Chapter 92. Return

Inside a eting room at the Modification School’s headquarters, the doors were tightly shut, and a tense atmosphere filled the air.

Lucy sat in a chair, watching Losqi, who stood before her.

Losqi did not understand why Lucy had called him into this room only to make him stand there doing nothing.

By his estimation, five minutes had already passed since he entered, yet Lucy had still not spoken.

His previously relaxed hands slowly curled inward. He did not clench them into fists—he was suppressing the irritation rising within him.

But that suppression had its limits. Just as he was about to speak, Lucy spoke first.

“Losqi, how long has the position of the Modification School’s chief representative in the City of Apprentices been vacant?”

Losqi’s heart trembled. He felt as though he had just heard sothing extraordinary.

Starting with such a question gave him a sudden premonition—he might be the one taking over the position.

“It has been over a month. During this ti, I have been handling the school’s affairs on an interim basis.”

He smoothed the wrinkles on his robe, suppressing the surge of excitent that had suddenly risen in his chest.

Lucy rested her hand on the armrest without moving and spoke slowly.

“In that case, the position should naturally pass to you.”

The sudden surprise left Losqi dizzy. He was so overwheld that his speech beca clumsy.

“Ah… thank you… thank you, ma’am.”

He had never imagined that he would obtain the position so easily. He had originally thought he would need to endure another five years.

Ever since he had been promoted to a formal Mage and gained access to the spell explanations specifically prepared for formal Mages by the school, he had realized that his path as a Mage might already be nearing its end.

His talent for spells was extrely poor, and after joining the school, his spell proficiency had always ranked sowhere in the lower-middle tier among the apprentices.

However, he had joined the Modification School at the perfect ti.

Back then, the Modification School had only just established itself in the City of Apprentices. There were hardly any apprentices, and even the number of instructors stationed there was very small.

At that ti, with his weak magical ability, the only school he could choose to join was the Modification School.

After he joined, a Second-Tier Mage was suddenly transferred in as the new head of the school, and the school began to flourish.

From that point onward, the Modification School gradually beca a dominant force in Lodris.

Losqi had benefited greatly from that head.

At the ti, he had been given a vial of glowing green potion. The head had told him this:

“Drink it, and you will beco a formal Mage.”

By that ti, Losqi had already given up on the idea of becoming a formal Mage. He had repeatedly failed the assessnts and had never even co close to ranking.

But when he saw the look in that head’s eyes, he understood that he had no choice but to drink it.

After drinking it, he fell unconscious.

When he woke up, a month had already passed. To his astonishnt, he discovered that his spiritual power had increased dramatically, and casting spells no longer felt sluggish at all.

Not long after that incident, the head left the City of Apprentices, and Beloli was transferred in from elsewhere.

For reasons unknown, that head must have said sothing to Beloli before leaving, because afterward Losqi was assigned to handle various administrative tasks within the school.

At the ti, this had made him incredibly happy. Administrative positions within the school were not given out lightly. Without a recomndation letter, one could forget about working within the school’s administration.

He had long known that Beloli would eventually be transferred away, and that the position of the Modification School’s chief representative would eventually fall to him.

But he had never imagined that the day would co so quickly.

“However…” Lucy’s tone suddenly darkened before she continued,

“I hope you do not cause any trouble in the coming days. I will suppress the previous matter.”

Losqi was startled and quickly asked,

“But the higher authorities of the school…”

“There is no need to worry. The Alliance has too many records. Those people are not going to review every single file.”

“Right now, the most important thing is you. As long as nothing happens from this point forward, it will be good for both you and .”

Losqi felt as though all the good fortune in the world had fallen upon him.

In truth, he had long wanted to conceal the matter without reporting it. If such an incident were reported, even if it were resolved, it would bring him no benefit. If it were not resolved, he might end up being held responsible.

Therefore, he had always hoped to avoid reporting it if possible.

Unfortunately, Beloli had failed to grasp the situation earlier, and later developnts forced him to submit a report.

Failing to report the earlier issue might only have resulted in a symbolic fine. But failing to report the later matter could cost him his head.

Only soone with a higher status could decide whether or not to report such matters.

Now not only had the issue been resolved, but he had also obtained the position of chief representative. It was difficult for him not to smile.

“As long as that attacker disappears from now on, you will be able to remain the chief representative indefinitely.”

Lucy emphasized this point.

Losqi found the remark sowhat strange. What did that attacker have to do with him? Why would it affect—

“Teacher, there is a formal Mage outside requesting to see those inside.”

A hurried knock sounded at the door, interrupting Losqi’s train of thought.

Lucy glanced at him before canceling the soundproofing spell and opening the door.

“Bring that Mage in.”

A mont later, Selin walked in. With a bright smile, she greeted the two of them.

“Greetings, both of you. I am Selin, a First-Tier Mage from the Law School.”

“The Law School? I thought it had already left the City of Apprentices.”

Lucy replied bluntly.

“That was in the past. Now I am working to bring the Law School back to Lodris.”

As she spoke, Selin produced a large stack of papers and said,

“Here—these are opinion letters from the various schools approving the Law School’s return. Please lend your support.”

“Why should we sign this?”

Losqi looked completely confused. He did not understand Selin’s behavior. Even if she needed his signature for the school’s return, she had not even bothered to discuss it first and simply asked him to sign. It was rather disrespectful.

anwhile, Lucy stared at Selin without blinking.

“So, are you going to sign or not? If you refuse, I will just go ask the Necromancy School instead. I think a major school would sympathize with the difficulties faced by a small school like ours.”

Selin said impatiently.

“Fine. Bring the docunts over. We will sign them.”

Lucy’s expression turned grim as she interrupted Losqi, who was about to speak. She accepted the stack of docunts and placed them on the table.

Losqi might not know this, but the Law School had already established contact with a Fourth-Tier Mage.

Although a Fourth-Tier Mage was far beyond the reach of First- or Second-Tier Mages like themselves, the problem was that the Fourth-Tier Mage was currently in the City of Apprentices.

Even if refusing to sign would not necessarily provoke action from that Fourth-Tier Mage, it would still be a clear sign of disrespect.

Moreover, this situation provided Lucy with considerable room for maneuver.

She could attribute the matter to pressure from that Fourth-Tier Mage, exaggerate the significance of the Law School’s return, and summarize Beloli’s disappearance as:

“The school’s operations have encountered certain difficulties.”
