Now reading: Chapter 596: Ignatius Leclair is seriously ill and can’t eve from the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart, a Romance novel by Smoky and desolate.

When Delphine arrived at the villa, she saw the front door slightly ajar. It was eerily quiet—no sound of Benjamin’s crying. Her panic grew instantly.

"Benjamin?" Delphine called softly, then followed the staircase up to the second floor.

"Mommy." Benjamin’s black, shining eyes lit up the mont she heard Delphine’s voice. The little girl hugged her plush bunny tightly and dashed out of her room, calling out in her crisp voice, "Benjamin is here!"

Seeing that she wasn’t crying or seed frightened, Delphine finally exhaled in relief. She rushed forward, looking at the little girl dressed in her pink nightgown snuggling her bunny plushie. She kissed Benjamin’s chubby cheek and murmured softly, "Benjamin, you scared Mommy."

Benjamin pouted and muttered, "It’s Daddy’s fault."

The little girl reached out to hug Delphine, planting a comforting kiss on her cheek. In her gentle, sweet voice, she said, "Benjamin won’t cry next ti, no matter how scared I am. I promise."

Delphine felt a pang in her heart at how obedient the child was.

Benjamin’s dark, round eyes darted around before she reached out to grab Delphine’s hand, urging her hurriedly, "Mommy, look at Daddy! He’s sick, and he’s being an and scary."

When Delphine heard that Ignatius Leclair had scared and been harsh to Benjamin while sick, her teeth clenched in frustration. So he wasn’t the one to give birth to her, and he didn’t feel even a shred of sympathy, huh?

She had originally resolved to stay as far away from that man as possible, but at the mont, she couldn’t care less and followed Benjamin into the bedroom.

The bedroom door was ajar, letting in a draft of cold wind that added a chill to the air.

Ignatius Leclair was dressed in casual ho clothes, his face paler than usual. He leaned weakly against the sofa. When he saw Benjamin bringing Delphine in, a faint flicker of deep light passed through his dark eyes, but his words carried a cold indifference: "Benjamin, go back to bed."

The little girl instantly pouted, still upset about not being allowed her lollipop earlier, and hid behind Delphine in grievance.

Delphine imdiately grabbed the little girl’s hand, her gaze turning toward the man sitting on the sofa with a cold expression. She suppressed her anger and said, "Mr. Leclair, does being harsh to a child prove your superiority—or does it just satisfy your arrogance?"

The man’s gaze deepened. He looked at the little girl hiding behind Delphine, her big, watery eyes filled with fake grievance while she secretly tugged at the bunny’s tail in amusent. He sighed deeply. A child raised by himself—he had no choice but to swallow this bitter pill.

Feigning weakness, Ignatius propped himself up wearily. His pale, handso face bore a rare sickness, and he rasped, "I was afraid I’d spread germs to Benjamin."

Delphine eyed him suspiciously. Seeing him looking so ill and stripped of his usual aloof coldness, she was half-convinced. She replied, "I’ve already called Maximilian. If things are inconvenient for you here, I’ll just take Benjamin to stay with for the night."

The man’s expression sank, revealing a faint trace of gloom. He coldly replied with a single word, then turned his back to them, his silhouette exuding an indescribable sense of desolation.

Delphine held Benjamin’s hand, hesitating for a mont. Rembering how awful Ignatius had been in the past, she steeled herself and carried Benjamin, getting ready to leave for the cottage villa. Just when she stepped through the doorway, the sound of glass shattering echoed.

Benjamin, who had been tugging at the bunny’s tail in delight, flinched at the noise. She quickly shoved the bunny into Delphine’s arms and grabbed her neck, her voice soft as cotton candy, "Daddy is so pitiful, Mommy."

Delphine turned back and saw the man sitting on the sofa, defeated, with water stains and shards of glass scattered across the floor. She furrowed her brows and gently set Benjamin down, quietly saying, "Benjamin, stay right here and don’t move. Mommy’s going to check on him."

Benjamin nodded obediently, standing still without moving a step.
