"What TV show are you going on?"
Chen Feng was really curious.
Lin Yujiao smiled a bit embarrassedly before answering, "It's a singing competition show—Good Voice. Last month, the show was holding auditions at People's Square over in Lu City, so I went with a 'let's give it a try' attitude, and sohow I got selected. I even made it through the district rounds and am now entering the first official round of the competition."
The talent show Good Voice is quite well-known. It's been on for several years. Although in recent years its influence and viewership have been declining, it still has a good number of viewers. Thanks to this competition, quite a few participants have managed to achieve fa.
Lin Yujiao's singing skills are impressive, Chen Feng knew from the beginning. However, he was surprised to find out she's competing in a TV talent show, especially one like Good Voice, which has such national recognition.
Chen Feng didn't oppose or object to her decision, but he just gave a reminder: "Have you prepared yourself for fa?"
"Although my singing is decent, I am quite aware of my limitations since I never received professional systematic training. I'm not on the level of those professional singers. Being able to co to Xiu Zhou to participate in the first official round is more than enough for , and I'm happy. If I get eliminated in the first round, at most, people who know will talk about it casually; others won't pay too much attention to ."
Clearly, Lin Yujiao lacked confidence in this competition, or rather, she wasn't too concerned about winning or losing. Her mindset was quite good, actually embodying the spirit of "it's all about participation."
"What if you pass the first round though? Your popularity would definitely rise, and you could beco famous."
After pondering for a mont, Lin Yujiao said, "I haven't seriously considered that. But even if I just pass the first two rounds, the fa is quite limited. I might be famous in Lu City for a short while, but after a month or two, few will rember . I've watched this show for several years, and after so many seasons, aside from the top contestants from the first few, the others never beca very famous. As for , making it to even the top ten is tough; I can't beco a real celebrity."
Chen Feng sowhat agreed with this. With so many talent shows in the country, there are very few who actually make it big, and even fewer who stay famous for a long ti. Compared to those who never make it and are eliminated, it's like sifting for gold.
Moreover, those who do get famous through talent shows often have a benefactor or a signed company behind them. Otherwise, if you're just a plain, unsupported novice, trying to get a good result based solely on personal skill and making it to the top is as hard as winning the lottery.
These talent shows have plenty of behind-the-scenes manipulation, and the underhanded rules are almost semi-public. Believing such shows to be completely open, fair, and just is too naive.
"As long as you're ntally prepared. No matter what, once you're on this show and appear on TV, you'll beco a celebrity back where we are, even if just for a short period. During that ti, your life rhythm will be disrupted, and your personal privacy might be exposed, including your ex-husband, ex-mother-in-law, your divorce, and even the things between you and ."
Chen Feng worried that after she beca famous, her relationship with him would be exposed.
If he didn't have other won, it would be fine. If it were exposed, he and she were just boyfriend and girlfriend. But the problem is he has other won; officially he is the boyfriend of Wu ngting, Sun Xiaorui, Guo ngyao, Jin Xinyan, and Liu Ying. Their families know this, so if TV exposure reveals he is Lin Yujiao's boyfriend, it would be a disaster for him.
"Then... what should we do? Are you against participating?"
Lin Yujiao had a concerned yet unwilling expression.
Chen Feng shook his head and said, "I know you'd be unwilling to give up now. But you know our situation; if it gets out on TV that I am your boyfriend, it would be really bad for . So, we have to choose to break up for now. You need to tell your parents that I'm against you entering Good Voice and that we had a big argunt and broke up. Make it known that you're single and divorced now."
Chen Feng realized Lin Yujiao couldn't give up the chance to go on TV, but he couldn't risk their relationship being exposed, so it was necessary to make a clean break just for now.
Lin Yujiao looked at Chen Feng, troubled. "Well... my parents already see you as my fiancé. If I suddenly say we broke up, they'd be very angry. They've been very pleased with you. They'll definitely force to quit the competition, apologize to you, and reconcile with you."
Chen Feng said casually, "Then say we're currently in a cold war, and after your TV competition ends, we'll reconcile."
Lin Yujiao's brows knitted, and she said sowhat resentfully, "I originally wanted you to be part of my family support group, cheer on at the live show, and maybe get so TV exposure too, but now it seems impossible."
Chen Feng thought to himself: She wishes.
If it were publicly declared on TV that he was her boyfriend, wouldn't that be like an official announcent?
In reality, Lin Yujiao was just one of the won he kept... certainly not his actual girlfriend.
Of course, this was all in his mind. Out loud, Chen Feng said lightly, "It's best to have your family in the support group; there's no need to include ."
Lin Yujiao imdiately fell silent, clearly sowhat emotional.
It was understandable, as what was supposed to be a joyful event now seed to mark a line of separation from Chen Feng, soone she hoped to get support from.
If she hadn't developed feelings or reliance on Chen Feng, she wouldn't care if they "broke up" now.
But she had long considered Chen Feng her boyfriend, so even if she knew it was a fake breakup, it still hurt a bit.
Seeing her like this, Chen Feng stepped forward and held her in his arms to comfort her, "Don't worry, we're only pretending to break up. This way, your parents and others will know we've broken up. Then, even if you beco famous, our relationship won't be exposed. Otherwise, it wouldn't be good for either of us. Don't you agree?"
"I've already said I can't really beco famous. I'm very self-aware. I don't have a high education, I'm a bit older, co from a grassroots background, and have no connections. It's almost impossible to go far on the Good Voice stage."
Lin Yujiao evidently didn't want to "break up" with Chen Feng.
"Don't worry. At worst, once your competition ends, we can get back together easily."
Chen Feng said as he unconsciously rubbed her back, and Lin Yujiao's face gradually turned red.
At noon, Chen Feng and Lin Yujiao ate at a nearby Western restaurant, then returned to East Lake Villa to watch TV and chat, discussing Good Voice's competition format, various ntors, and such topics.
