"To gain sothing, you must first give sothing."
Su Xin reminded himself.
The reason the first task was so simple might have been a deliberate enticent from the system.
After all, the Causality Law Superpower is so miraculous; it couldn’t be that easy to obtain.
Compared to ordinary people, having the chance to awaken various superpowers is already a great fortune. Just by eating ten ants, one could awaken a miraculous Causality Law Superpower. Anyone would do it without hesitation.
There’s nothing to hesitate about.
His gaze gradually beca firm.
After paying the bill and leaving the restaurant, Su Xin was planning to go ho. As he passed by a convenience store, he suddenly rembered sothing and walked in to buy a bag of soft bread.
Eating ants directly was too disgusting.
Wrapping them in bread and hypnotizing himself into thinking he was just eating bread with a little extra protein filling would alleviate a lot of psychological pressure.
With this thought, Su Xin returned to his apartnt complex and squatted down beside a flower bed to start looking for ants.
Fortunately, these creatures were very common. He quickly found a group of ants busily carrying small bits of bread and enacted divine wrath upon them by grabbing ten ants and stuffing them into the bread.
But he thought for a mont.
What if the task failed because so ants lost body parts, or for so other reason? There’s no way he would eat ants again!
In any case, eating ten or a few more makes no difference—it’s just one mouthful.
It’s only disgusting once.
To prevent the ants from escaping from the bread, Su Xin squeezed the bread tightly and started eating it quickly in large bites.
As expected, the nausea diminished greatly with the bread wrapped around it, and his mouth was filled with the sweet aroma of the bread, which tasted quite good.
"I truly am clever!"
"Ding! Congratulations to the host, the task [Corpse Eater] has been completed. Reward: One superpower awakening opportunity. Would you like to use it?"
Su Xin couldn’t help but smile.
"Use it!"
"Ding! Awakened superpower [Unyielding Dead]."
At that mont, Su Xin suddenly saw a cute little girl, about three or four years old, standing not far away, looking at him with a face full of surprise.
"Big brother, are you eating ants?"
Su Xin was in a good mood and imdiately laughed:
"No, I’m eating bread."
"You’re lying. I clearly saw you put a lot of ants in the bread. Big brother, are ants delicious? Better than bread?"
"How could that be? Ants are inedible. You must have seen it wrong just now."
Su Xin explained with a smile. At the ti, he wasn’t in the mood to tease children. After speaking, he turned to leave and began to check the introduction of his new superpower.
[Unyielding Dead LV1: After death, you can automatically resurrect, lasting one hour.]
[Upgrade progress: 0/100.]
anwhile, the little girl behind him walked to the flower bed and, mimicking Su Xin, picked up a small ant, mumbling:
"Adults always lie. He ate so many ants and said you can’t eat them."
"Ants must be delicious."
"The big brother looked so happy eating ants, he must be afraid I’d take them away."
Saying this, she brought the ant to her mouth.
"Tongtong! What are you eating?"
"Put it down!"
At that mont, a slightly panicked female voice ca from the other side, accompanied by hurried footsteps, as a young woman ran over.
The little girl, nad Tongtong, was afraid that the ants would be taken away and hurriedly shoved them into her mouth.
"Tongtong, what did you eat? Spit it out! Don’t eat things off the ground!"
The young woman looked anxious.
Tongtong, however, smacked her lips in confusion: "It’s not tasty at all, why was that big brother eating so happily?"
"Did you already swallow it? Tongtong, tell Mommy, what did you just eat?"
"Ants, Mommy, are ants delicious?"
"Ants? Why did you eat ants? They’re not edible! Who told you to eat them?"
"I saw a big brother eating ants here secretly and looking so happy. I thought they must be delicious, so I wanted to eat them too."
Upon hearing this, the woman was full of anger.
She didn’t believe soone really ate ants, thinking he must be tricking her daughter into eating them.
Such behavior is despicable.
"Where is that big brother you ntioned?"
"Big brother went over there."
The little girl Tongtong pointed in the direction Su Xin had left, but by then Su Xin had already turned the corner and disappeared from their sight, so the woman reluctantly withdrew her gaze.
However, she rembered that when she ca out of the store, she saw from a distance a boy wearing the school uniform from Le Ning Third Middle School standing here.
That boy from Le Ning Third Middle School must have been the little rascal who tricked Tongtong into eating ants.
...
"The resurrection superpower is a good thing."
"But why is it only an hour? Is it to give a chance to leave a final ssage? Or to identify the killer myself after being murdered? Maybe even avenge myself?"
"What’s the point of that!"
Upon seeing the superpower introduction, Su Xin was dumbfounded.
Moreover, since resurrection has a clear ti limit, even if the superpower upgrades, it would at most enhance that ti or improve other conditions. There’s no way the ti limit would be removed entirely.
So, this resurrection superpower...
Wait, no!
Su Xin suddenly had a lightbulb mont.
He realized that his superpower isn’t an ordinary one. If it were just an ordinary superpower, it would really be as he thought—resurrection would only happen once and last just an hour.
But...
His superpower is governed by causality law. According to the system, as long as the preconditions are t, the corresponding outco will inevitably occur.
The precondition for [Unyielding Dead] is ’death’, and the outco is ’resurrection for one hour’.
Under normal understanding.
After ’death’, there will be ’resurrection for one hour’.
When the hour ends, of course, it results in death again, which ets the precondition once more, thus ensuring ’resurrection for one hour’ occurs again.
In other words, once he dies and triggers the [Unyielding Dead] superpower, he would continually cycle between death and resurrection indefinitely.
Put another way.
He would die and resurrect once every hour.
The only unpredictable possibility is whether, after the one-hour resurrection ends, he falls into an unusual state of being neither alive nor dead, or if his existence is straight-up erased.
No, no, no.
How could there be an in-between state?
Even a comatose person is alive, and since the superpower description clearly states resurrection lasts an hour, it’s impossible for him to still be alive after that hour ends.
Furthermore.
Being erased counts as death, right? Surely that would trigger another hour of resurrection.
But...what if?
The system has appeared, and so many states beyond human understanding exist, who can guarantee they absolutely don’t exist?
"So, although this superpower likely provides with an incredible immortality, I should avoid dying whenever possible. Better to stay low-key, since invincibility is still a long way off."
"Even if I truly can resurrect endlessly, dying every hour is quite wretched."
