The atmosphere turned a bit awkward, but Xu Shujing was quick to help ease the mood by explaining, "ngting is his god-sister, and she is here to visit her god-brother."
Zhao Qigao then realized what was going on and said with a laugh, "You scared for a mont; I thought you two were really a couple."
Wu ngting unenthusiastically shot Xu Shujing a glare, then sowhat coolly said to Zhao Qigao, "Sorry, but I need to go back with Brother Feng. Shujing, if you have ti, maybe you can show him around. Of course, it’s best to let your husband know in advance."
Now it was Xu Shujing’s turn to give Wu ngting a look. She turned to Zhao Qigao apologetically and said, "Old classmate, I’m sorry. My husband will be off work soon, and I need to go prepare dinner. Next ti I’ll take you around."
Zhao Qigao’s expression stiffened for a mont, but he managed a forced smile and nonchalantly said, "It’s no big deal, I understand. So... do you have ti tomorrow? I’ll be staying around Lin Nan County for a few days."
Xu Shujing looked towards Wu ngting, who in turn looked at Chen Feng.
Chen Feng was speechless once again, without uttering a word.
Wu ngting, of course, understood his aning.
She had only t Zhao Qigao once; there was no real friendship to speak of, so there was obviously no need to waste ti showing him around and entertaining him.
"I won’t have ti for the next few days, as I’ve already made plans to explore Lin Nan County."
Wu ngting ignored Zhao Qigao’s hopeful gaze and delivered these tactful words of rejection.
"Actually, I also want to explore this place en route; could I join you?" Zhao Qigao asked with a smile on his face, seemingly making a natural request to join in.
Without a second thought, Wu ngting shook her head and refused directly, "The person I have an appointnt with is a woman, it wouldn’t be convenient for you to follow along."
Zhao Qigao couldn’t hide the disappointnt on his face. He glanced at Chen Feng, wanting to ask if he was also going to join Wu ngting in her outing, but ultimately he did not. After all, Chen Feng was her god-brother, and as an old classmate, he couldn’t compete with that.
"Alright then. It’s such a coincidence that we t again, but it’s really a pity we can’t hang out together," said Zhao Qigao, his voice tinged with dejection.
Wu ngting smiled and said with a hint of double aning, "Life is full of regrets. You’ll get used to it eventually."
Zhao Qigao’s face was a mask of acute embarrassnt.
Finding it a bit hard to watch, Xu Shujing interjected with a smile, "My husband has the day off tomorrow, so we’ll invite you to spend the day here with us. After all, we are old classmates, and since you’ve co to my turf, I definitely want to treat you well."
Zhao Qigao gratefully accepted the downhill slope, "Isn’t that too much trouble for you?"
"What’s the trouble? We’re planning to explore anyway. I’ll give you a call tomorrow morning."
"Thank you so much."
After settling that, Wu ngting didn’t interrupt. After they finished speaking, she said, "Then we’ll be going now. Shujing, are you coming with us, or will you go by yourself?"
Xu Shujing promptly replied, "I’ll co with you. My car is parked over there too."
So, Xu Shujing added Zhao Qigao on WeChat, waved goodbye to Wu ngting and Chen Feng, and left.
Zhao Qigao was left standing alone, watching their retreating figures, feeling lost and disheveled in the wind.
He had gone to so lengths to arrange this encounter, only to be t with such a result. He felt indignant but was also helpless. Wu ngting was as impervious as she had been back in school.
What irked him even more was Wu ngting’s obviously close and warm behavior towards Chen Feng, her god-brother. It was clear she had feelings for Chen Feng, but for so reason, Chen Feng did not reciprocate.
Reflecting on this, Zhao Qigao felt a mix of relief and resentnt.
After all, Wu ngting was a top-notch beauty, the dream girl of many n. He had been infatuated with her for years, unable to extricate himself. What right did Chen Feng have to look down on her?
He longed for her, while she willingly threw herself at Chen Feng’s feet only to be rejected.

"Wow. You’re quite ruthless. You actually blocked him." Xu Shujing was genuinely impressed with Wu ngting, as she herself would not have been able to go to such lengths. After all, they were old classmates.
"What else could I do? We’re adults now, not teenagers anymore. I already made it clear to him that I wasn’t interested, but he kept harassing , so I had no choice but to block him."
"It seems Zhao Qigao is really devoted to you, still unable to forget you after all these years," Xu Shujing remarked with so emotion.
Wu ngting changed the topic, "Are you really planning to contact him and take him around tomorrow?"
"Of course. I am the host here after all, and since we’ve run into each other, I ought to extend so hospitality."
Wu ngting looked at her and said, "Just make sure to bring your husband along. Otherwise, you, a married woman, and him, a single man, wandering around together doesn’t seem appropriate."
