The Kotla pitch, which had felt firm during the fielding innings, began to show its true, treacherous nature under the shifting night humidity.
The ball wasn't coming on nicely. It gripped, stopped, and stayed low, turning the opening overs into a nightmare for the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
Over 1 - 2.2: Mohit Sharma and Albie Morkel were hitting a "test-match" length.
Sachin, usually so precise, was mistiming everything. A flick went straight to mid-wicket.
A late cut resulted in a play-and-miss.
In the Comntary Box.
Harsha Bhogle: "It's painful to watch. The great Sachin Tendulkar is searching, he's probing, but the surface is holding the ball. It's like he's batting in a hall of mirrors, everything is just a fraction off."
Nasser Hussain: "This is Dhoni Trap, I guess. They've prepared for this dry patch, and Sachin is caught in the web. Rohit made a blunder for not batting first. 185 feels like a thousand miles away right now. Mumbai is 8 for 0 after 15 balls. The pressure is becoming a physical entity."
At the non-striker's end, Rocky watched as Sachin wiped sweat from his brow, his face etched with uncharacteristic frustration.
After a dot ball on 2.2, Rocky walked up to the Master Blaster. He didn't offer technical advice.
He just tapped Sachin's gloves and whispered, "Paaji, just give the strike. I'll try to break their rhythm."
Then on the next ball, Sachin took a single on Ball 2.3, putting Rocky on the strike and sighing in relief.

Ball 2.4, Albie Morkel to Rocky: A slower-ball bouncer, angling in.
Rocky didn't wait for the pitch to dictate terms.
He stepped three feet outside leg-stump, creating his own length, and flat-batted it over long-on.
It not only went for six. It even hit the top tier.
Sourav Ganguly: "WOW! That is pure intent! He's saying 'I don't care about the pitch!' That traveled 102 ters!"
Ball 2.5: Morkel went for the yorker.
Rocky anticipated it. He moved deep into his crease and executed a helicopter flick, a deliberate jab at Dhoni's signature shot, sending it screaming through mid-wicket for 4 runs.
Ball 2.6: A frantic Morkel bowled a wide, searching delivery.
Rocky reached out and slashed it over backward point. 6 Runs.

Dhoni tried to freeze him with spin.
Ball 3.2: Ashwin tossed it up, the carrom ball. Rocky danced down the track and launched it straight over the sight-screen.

Ball 3.3: Ashwin went flatter. Rocky stayed back and pulled it with ferocious power.
4 Runs.
Ball 3.4: A desperate Ashwin bowled a wide-ish delivery. Rocky played an inside-out cover drive that defied the slow nature of the pitch.
6 Runs.
Ball 3.5: Another massive hit over long-off.
6 Runs.
Ball 3.6: Rocky looked for another big one but checked his shot as the ball gripped, stealing a quick, aggressive single.
Rocky Rudra score: 43* Runs off 9 Balls.

Sourav Ganguly: "Sachin is smiling now. You can see the relief on his face. The pressure was a mountain, and Rocky just blew the top off it with dynamite. This is the most selfless, intent-filled cao I have ever witnessed in a semi-final."

With the required rate now plumted from 10 to a ager 6.5, Rocky finally fell on the 1st ball of the 5th over, caught at the boundary trying to hit a six off the over.
He walked off to a standing ovation, his job was done.
He had turned a crisis into a cruise.
Sachin found his timing once the field spread, playing a steady 35 (30).
Rohit Sharma joined him and played a captain's knock of 42.
Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard provided the finishing muscle, chasing down the target with 2 overs to spare.
Final Score: MI 188/3 (18.0 Overs)
Result: Mumbai Indians won by 7 wickets.
Thus, The Mumbai Indians were in the Final of CLT20 2013.
Rocky Rudra, the boy who saved the ga with his hands and broke the chase with his bat, stood at the boundary line as the team celebrated.

Rocky still holding the trophy and with practice jersey: "Honestly, Ravi bhai, I just saw Sachin Paaji struggling. When you see the God of Cricket find it tough, you don't think about technique. You think about protection. We all grew up watching Paaji and I really wanted to do sothing there. I told him I'd take the risk so he didn't have to, so he can anchor in case it didn't worked out. I guess it did worked out. The fielding... that's just my job. I hate seeing a ball go past ."
Ravi Shastri: "Dhoni was laughing after your catch. What did he say to you?"
Rocky replied with a grin: "He just told , 'Stop being everywhere, let us play a bit.' It's always an honor to play against him, but once the ga is on and ball is in play, there are no idols."
Ravi Shastri cheekily winked at Rocky and congratulated him: "Very well said and well played."

MS Dhoni: "You prepare for Pollard, you prepare for Rohit. But how do you prepare for a guy who fields like a cheetah and bats like he's playing a video ga? We had a 200-run plan, but he shaved 20 runs off our total in the field and then took 43 out of the chase before we could even set a field. He was the point difference. Plain and simple."

Rohit Sharma: "People talk about carrying a team. Usually, it's the seniors carrying the juniors. I think in MI, it's the other way around. Rocky didn't simply score runs. He changed the mood. He saw the Master struggling and decided to end the contest right there. That's elite ntality. I'm glad that he's playing for MI. I would hate to play against this calibre of players."
