."
In the distance, the man of fire, Golden Boy, fell from the sky. In mid-air, he was struck by another blast of heat vision, and his flaming body was torn in two, crashing into the streets on either side like a pair of teors.
Queen Maeve looked back, her eyes still wide with shock. She knew Golden Boy's power. While he was objectively not as strong as Holander, he wasn't far behind the other mbers of The Seven. In fact, in terms of pure destructive power, he was stronger than her or A-Train. And a Supe like that… had been shot down by Holander in a matter of seconds.
Amidst the fearful gazes of Maeve and the others, Holander spread his arms and descended from the clouds. His voice, amplified by his power, seed to echo across all of New York.
"This city, this country, this world has been stolen by cowards!"
"We need a war of blood and fire to set things right!"
His speech was an open declaration of rebellion. But at this mont, the tens of thousands of people in the chaotic crowd, who had just found their savior, didn't care. All they knew was that the police and the military had been attacking them, and Holander was their hero.
"KILL THEM, HOLANDER!" Bobby scread, his eyes red. He was trembling with a mixture of fear and hatred, a primal roar erupting from him. He was not alone. The sa sound, from all over the crowd, coalesced into a massive wave.
In that mont, Holander felt as if he had truly found himself. He was certain that everything Mr. Tao had said was true. This world belonged to the strong. It belonged to him.
BZZZZZT!
An incredibly intense beam of heat-vision, so powerful it seed to make the air around his eyes smoke, shot out. The crimson laser, as thick as a man's wrist, descended from the sky. It swept through the military line. In an instant, an entire row of soldiers was cut in half. The stench of blood filled the air. This sight completely shattered everyone's psychological defenses. The gap between Holander and an ordinary person was, in that mont, made brutally clear.
A soldier in an armored car, enraged, aid his machine gun and opened fire. But Holander didn't even flinch. He just turned his head, and his heat vision sliced the soldier and the armored car in two.
"I am the strongest! I will protect this city! I will protect this country! I am the one… the only… SUPERHERO!"
"Perhaps," he roared, "you should call SUPERMAN!"
Massive explosions began to erupt wherever he looked.
Kalpa, watching Holander's rampage, was not afraid. He just shrugged and said to Kaito, "You really have turned that guy into a complete lunatic. But that's fine. With this, the Singularity rating will definitely be higher than B-rank…"
He shook out the joints of Starlight's body, and with a flash of golden light, his form began to change. His height and muscles shifted. In an instant, his body had beco nearly identical to Kaito's own powerful physique.
He crouched slightly and beckoned to Kaito. "Co on, rcenary Tao. Isn't this the kind of ability you're best at?"
"Let show you the true power of a Chosen One…"
BOOM!
Kalpa lifted his left foot high and then stomped. His figure instantly vanished. The air let out only a low hum, but an imnse force was already behind Kaito. Kaito's center of gravity flowed, and he threw himself forward, using the force of the blow to roll across the ground.
Kalpa just laughed strangely. His body twisted at the sa ti, and he lightly leaped, flipping through the air, almost perfectly matching Kaito's own movent. He then unfolded his body in mid-air, pulled his right fist back, and as the chakra-light flared, he punched, unleashing a blast of golden energy.
BOOM!
Kaito slamd his hand into the ground. The force of his own blow was so great that the pavent shattered, and he used the recoil to launch himself straight up into the air, not only canceling his forward montum but also scraping past the golden shockwave to get close to Kalpa. His healed left hand twisted, and he thrust his palm forward.
Kalpa wore a strange smile. In mid-air, he clapped his hands together.
THUMP!
A powerful shockwave, mixed with a bizarre psychic assault, erupted. Kaito frowned, feeling a sharp, needle-like pain in his head. His Rakshasa's Palm missed Kalpa's chest, hitting empty air.
Kalpa, at this mont, took a deep breath. The chakra on his forehead began to glow brightly, as if a third eye had opened. His body continued to change, his muscles bulging and knotting together.
Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump-thump…
A strange heartbeat echoed. Kaito's eyes turned white. Kalpa's movents and the changes in his body were now in slow motion. In his [Transparent World], Kaito could clearly see it: Kalpa was rearranging his own muscles, bones, and even his internal organs. He was changing the very configuration of his body, altering his own attributes on the fly.
Just monts ago, he had a streamlined, agile form. Now he had beco a pure power-type. Is this his true, special ability?
