Capítulo 532: Scene 15: Lumberyard Battle (Part 2)

It’s been nearly an hour since entering the forest.

The sound of bows ca from the woods, soon followed by cheers from the rcenaries who surged forward to drag several corpses out from the bushes—those massive, pale yellow creatures covered in tumors, with heads resembling enormous malignant growths, lacking nostrils and eyes, as if devoid of facial features. However, beneath their folds of skin were hidden thousands of olfactory and auditory organs, allowing them to be hundreds of tis more sensitive than humans in dim or even pitch-black underground environnts—but the rcenaries quickly realized these creatures were already dead. The arrows had only caused surface damage, but each of these Cave Dwellers bore a lethal wound to their chest.

So wounds extended from back to front, while others from front to back, all charred black and penetrating completely through. It seed as though soone had pierced their chests with thunder, creating large holes. A few rcenaries recognized these peculiar wounds made by ‘Dragon Cavalry’. They turned the repulsive creatures over, then looked back with reverence at the young man riding slowly towards them on horseback.

Brand looked down at the Cave Dwellers, their gaping mouths filled with sharp teeth like those of sharks, with pale green blood oozing from the corners—a stark contrast to the warm-blooded creatures of the surface. These creatures living in the lowest layers of Jiao Gangdigen were actually a type of lizard. If possible, Brand would rather annihilate these underground robbers during winter, when customarily they restricted their activities in colder seasons. Unfortunately, the pressing tiline didn’t allow for such plans, and the weather was gradually cooling, which, while not ideal, was at least manageable. At his behest, the rcenaries prodded the long-deceased Cave Dwellers, revealing the stiff claws tightly gripping their long spears.

“They are among the lower ranks in Cave Dweller society,” Hu Que remarked, looking at the corpses. “It seems they’ve kept their elites within the inner defenses. The deeper we go, the greater the resistance we’ll encounter.”

Brand nodded but did not ntion that this was actually good news. Progressing from the outer to inner levels revealed a natural increase in creature hierarchy, mirroring the structuring seen in Amber Sword and most traditional gas. This indicated that the Cave Dwellers hadn’t ford a complete military organization. In simpler terms, they weren’t an army; rather, they constituted a tribe or so other form of Cave Dweller settlent.

Before the attack, his greatest concern was that the Cave Dwellers entrenched in Bearman Forest were part of a military organization that had erged from the Underground World to the Surface World, possibly as an invasion plan by a major tribe or underground city. This was not uncommon in Vorn. Occasionally, underground inhabitants would covet the resources of the surface, though their own resources were abundant, natural selection was much more brutal. Another possibility was that a defeated Cave Dweller army from the Underground World had fled to the surface to survive. However, both scenarios were easier to deal with compared to a loosely connected tribe.

An ordinary monster zone.

In his mind, Brand categorized the Cave Dwellers in this forest. The bodies they uncovered served as lower rank scouts, followed by Cave-dweller Warriors and Kamuru, the latter translating to ‘warrior’ in their underground dialect. Players referred to them as Elite Cave Dwellers, akin to officers, possessing Black Iron Peak strength. Aside from Priests, they represented the strongest combat force among Cave Dwellers.

But even this posed no threat to him.

The rcenaries quickly combed through the area like a net, eventually discovering over twenty corpses, aligning with Brand’s expectations. These corpses indicated that most Cave Dwellers were caught off guard during the Silver Rank strength attack, their lives extinguished in an instant. Wind Spirit Spiders from the Elental Plane of Wind—Storm End, although their strength barely reached Black Iron, had unparalleled airflow control capabilities, making them natural adversaries to the Cave Dwellers relying on olfactory and auditory senses for danger detection.

Thus, the eyes distributed around the forest’s periter were plucked one by one, enabling Brand and his subordinates Yuta, Fern, and Crenxia, and their hundreds of rcenaries to advance through the forest more smoothly than anticipated—hundreds of warriors cautiously moved through the silent woods in the afternoon, stepping on fresh green ferns which rustled softly, so carelessly snapping dry branches with a sudden ‘crack’ that sent shivers down their spines. But fortunately, when the warriors nervously looked up—they only saw so unidentified birds fluttering away among the trees.
