The Feroz Shah Kotla was no longer just a cricket ground.
It was the epicenter of a cultural phenonon.
As the sun began to set over Delhi, the gates groaned under the weight of a crowd that had arrived five hours early.
This was the Grand Final of the 2013 CLT20, but the atmosphere felt entirely different from any match before it.
___
The visual in the stands was staggering.
For twenty years, Indian stadiums had been a sea of "Tendulkar 10" jerseys.
But tonight, a new silhouette dominated the concrete steps.
Everywhere you looked, teenagers were draped in MI blue with "RUDRA 18" printed across the back.
(A/N: His jersey number will change after his India's debut in whiteball.)
In so sections of the Kotla, the number 18s outnumbered the number 10s.
The crowd was noticeably younger, more vibrant and loud.
Groups of college students held posters that read:
"Sachin taught us how to love cricket, Rocky taught us how to dominate it."
On the giant screen, a live fan poll asked:
"Who is the most impactful player of the tournant?"
A. Rocky Rudra: 84%
B. Ajinkya Rahane: 9%
C. Pravin Tambe: 7%
___
The Pre-Match Analysis:
Nasser Hussain was looking at the stands through binoculars, spoke with a little excitent, "My God... Sourav, look at that. I'm looking at the East Stand, and I can barely see a Tendulkar shirt. It's all 'Rudra.' I've never seen a legacy being challenged in real-ti like this. It's almost eerie."
Sourav Ganguly: "It's a 'My God' statent, Nasser. We knew the kid was popular, but this is a takeover. The fans have seen him dismantle CSK and Perth, and they've decided this is his era. Sachin is still the God, but Rocky is the King they want to follow today."
Matthew Hayden: "The stats back the fans up. Rember the opening ga against Rajasthan? Rocky cented his status there. He committed a robbery against them. Smashing 135 off 58 balls on a pitch where everyone else struggled. He targeted Shane Watson, he took Vikramjeet Malik for 28 in an over. He's the reason RR is terrified of this matchup."
___
Expert Breakdown: The "135" Trauma!
The panel pulled up the footage of Rocky's 135 from the group stage.
Michael Vaughan: "Look at the bat speed. He was hitting Watson over mid-wicket against the wind. That 135 wasn't a fluke. It was a blueprint. If Rahul Dravid hasn't found a way to stop Rocky in the powerplay, this final will be over in thirty minutes."
Sanjay Manjrekar: "The dia is calling this the 'Passing of the Torch.' So outlets are even saying that after Kohli, Rudra is the only one with the ntal makeup to surpass the Master's legacy. It's a heavy tag, but look at the boy, he's sitting in the dugout reading a book while the stadium screams his na. He doesn't feel the weight."
___
dia Frenzy: "The Next Great Rivalry"
Outside the stadium, news vans were parked bumper-to-bumper.
Headlines across the digital boards read:
"DRAVID'S LAST STAND vs. RUDRA'S RISE"
"18 > 10? THE NUMBERS THAT ARE DEFINING DELHI"
"CAN THE WALL WITHSTAND THE UPCOMING STORM?"
A reporter for Star Sports was interviewing a group of teenagers outside Gate 3.
Reporter: "Why the Rocky jersey over Sachin's today?"
Fan 1: "Sachin sir is our heart, but Rocky is our adrenaline! We saw him hit 135 against these guys last ti. We want to see him hit 150 tonight!"
The reporter then moved the mic towards the other guy, urging him to say sothing.
Fan 2: "People say the crown passed from Sachin to Virat, but in our house, it's different...maybe because of . The bloodline skips straight to Rocky. My dad had his master blaster, and I have mine. Let's hope I'm right after one decade."
___
The bells of the Kotla rang out as Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid walked toward the center.
This was the final competitive ga for both Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid.
The respect was imnse, but the crowd's hunger was for the teenager standing near the boundary rope.
Ravi Shastri: "LADIES AND GENTLEN, THE TOSS FOR THE GRAND FINAL OF THE CLT20 2013! It is a massive occasion! Rahul Dravid has the coin... Rohit calls Heads... and it is TAILS!"
Ravi Shastri: "Rahul, you've won the toss in your final ga. What's the call?"
Rahul Dravid spoke with a calm, professional smile, "We've seen what this pitch does under lights, and we've seen what Mumbai's openers can do. We are going to BOWL first. We want to put Rocky and Sachin under pressure early and chase whatever they set."
"We want to try one more ti. Hopefully, we'll get them under powerplay."
Rohit Sharma remained unfazed, "We would have batted anyway. We want to set a huge total. The boys are ready, Rocky is in a special zone, and we want to give the legends a winning farewell."
Both teams had no change. They were playing with sa playing 11.
___
As the MI openers geared up, the cara panned to Rocky Rudra.
