Now reading: Chapter 391 When will Major General Xie come over? from the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart, a Romance novel by Smoky and desolate.

Delphine had been uneasy ever since changing into her gown. Leah’s phone remained unreachable, and Mrs. Gu was nowhere to be found. Both of them were social butterflies, and it made no sense for them to miss an event as grand as Bessie Leclair’s wedding.

Instinctively, her gaze searched for Ignatius Leclair. The man’s expression was as cold and resolute as ever, his strikingly handso face devoid of any trace of a smile, as he walked straight toward Stone Leclair, who had just arrived at the venue.

Stone Leclair, known for his approachable public persona in South Asia, was imdiately sward by people upon his entrance. The wedding scene swiftly transford into the atmosphere of a leadership inspection. Internally scoffing, Delphine glanced over to see Bessie leading the Leclair family patriarch into the banquet hall. The countdown music for the wedding ceremony began playing, finally pulling everyone’s attention back to the event at hand.

Outside the windows, fireworks exploded into the sky, illuminating the grandeur of the venue. Inside, the expansive banquet hall was awash with ribbons and flowers fluttering in celebration as the ceremony officially comnced.

The newlyweds erged slowly, completing the highly-anticipated vows in front of South Asia’s most prominent elites.

The scene grew excessively jubilant and noisy, prompting Delphine to step away to a quieter corner. She dialed Griffith Squire’s number once again, but before the call connected, a young man who looked like an attendant approached her. In a hushed tone, he said, "Mr. Squire and Miss Leah won’t be able to make it to the wedding tonight. All is well; don’t worry."

With that said, the attendant hurriedly carried his tray of wine away.

Delphine’s face showed a subtle change. Only now did she realize that Richard Shaw had not made an appearance either.

Anyone else’s absence wouldn’t have caused her much concern. But Richard Shaw was Ignatius Leclair’s closest companion, bound by life-and-death loyalty. Birds of a feather flock together, as the saying goes—Ignatius Leclair was always shrewd and calculating, and the Major General Richard Shaw from the Shaw Family certainly wouldn’t be a simple man either.

Delphine took a deep breath, clenched her fists tightly, and without a word, headed off to find Ignatius Leclair.

Though Ignatius was technically of the younger generation, his status and position were unparalleled at the event. As both the heir to the Leclair Family in South Asia and the grandson of the Howard Family in Imperial City, he naturally sat at the head table in the banquet hall.

Delphine crossed the red carpet and approached the head table, instantly drawing subtle yet pervasive attention from the entire room.

The atmosphere at the head table wasn’t particularly pleasant. The two families had been quarreling for an hour before the al, making it improbable for them to sit peacefully together. Ignatius remained expressionless and silent. As soon as he lifted his gaze and saw Delphine approaching, his eyes darkened, and his tall, refined fra rose to its feet. In a low voice, he asked, "What’s wrong?"

His tone was gentler than usual, prompting everyone at the head table to glance over.

"When is Major General Shaw arriving?" Delphine lowered her eyes and asked softly. Her fair, delicate face glead like a pearl under the light.

The crowd perked up their ears in surprise. Richard Shaw? Hadn’t he retired long ago, and remained out of sight in Imperial City? For a mont, the way everyone looked at Delphine carried hints of intrigue and contemplation.

Ignatius’s thin lips pressed into a slight line. She mattered to him, yet her concern was solely focused on the Squire siblings. His phoenix-like eyes—deep and dark as ink—held their mysteries. After a long pause, he replied in a low voice, "Old Shaw has trouble getting around these days and might be delayed. But he’s reliable; don’t worry."

The last sentence seed both a reassurance and a promise. Griffith Squire, cunning and elusive like a fox, might seem invincible, yet even he couldn’t completely fathom Richard Shaw’s depths. Ignatius, however, understood the Shaw Family from Imperial City better than Griffith ever could. The real concerns should be about Richard. Nonetheless, this ti Richard’s actions were completely unexpected. Adding to the mystery was the fact that he didn’t know the full extent of the Squire siblings’ identities—there’d be no leniency in his moves. This was shaping up to be unpredictable.

Ignatius’s lips curled into a cold, sharp smile devoid of warmth. He motioned to Maximilian to arrange a seat for Delphine, all while facing the icy glares of the powerful figures around the table. Placing his hand firmly on her slender shoulder, he guided her to sit beside him before making a call to Richard Shaw.
