Mu Yan turned around and saw soone approaching from behind. She instinctively took a step back.
In a mont of carelessness, her foot twisted slightly.
"Hiss..." She gasped in pain, looking warily at the person in front of her.
"Are you alright?" A man’s anxious voice ca through.
In the light of the streetlamp, Mu Yan finally saw who it was and felt slightly relieved. She nodded toward him and said, "Brother Ning."
"Your foot..." He bent down, reaching out to touch her foot.
"I’m fine." Mu Yan took a step back.
Although she had twisted it slightly, it wasn’t sprained.
She bent down and moved her ankle a bit; it didn’t seem as painful anymore.
Ning Shishen watched her distant deanor, frowning slightly. Nuannuan used to not be like this.
He straightened up and asked, "Why are you alone here?"
"I was having dessert with the staff here and waiting for a cab ho."
Ning Shishen glanced at his watch and said, "It’s not a great ti to catch a taxi. Let take you ho."
"No need, I’ll just take a cab," she quickly replied.
Ning Shishen seed to see through her thoughts, smiling as he said, "Are you afraid Jiang Jingheng will misunderstand?"
Mu Yan nodded, "Mm."
Ning Shishen almost self-mockingly said, "Are you always so good at setting boundaries with people?"
Mu Yan was taken aback for a mont and explained, "No, I..."
"We’re friends." Ning Shishen interrupted her, "Just because you’re married and have a husband, do you have to reject all your friends?"
Mu Yan hesitated; what he said wasn’t wrong.
But...
"It’s getting late, and I’m worried with you being here alone. I believe Jiang Jingheng would agree it’s okay if I take you ho."
Ning Shishen paused, then added, "If you’re worried, I can call him."
"No need," Mu Yan quickly said, "Then I’ll trouble you, Brother Ning."
She glanced at the bottomless dark alley behind her, suddenly feeling a chill.
It was fortunate she ran into Ning Shishen today; otherwise, she would have been scared to death.
"My car is over there; I’ll go get it."
"I’ll go with you," Mu Yan hurriedly said.
"Okay."
They walked forward together and soon got into the car and left.
Not long after they drove off, a shadow suddenly appeared in the alley, watching the car’s departure for a long ti before leaving.
Just after getting into the car, Jiang Jingheng called.
"I’m on my way back; are you ho yet?"
"Mm, I know."
Mu Yan hung up the phone, drooping her head, lost in thought.
Ning Shishen glanced at her and asked, "What’s wrong with you?"
"Nothing."
"I’m quite curious why Jing Heng didn’t co to pick you up so late, leaving you waiting for a cab by the roadside?" Ning Shishen asked.
"He had things to do tonight." Mu Yan replied.
"Did you two have a fight?" Ning Shishen asked.
"No," Mu Yan imdiately denied.
"Hmm?" Ning Shishen was a bit skeptical.
Mu Yan hesitated and said, "It wasn’t a fight. It’s just that I found out he has a first love."
She bit her lip and explained, "I know it’s normal for him to have liked soone before , but..."
But she didn’t want to be a substitute for soone else.
She would be jealous because he liked others, but she feared even more that he liked her because of another person. How could she handle that?
"But what?" Ning Shishen inquired.
Mu Yan didn’t answer; instead, she asked, "So, your fiancée, is she also your first love?"
Ning Shishen t her gaze and nodded, "Mm."
Hearing that, Mu Yan beca even more worried. Are n always so obsessed with their first love?
