This is completely treating Wu ngting as a long-term backup, nurturing her until one day he doesn’t want to play anymore or is tired, and then decides to marry Wu ngting.
The problem is, he can’t even ensure Wu ngting can be promoted from backup status two years later.
This approach is really selfish.
It wasn’t until Sun Xiaorui returned to the room that Chen Feng snapped out of his frozen state.
"What did you guys talk about downstairs? Why does ngting look like she’s been crying?"

Sun Xiaorui was silent for a while before saying candidly, "Then you really are wrong. If you promised her sothing back then, backing out now would make anyone angry and hurt."
Chen Feng said, "If I were to beco her boyfriend, it wouldn’t be appropriate for you to continue living here."
Sun Xiaorui paused, then laughed, "It’s okay, I can live elsewhere. But ngting has already told that I could still live here, but we need to sleep in separate rooms. I already ntioned this to you."
"What she said is true, but you should know how strong a woman’s jealousy can be. Although she was just my sworn sister before, she already took issue with us sharing a room every day. Once she becos my girlfriend, not only will we have to sleep in separate rooms, she might even limit or forbid our intimacy."
Sun Xiaorui retorted playfully, "Are you suggesting I should help you think of a way to prevent her from becoming your girlfriend?"
Chen Feng shook his head, "I’ve thought about it for ages and there’s no good solution. Do you have any ideas? I’m just warning you, if ngting truly becos my girlfriend, it wouldn’t benefit you at all."
Sun Xiaorui sighed, "There’s nothing we can do. I’m far from ngting; she’s better in every aspect, especially since she pleases your parents. Most importantly, I know you have feelings for her. You’re resisting her becoming your girlfriend because you feel differently about her compared to other won."
Sun Xiaorui was right about this.
If it wasn’t Wu ngting, any other pretty woman offering herself repeatedly would have broken down Chen Feng’s resistance.
Just like Jin Xinyan, he slept with her the very night they t, unlike Wu ngting who he keeps pushing away and hesitating with.

"Even if she’s indeed better than you, just giving up like this shows a lack of ambition."

Sun Xiaorui laughed bitterly, looking at him, "So let ask you, if ngting and I fell into the river at the sa ti, who would you rescue first? Trust your initial response, it’s not , right?"
Chen Feng was imdiately speechless, his subconscious mind had just chosen to save Wu ngting first; the initial reaction in one’s mind often turns out to be the most accurate, and Sun Xiaorui was right.
"See, I told you." Sun Xiaorui said, her tone tinged with bitterness, "I’ve always had self-awareness, that’s why I’ve never tried to compete with her all these years we’ve lived together—it’s unnecessary, and I can’t win."

Sun Xiaorui asked then, "What are you afraid of, exactly? Afraid that becoming her lover will cost you your freedom?"

If she becos my girlfriend, she’ll first want to sleep in separate rooms from you, then she’ll want to cut ties with other won, which is difficult for to do right now. Plus, she wants an engagent and marriage, which I’m absolutely not ready for."
Sun Xiaorui shook her head, "I don’t know about everything else, but if you can’t fulfill your promises and you backtrack, I think ngting will be very angry and might even cut ties with you."
"Would it really be that serious?" Chen Feng was uncertain.
Sun Xiaorui nodded, "Definitely. We’ve known her for so long, are you still unaware of her personality?"
Chen Feng thought about it carefully, and it really seed possible.
He had been sure Wu ngting wouldn’t leave him, but hearing Sun Xiaorui say this, the possibility seed quite real.
No matter if he has a terminal illness or not, if you hurt a woman too deeply, she’s sure to leave you.

After talking for a while, Sun Xiaorui said, "I’ll sleep in a different room tonight to prevent ngting from getting upset."
Chen Feng said, "She’s not even my girlfriend yet, there’s no need for us to separate rooms now."
Sun Xiaorui said casually, "My relative is visiting now, so sharing a room with you is inconvenient. I might as well take a few days apart from you out of respect for ngting."

"Alright then, let’s sleep separately tonight."
Although he was accustod to sharing a bed with Sun Xiaorui, it was sotis inconvenient.
For instance, when he wants to talk or text with other won, he has to avoid her, and when he practices ditation, he used to go to the training room, but now can do it directly in the bedroom if they sleep separately.
So he didn’t mind much about sleeping apart.
They quickly got to work, and Chen Feng helped Sun Xiaorui pack and move things to the room opposite.
The room they’re in now, and the one next to Wu ngting’s, are both master bedrooms; the room opposite isn’t as big but has its own bathroom—this will be Sun Xiaorui’s room from now on.
Not long after, Wu ngting heard the noise and ca out of her room. Knowing Sun Xiaorui would sleep separately from Chen Feng tonight, she didn’t say anything, just helped Sun Xiaorui move.
It was clear that she genuinely wanted Chen Feng and Sun Xiaorui to sleep in separate rooms.
