"I don’t understand what is wrong with Luca these days," I admitted, confiding in my father.
We had arrived early in the morning to spend ti with him, and I saw Luca speed out of the house. He glanced at but did not stop to talk, then hurried away.
It felt abrupt. It was almost as if he was avoiding .
I an, it could be that he was embarrassed after what happened last ti. But after I heard his father’s conversation with him, I’ve been a little on edge.
"Maybe he’s just suffering," my father replied, trying to make sense of it. "It isn’t easy for him to stay here without a job or anything."
Jas was playing football with my children outside in the garden. I watched them from the window, seeing how happy they were that their parents were never going to separate again.
"Father, I don’t understand," I insisted, turning back to him. "He has been here before, so it’s not completely new for him. If anything, you and Jas should feel out of place."
I recalled the last ti I had been here with Luca. When we first ca here, he looked like he belonged, almost too happy to be here.
"Maybe he had a job back then," my father suggested. "Rember your mother was paying him. Now he might feel like he doesn’t belong."
He leaned closer, placed his hand over mine, and gave it a gentle squeeze.
"I an, it’s no secret that he caught feelings for you," he murmured.
"It still doesn’t make sense," I protested.
"Anyway, I’m happy with Kash," I added, smiling at him.
I had told my father everything that happened and why Kash had done what he did. He told he already knew.
"I’m so happy for you," my father said warmly. "As for Lara, if she’s really carrying Kash’s child, it would be better if you two don’t fight."
He sighed and shook his head.
"It was sothing he did for you that landed him in a ss, so don’t give him a hard ti," he advised.
"That’s not even the point," I replied, frowning. "It’s not about what he did for . It’s about the fact that he didn’t sleep with her. It was one drunken mistake."
Then sothing he said caught my attention.
"What do you an by if?" I asked, frowning and pouting at him.
"Well, knowing that woman, I wouldn’t be surprised if the child belongs to soone else," my father muttered. "But I’m a father myself. It’s cheap of to suggest sothing about soone else’s daughter."
He pulled his tongue out and bit it, then touched his ears in apology.
But he has already started a fire inside , and I was beginning to wonder if there’s any truth to these claims. I’ve seen them in a one night stand.
"Father, thank you for bringing it up. I guess I need to investigate," I mumbled, tapping my fingers on the table.
My father snapped his fingers in front of my face and shook his head.
"Don’t worry too much," he cautioned.
"Father, you must really miss your community," I whispered, my voice low and soft. "It’s unfair that the crown was stolen from you."
I rembered the injustices he suffered at the hands of his mate and his own son. The thought still unsettled .
"I miss my people too," he admitted quietly. "And I worry about them."
"They don’t deserve soone like my brother," I replied. "I’m always afraid, wondering how he’s handling things there and how they’re living under his rule."
My father sighed, rubbing his face with both hands before leaning back in his chair.
"I was thinking..." I began, but he lifted a finger to stop .
"Do not ever ntion war," he warned. "War kills innocent people. If they stay in their territory, let them live in peace."
He lowered his hand and looked at firmly.
I gave him a faint nod. Deep down, I was still thinking about it.
I did not argue, but when I imagined the people living there and what my mother and brother were capable of doing, it did not sit right with . Still, I chose to remain calm for now.
By lunchti, Kash ca straight to the guest house to spend ti with us. We ate together, and I noticed his mother calling him repeatedly.
She kept asking where he was, why he was at the guest house, why he was not with Lara, and where Lara had gone.
Later, after another call from her, Kash contacted his warrior and asked where Lara was. He was told she had gone to the hospital for so tests.
Kash inford his mother not to worry. Lara made her own decisions.
Whenever she wanted Lady Vivian’s attention, she acted as if she left everything in her hands. But when she wanted secrecy, she would not let even her own shadow know.And finally, it was ti to leave.
As we were heading out, I saw Luca return. He looked far more anxious than he had in the morning, which imdiately alard .
I watched him enter through the main gate with his hands tucked into his jacket pockets. He lifted his head to look at , then suddenly froze for a few seconds.
When he noticed Kash, he lowered his gaze and moved past us.
I stepped away from Kash.
"Kash, do you mind if I stay here for a bit to speak with Luca?" I asked softly, not wanting to upset him.
I knew he hated Luca. The mont I asked, it was clear from his expression that he did not like the idea.
He released a deep breath and tilted his head back before looking at .
"About what?" he asked, his voice defeated.
"About everything. Rember I told you?" I replied. "I feel like he’s going through sothing, and soone needs to keep an eye on him before he finds comfort elsewhere."
Kash frowned and narrowed his eyes as he faced . I think my choice of words was wrong.
