Now reading: Chapter 663: Radiant Church: I Have a New Method to Kill Gar from A Hospital in Another World?, a Adventure novel by 加兰2020.

“…A sense of crisis?”

Garrett lifted his gaze from the thesis and t Lynn’s eyes. The necromancer’s eyes blazed like twin ghost fires, glaring down at him:

“Do you have any idea how many tis this thesis has slapped the Radiant Church in the face? Do you realize how much they want to kill you? How many assassination attempts have they made on you so far?!”

“Uh…”

Garrett silently lowered his head.

His eyes fell on the first page of the thesis. Indeed, apart from himself, there were no mages below level 10 listed as authors.

Even as co-authors, except for Aurora and Mr. Norwood, all were high-level mages, level 9 or 10.

If the Radiant Church wanted to assassinate soone to vent their anger or to delay the progress of the council’s research, who would they target?

The answer was obvious. Assassinating him, Garrett Nordmark, was the most cost-effective choice...

“Isn’t Nevis doing a decent job with security?” he asked, clinging to a shred of hope, “I travel to and from the clinic and the Mage Tower daily, riding Lord Appa through the wilderness. It shouldn’t give anyone the chance to assassinate , right?”

Should he have Cirella co back for a while?

Or, if the astrological branch refused to let her return, could he ask them to beef up security?

Maybe borrow a defensive artifact or ask them to install a teleportation gate?

Lynn looked at him helplessly. Garrett, when it ca to spellcasting levels, wasn’t slow in advancing. In terms of casting ability, he had a few unique skills. But in terms of combat level...

Lynn believed that even when he was just a low-level mage, he could have easily killed ten or eight careless guys like Garrett.

“You... you’d better stay in the Mage Tower for the ti being. If there are any urgent patients, have them sent to the tower...”

Seeing Garrett’s bitter expression, about to argue, Lynn sighed and changed his tone:

“If you really can’t do that, at least stay alert. Don’t ever be without your feather pen, it has a built-in force field and teleportation spell!”

“Uh... I always have that with …”

“And the bracelet Lord Alda gave you? Wear it or keep it in your pocket. Don’t just stuff it in your space pouch where you can’t activate it in a critical mont!”

“Uh, uh, alright…”

“Also, stay at ho these days, don’t run around, and try to stay close to your teacher! At least level up quickly to seven…”

He nagged incessantly, almost wanting to knock so sense into Garrett’s head. How could this guy be so worrying?

Garrett obediently looked up at him, nodding at every sentence. After the nodding, he looked outside the Mage Tower, towards the distant east with a lancholy expression:

Radiant Church people?

If you want to send assassins to kill , hurry up and send them! Once I deal with this wave, I can get back to my work without delay!

In the Radiant Holy City, Vice Judge Lusen was once again being scolded by the Chief Judge.

This ti, two issues of “Arcane” and one issue of “Magic” were thrown at him, almost slapping his face:

“Lusen, where is your action? Where is your devotion to our god? Your willingness to sacrifice for our god? Where has it gone?!”

Three top journals, one discussing painless childbirth, one suggesting the sun might not be unique. Each article poured a basin of dirty water on the glory of the Radiant Lord, yet they couldn’t refute them.

The Radiant Church hadn’t imported tools for painless childbirth and couldn’t verify it. But, the Inquisition had conducted experints before:

Indeed, cutting the spinal cord prevented feeling in the lower half of the body, including pain.

The article on solar rays couldn’t be verified as the Church lacked the grand magical formations like the star do.

However, even if they could separate another type of ray from sunlight, it was a harsh slap to their doctrine.

Didn’t the Church say that sunlight had only seven colors, representing the seven powers of the Radiant Lord?

Didn’t the Church revise their doctrine to add two more rays based on the Magic Council’s findings?

So should they change it again now? If not, what if the new ray was confird? If they changed it, what if the Magic Council discovered another new ray?

“How is your elimination action progressing? Who did you send? What information have you gathered? When do you plan to eliminate that mage, Nordmark?”

Lusen wore a bitter expression. It wasn’t that he was slack in his duties, but the Church had been in turmoil for the past two years, leaving him without support:

Three years ago, the plague ravaged the Radiant Holy City, forcing the Pope to use [Holy Radiance]. After dragging on for over a year, the Pope finally passed away. The new Pope took nearly another year to settle things down.

Just as they planned to take action, an article on infrared and ultraviolet rays was published. This single article toppled several archbishops and high priests, causing chaos both in the Holy City and in the dioceses.

The struggle for positions in the Holy City and important dioceses sparked an undercurrent within the Radiant Church, leading to another half a year of chaos. Thus, apart from the Inquisition, Lusen could hardly mobilize any other resources...

However, during this period, Lusen did have so progress. Though this progress might not please the Chief Judge:

“By the way, we’ve tracked down the whereabouts of that ‘Viper’ Arezzo.”

“How?”

“He was captured…”

Not only was he captured, but he also implicated the Church’s undercover agents in Nevis, leading to another batch being swept out. The people Lusen sent worked hard to gather information and then relay it back, only for the Vice Judge to find—

There was no one left to use.

Each spy was precious!

Every assassin, trying to operate without local support and to strike at the right mont, was extrely difficult!

“Your subordinate believes that conducting targeted elimination actions in Nevis City might be challenging.” He reported respectfully:

“But I believe we can lure the target out of Nevis. To sowhere our influence is stronger, or at least where the mages are weaker, making it easier to strike.”

“How do you plan to lure him?” The Chief Judge frowned. “Would the council agree to let such a promising young mage go?”

“It wouldn’t be easy, but there’s an opportunity right now…”
