The Zhuang Family in Beijing welcod two guests early in the morning.
The old lady wasn’t in good health and was lying in her room, so Ruan Xinyu brought Mu Yan out to receive the guests.
Mrs. Ning’s gaze was fixed tightly on Mu Yan, surprise in her eyes—she looked, she really looked too much like her.
Being stared at like that made Mu Yan’s skin crawl a little, but she couldn’t say anything, so she kept her head down and sipped her tea.
Ruan Xinyu knew Mrs. Ning was looking at her "future daughter-in-law." Whether she knew about Nuannuan already being married or not, she was definitely not going to let this go quietly later.
He said to Mu Yan, "Go see what your cousin is dawdling over. There are guests at ho and he doesn’t even know to co entertain them."
"Okay." Mu Yan stood up and said to Mrs. Ning, "Auntie, please, sit for a while."
"Go on." Mrs. Ning smiled and nodded, secretly sighing that this girl was really well-mannered. What a pity she wasn’t her daughter-in-law.
"I’ll go with my sister-in-law." Ning Ze suddenly stood up and said.
Mrs. Ning shot her son a look. What "sister-in-law"? This brat’s elbow was already turning outward.
Mu Yan glanced at him, then led him upstairs.
Once upstairs, Ning Ze didn’t bother to be tactful and laughed. "Sister-in-law, I really never thought you almost beca my actual sister-in-law."
"That was just the older generation joking around. It could never be taken seriously." Mu Yan said calmly.
Seeing her so composed, Ning Ze felt a little uncomfortable. He knew very well his brother had waited for her for many years.
But their age gap was big, and back then she’d been too young to understand anything, right.
"Where’s Brother Jiang?"
"I asked him to stay in the room." Mu Yan said.
"Why?" Ning Ze looked at her in surprise.
Mu Yan really wanted to roll her eyes at him. His mom was clearly here to demand an explanation—if she saw Jiang Jingheng was also here, she’d probably get so mad her blood pressure would shoot through the roof.
Ning Ze didn’t understand what she was thinking and chuckled. "I never thought even Brother Jiang would have a day where he’s too embarrassed to see people. If Dong Le and the others heard about this, their jaws would drop."
"If you don’t feel like going out to see people, I can help you out." A cool voice floated over, and a figure stepped out from the room ahead.
When Ning Ze saw who it was, his face changed. He hurriedly put on a fawning smile and said, "Brother Jiang, I was just joking."
Zhuang Yi ca out of another room and said, "Didn’t expect you to have ti to co to Beijing too, kid."
"Aren’t I afraid my mom’s temper will flare up too much and make her sick? As her son I definitely have to accompany her." Ning Ze said helplessly.
"Alright, stop fooling around. Co to the study, let’s play a ga of chess."
"Sure." Ning Ze followed him, then looked back and saw Jiang Jingheng still standing where he was. He asked, "Brother Jiang, aren’t you coming?"
Jiang Jingheng ignored him, pulled Mu Yan back into the room, and as soon as they went in, he pressed her against the wall.
Mu Yan was a bit stunned and asked, "What are you doing?"
"Am I that embarrassing to show to people?" Jiang Jingheng asked with a cold face.
"Of course not."
"Then why won’t you let go downstairs?"
Mu Yan pursed her lips. "You know I had a marriage arrangent with Brother Ning. The Zhuang Family is in the wrong about that. If she sees the two of us together, she’s definitely going to feel upset."
"So, you’re just going to make feel upset instead?" Jiang Jingheng countered.
Mu Yan froze for a mont, then shook her head. "No."
"But I’m feeling really uncomfortable right now."
Mu Yan asked in a small voice, "Then what do you want to do?"
"What do you think?" Jiang Jingheng raised a brow.
Seeing the way he obviously wanted her to show sothing, Mu Yan couldn’t help smiling. She leaned over, kissed him on the lips, and said, "That should be enough, right?"
"Too perfunctory."
Mu Yan said crossly, "What are you feeling so wronged about? If you hadn’t tricked into marrying you, I might really have gone through with the engagent and married Brother Ning. Then none of this would have anything to do with you now."
A shadow passed through Jiang Jingheng’s eyes and he said in a low voice, "Then I’d just kill him and snatch you away."
Mu Yan only thought he was joking, but she genuinely liked this domineering side of him deep down. She couldn’t help kissing him again, then leaned in to his ear and whispered a sentence.
After she finished, she shoved him away and ran out.
Watching her shy little escape, a smile slowly spread across Jiang Jingheng’s lips.
