Bessie saw Delphine and Ignatius standing by the green window drapes, speaking in low voices, a flicker of envy and hatred flashing through her eyes.

"Delphine, Jocelyn and I are about to get engaged. Aren’t you happy for ?" Bessie stood up, walked over, her smile as radiant as a blooming flower.

Delphine instinctively took a step back in fear. The childhood shadows of being bullied still lingered, and she had always disliked being too close to this fourth Miss of the Leclair Family.

Ignatius narrowed his eyes, shooting Bessie a warning glance.

Bessie sneered coldly, ignoring him, and instead reached out to loop her arm affectionately through Delphine’s. "Delphine, I’ve always thought of you as my little sister. At my engagent banquet, could you be my bridesmaid?" Her tone was warm and intimate.

Delphine froze for a mont, almost wanting to laugh. Knowing the spoiled Miss Bessie might throw a tantrum that could upend the heavens, she replied politely yet distantly, "Congratulations to you both. I’m afraid I don’t have the fortune to be your bridesmaid."

Jocelyn, hearing her tactful refusal, a faint trace of pain flitted through his eyes. Even with the Yeager Family’s power and status, despite having long assud authority over the family from the old master, he couldn’t suppress the imposing presence of Ignatius Leclair, nor could he win her over.

If he couldn’t have her, he couldn’t afford to continue harboring such futile hopes. Unless he beca even stronger than Ignatius, right now, apart from Griffith Squire—the predatory wolf from the southern region—the only ones who could contend with Ignatius were the Leclair Family insiders themselves.

The man’s gaze grew increasingly sharp.

Bessie didn’t genuinely intend to invite her. Seeing Delphine had tactfully declined, she feigned disappointnt and said resentfully, "It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have suggested for you to attend such a crowded occasion. You must still be haunted by what happened back then. If you don’t want to co, I completely understand."

Apart from the old master of the Yeager Family, their second master and his wife were also present. As for the Yeager Family’s matron, due to Leo’s scandal, she had been stripped of her authority and didn’t even attend this important matchmaking event.

The second lady of the Yeager Family, a woman with a penchant for gossip, perked up her ears at this and smiled, her eyes gleaming. "Bessie, what incident from back then?"

"Auntie, you were there too! It was during my eldest uncle’s fiftieth birthday. Delphine, young and naïve at the ti, was deceived by a man, losing both her heart and... her dignity."

"Ah, that man was truly despicable. Just left without a trace after having his way. Poor Delphine has carried the psychological scars ever since. She’s been too afraid to attend public gatherings, constantly feeling so ashad at ho that she can’t even lift her head. Thinking about it makes my heart ache for her."

Bessie spoke quickly, her words round and sweet as beads of a necklace, her tone as innocent and cheerful as ever, while skillfully dredging up the old scandal and repainting herself as a caring sister.

The old master of the Yeager Family turned visibly grim, while the second master and his wife exchanged disdainful glances. So this was the girl with such an unsavory past.

Delphine showed no expression. Over the years, she had endured countless disdainful looks and mockery. If not for her resolute spirit, she wouldn’t have survived to this day.

If Bessie’s only strategy was verbal humiliation, her thods were far too amateurish to even be worth taking seriously.

Ignatius poured the freshly brewed coffee into a cup, lowering his gaze as he listened to Bessie’s veiled insults, the corners of his mouth curling into a cold smirk. This little fourth sibling of his had really grown bold—so inexperienced, yet already daring to provoke him.

Before the man could erupt, the butler entered the side hall, approached, and said, "Mr. Leclair, there’s a Miss Squire waiting outside, claiming to be Miss Delphine’s friend."

Stone’s face darkened, just about to explode with rage, when the old butler continued, "This Miss Squire says if she’s not allowed in, she’ll blow up Leclair Manor."
