Delphine froze for a mont and then, seeing Ignatius Leclair’s serious expression, realized he was asking her opinion?

The man looked at her small, pale face, slightly whitened by the cold wind, wanting to reach out and pull her into his embrace, to warm her hands. But fearing he might startle her, he softly said, "If you don’t want to go to Erald Hill Villas, we can go to the villa in Northern Town instead. That’s my mother’s old ho—I lived there for a long ti when I was a child."

"Let’s stay here," Delphine said. She didn’t want the hassle of moving around, and going to stay with him felt like so sort of cozy family vacation for the four of them.

"Alright," Ignatius nodded lightly, his deep phoenix eyes shimring. "You decide."

Delphine froze again, almost suspecting he might be Magnus Leclair instead. Over the years, Ignatius had stood high above everyone—aloof and domineering. When had he ever sought soone’s opinion? When had he ever asked about her preferences?

"You’ll listen to everything I say?" she ventured cautiously.

"Except for getting a divorce. Except for not having a marital life." His voice was low and seductive, his gaze growing ever darker.

Delphine pressed her thin lips tightly together and said nothing.

"Daddy, Mommy, the fierce great-grandpa is back!" Benjamin Leclair, with his little legs, quickly sprinted to the garden gate, shouting sweetly in his charming voice.

The Leclair family’s old patriarch stepped in, nearly losing his breath. Fierce? Was he really fierce? He was clearly very kind-hearted! That little rascal—every ti he eagerly accepted the lollipops he gave out, yet still called him "fierce great-grandpa"!

Entering the side hall, the old man’s eyes landed on the cherubic little boy playing with building blocks on the carpet. He froze. Taking a closer look, it was none other than the spitting image of young Ignatius Leclair. His wrinkled face broke into a smile, and he quickly tossed aside his sandalwood walking stick, reaching out to lift the little boy. Laughing warmly and gently, he asked, "Child, what’s your na? Who did you co here with?"

"Hello, great-grandpa. I’m Nicholas." Nicholas Carter quickly assembled the blocks Benjamin had wanted and politely greeted the elder.

The old patriarch felt an imnse sense of satisfaction in every fiber of his being. He called him great-grandpa! What a good boy—so cute! So well-behaved! A hundred tis better than Benjamin.

Benjamin ran over, his little legs thumping against the floor, climbing up the old man’s leg in one swift motion. Grabbing onto the patriarch’s carefully nurtured beard, he brightly declared, "Great-grandpa, I’ve been waiting! Benjamin’s little tummy is starving flat!"

"Good Benjamin, no pulling the beard—it must not be pulled!" The old patriarch’s face turned pale in fright as he saw his treasured beard in peril. He quickly put Nicholas down and rescued his beard.

Benjamin hugged his small, flat belly and burst into laughter. Beside him, Nicholas laughed too. Even the old patriarch, red in the face, joined them with hearty laughter.

Seeing the cheerful scene in the side hall—two little bundles of joy and a sprightly old man laughing together—Ignatius Leclair’s gaze softened, and a strange warmth blossod in his chest. It was a feeling he had not experienced since his father’s calculated sches, his mother taking him across oceans, living as an outsider in foreign lands, and enduring the ruthless battles of fa and fortune.

All of this was brought to him by the quiet, unassuming woman beside him, with a temperant as calm and understated as flowing water.

The man tilted his handso, somber face slightly, his phoenix eyes soulful with a faint hint of affection, as he gazed at Delphine beside him.

The Leclair family’s old patriarch seed utterly enchanted by Nicholas Carter, treating him like a treasure for the entire evening. He revolved around Nicholas the whole ti, barely sparing Delphine a nod when he saw her. His deanor was worlds apart from the indifference he had displayed three years ago.
