This level also had top-tier luxury cars of every imaginable model.
If it weren’t for her lack of space, Jiang Si would have loved to stuff them all inside.
In the end, she only picked out a solar-powered RV and a few electric scooters comparable to dirt bikes to cram into her space.
No matter how luxurious, cars were not a necessity in the apocalypse.
The solar-powered RV and rechargeable electric scooters, on the other hand, were perfect for handling all sorts of ergencies.
Her space was already packed to the brim, and Jiang Si still needed to save room for a helicopter. This ant that when she passed a high-end shop selling red ginseng and bird’s nest, she could only just barely squeeze in a year’s supply.
Jiang Linhai thought it was a sha. "We should be able to stuff so things inside the helicopter, right? Why don’t we take a little more?"
Jiang Si was speechless. "You’re going to see a lot more good stuff in a little while."
"We have enough food. We don’t need to take these supplents."
Jiang Linhai nodded and followed Jiang Si up another level into the cruise ship’s entertainnt area. A massive stage, a movie theater, a spa, a gaming and fitness center... It was a real eye-opener.
Massage chairs and beds worth hundreds of thousands were everywhere. Jiang Si managed to cram two into her space; that way, she could lie back and relax when she got tired in the future.
Further up was the ultra-VIP luxury suite area. Each room was designed to presidential specifications.
The rooms were filled with the height of luxury and technology, but Jiang Si wasn’t interested. They weren’t lacking for advanced gadgets now.
Only after walking all the way to the sixth deck and peering inside did they find the helicopter that Jiang Si was determined to acquire.
Next to the helicopter lay more than a dozen bodies. Judging by their clothes, they seed to be people of status who had sensed the danger. But the extre cold had spread too quickly; they succumbed to hypothermia in an instant and died.
Jiang Linhai sighed and moved the bodies aside. There were two helicopters in total, and Jiang Si left neither behind, stuffing both into her space.
These were life-saving tools. Even if she had to take other things out of her space to make room, she had to cram them in.
After cramming the helicopters inside, Jiang Si entered her space and found there was barely enough room to set her feet.
Jiang Si and Jiang Linhai took a long ti to return. Fortunately, they could communicate via walkie-talkie; otherwise, Shen Baoying and the others would have been worried sick.
When Jiang Si and Jiang Linhai ca into view, Big Black and Little Black began to bark excitedly. Everyone’s faces lit up with relief. They pulled the pair aboard the helicopter and shut the door before asking, "How was it? Can we stay on the cruise ship? Were there any survivors?"
Jiang Si and Jiang Linhai were silent for a mont before the latter shook his head. "No survivors. But we found a lot of things, and there’s a yacht moored next to the cruise ship. Let’s move over to the yacht. Sisi and I both went aboard to check; it’s fully equipped and very suitable for us."
The fact that there wasn’t a single survivor on such a massive cruise ship was chilling. As the frigid wind howled, everyone shivered, a sense of dread washing over them.
Jiang Si started the helicopter and flew directly over to the yacht beside the cruise ship.
Only after they climbed out of the helicopter did they fully appreciate just how cold it was outside.
It was cold enough for a breath to freeze in midair. Without a head covering, each inhale felt like being stabbed in the lungs with icicles.
The yacht’s engine wouldn’t start and the electrical system couldn’t provide heat. Even with their cold-weather suits, Little Black and Big Black were struggling; after all, they weren’t Siberian Huskies and didn’t have thick fur.
Jiang Si put hats and booties on them so their ears and paws wouldn’t freeze.
Everyone, fully bundled in their gear, moved from the helicopter into the cabin. A thermoter showed the interior was a re twenty degrees below zero.
If you took off your clothes, you would freeze to death.
Jiang Linhai brought out several battery-powered heaters, which helped the temperature in the main hall rise slightly.
But this wasn’t enough. They had to restore the yacht’s electrical system and get the engine started as soon as possible.
Jiang Linhai and Qin Shen inspected the yacht and discovered the main problem: the fuel tank had been frozen by the low temperature.
The quickest solution was to add antifreeze to the fuel tank, switch to diesel with a lower freezing point, and rapidly warm up the engine.
Jiang Si had plenty of antifreeze in her space, and the yacht had a large reserve of it as well.
Even after pouring antifreeze into the tank, the engine showed no signs of turning over. It was frozen solid.
The only option was to find a way to raise the temperature of the yacht first.
The yacht was neither large nor small, but warming it up was going to be a difficult task.
But if Jiang Si and the others wanted to survive on the yacht, they had to do their best to turn it into a comfortable environnt.
First, they had to install insulation. In a storage room on the cruise ship’s first level, Jiang Si had discovered insulation panels. When applied to interior surfaces, these panels would keep the heat from escaping, essentially reinforcing the yacht’s defenses against the cold.
Everyone sprang into action, returning to the cruise ship and using carts to transport the insulation panels.
The temperature along the West Coast of the North Country had never dropped below ten degrees below zero, so no one had ever expected these insulation panels to be used. As a result, they were stored in the very back of the warehouse.
Just loading a few carts and hauling them back to the yacht left everyone completely exhausted.
For the sake of staying warm, they gritted their teeth and worked together to finish paneling the entire main hall.
The tightly sealed hall was indeed much warr. The temperature rose to five degrees below zero.
It was already getting dark. After a quick al of beef noodle soup, everyone laid out their beds in the main hall.
They plugged electric blankets into a generator to warm their bedding. Sleeping side-by-side, they managed to pass a peaceful night.
The next day, everyone continued to haul insulation panels.
The yacht was quite spacious, and paneling the entire thing would take ages. Instead, everyone chose a room and covered it completely with the insulation panels.
As for Jiang Si’s room, everyone, whether intentionally or not, arranged for her and Qin Shen to be together.
Shen Baoying even thought it was a good arrangent; if Jiang Si were to have another episode, Qin Shen would be right there.
After changing the diesel and adding antifreeze, the engine suddenly roared to life at noon the next day.
With the entire yacht powered up, the central heating system could now be used.
The indoor temperature rose to ten degrees, and they could finally take off their heavy polar down jackets.
To prevent the temperature from dropping again and re-freezing the fuel tank, they decided to finish treating the entire yacht with insulation panels before sailing away.
That way, even if the electrical system failed again and they had no heaters, the indoor temperature wouldn’t drop to deadly levels.
Cartload after cartload of insulation panels was brought back to the yacht. Everyone worked without daring to take a mont’s rest.
Everyone felt bad for young Niu Niu, afraid her body couldn’t handle the strain, but she insisted on staying with the group. She couldn’t do the heavy lifting, but at least she could hand tools to people.
Lu Zhifeng thought it was a good opportunity to build Niu Niu’s resilience. Now that the apocalypse was here, he couldn’t let her develop a pampered nature. He persuaded the others not to be overly protective of her.
But soon, Lu Zhifeng would regret it.
Niu Niu had worked up a sweat, then gone out on deck and been exposed to the frigid air. Just as everyone was preparing to rest, Niu Niu collapsed.