He was adjusting his helt, staring at the pitch with a determined, predatory focus.
He wasn't smiling much. He was in concentrating, playing the balls inside his mind.
Today he was ready to repeat the 135, or do sothing even worse to the Royals.
Harsha Bhogle (on the air): "The atmosphere is purely, dangerously electric. Two legends walking away, one superstar arriving. The Kotla is ready. But Are you?"
___
The floodlights at the Feroz Shah Kotla humd with a tension that felt like it could snap at any mont.
The umpires, Kumar Dharmasena and Rod Tucker, walked out to the middle, the white ball gleaming in the light.
Kumar Dharmasena signaled toward the pavilion, then turned to the field.
"Let's play."
The Opening Over
Bowler: Vikramjeet Malik
Batter: Rocky Rudra
0.1: Malik stead in, looking for that early swing. He bowled a full-length delivery on off-stump.
Rocky, balanced and still, played a soft-handed push to mid-off.
No run.
Harsha Bhogle: "The stillness... look at how still Rocky is. He's not looking for the record. He's looking for the middle of the bat."
0.2: Malik went shorter, aiming for the ribs. Rocky hopped slightly and tucked it away to fine leg for a single.
The stadium erupted as if he'd hit a hundred.
Score: 1/0.
0.3: Sachin Tendulkar on strike.
Malik bowled a beautiful outswinger. Sachin leaned into a classic cover drive, but the ball gripped the dry surface and went straight to the fielder. No run.
0.4: Sachin worked a length ball into the gap at mid-wicket. He scampered for a single, eager to get the youngster back on strike.
Score: 2/0.
___
0.5: Malik, emboldened by the pitch's grip, decided to test Rocky with a slower-ball bouncer.
It was a deceptive, cutters-heavy delivery that hung in the air.
Rocky saw the height and looked to pull it over mid-wicket. But the ball stopped on him. The ball did not co onto the bat at the expected speed. It slowed down dramatically after hitting the turf, the pitch finally revealed its fangs.
This ssed up Rocky's shot timing, making him swing too early.
'Damn!'
He cursed inwardly, fully aware what he did.. wishing he could stop his movents but it was easier said than done.
But didn't stopped running. Both Sachin and him ran like it was not in the air.
The ball took a thick, leading edge and spiraled high into the night sky, drifting toward Jas Faulkner at short-mid-on.
Faulkner, one of the safest pairs of hands in Australian cricket, settled under it.
The stadium went deathly silent.
You could hear the intake of breath.
The ball hit the palms, wobbled, and popped out as Faulkner hit the turf.
2 runs.

___
The Kotla exploded in a deafening roar of relief.
It was a sound of pure, unadulterated joy.
In the Field:
Rahul Dravid was caught by the cara at mid-wicket. His hands were instantly over his mouth, his eyes wide in disbelief.
It was the face of a man who knew he had just dropped the trophy. He looked at Faulkner, then at the sky, a rare mont of visible frustration on "The Wall's" face.
In The Comntary Box:
Harsha Bhogle: "HE HAS DROPPED IT!"
"Jas Faulkner has dropped the most important catch of his life! The Kotla is screaming! You cannot give ROCKY RUDRA a second life, you just cannot!"
Sourav Ganguly: "That was the ga, Harsha. To , it was right there. You see Rahul's face? He knows. You don't give a tiger a second chance when he's already inside your house."
___
The Foreign Broadcasting:
Sky Sports, UK.
Michael Atherton: "Unbelievable. Faulkner, who usually catches everything in his sleep, has just handed Rocky Rudra a reprieve. Dravid looks like he's seen a ghost. In London, we'd call that a 'sitter.' In Delhi, they call it a miracle."
Fox Sports, Australia.
Shane Warne: "Oh, Jimmy... no, mate! You've just let the genie out of the bottle. Look at Rocky, he's not even looking at Faulkner. He's already marking his guard again. That's the look of a man who's about to make you pay for every single run."
SuperSport, South Africa.
Shaun Pollock: "The physics of that drop... it just shouldn't happen. The pressure of the 'Rudra' na in the stands must have gotten to him. Dravid's reaction says it all, that's the biggest mistake RR has made in this tournant."
___
0.6: Last ball: Rocky didn't wait. He didn't reset.
Malik tried to follow up with a yorker to capitalize on Rocky's supposed nerves.
Rocky stepped out, converted the yorker into a half-volley, and cread it through extra cover.
It hit the boundary rope before the fielders could even move.
Comntary (Harsha Bhogle):
"And there is the interest! The tax for that drop is being collected imdiately! Four runs! And Rocky Rudra is back in business!"
End of Over 1: Mumbai Indians 8/0
Rocky Rudra: 7* (3)
Sachin Tendulkar: 1* (2)
