"Yueyue, didn't you cry because you rembered... that night?" Bai Jixuan asked Bai iyue who frowned and shook her head. Why would she suddenly cry because of that night? She might be eighteen years old this year, but she was an old soul.
She was already a mother, so why would she cry over sothing so silly? Lei Qian had treated her with respect and he had never done anything that could possibly scare her. So, her crying because she rembered that night was simply foolish.
When Bai Jixuan saw Bai iyue shake her head, he looked at his sister with a complicated look in his eyes. She didn't cry because of that night, so why did she cry?
"Yueyue—"
"I am a bit tired, second brother." Bai iyue knew what her second brother wanted to ask her but she had no answer to his questions after all. What was she supposed to say to him? She couldn't tell him the truth nor did she want to lie.
"Bai iyue, you—"
When Bai iyue heard Bai Jixuan raising his voice, she flinched. Seeing this, Bai Zhan pushed Bai Jixuan behind him and said to him, "Alright, there is no need to lose your temper with Yueyue." he then turned to look at Bai iyue and said to her, "You too, Yueyue. Don't forget that we only want what's right for you. We are not your enemies, so you can tell us what is bothering you."
Hearing the concern in the voice of her brother, Bai iyue's eyes turned red. She nodded and humd in response. She knew that Bai Zhan was only looking out for her. After all, as the eldest of the three siblings, he was used to taking care of her and Bai Jixuan.
"I will, brother."
Seeing that Bai iyue had agreed, Bai Zhan breathed a sigh of relief. As long as his sister was willing to trust him and Bai Jixuan, it was enough. He raised his hand and rubbed her head before turning around and walking out of the room.
"But—" Bai Jixuan raised his head, looking at his brother in confusion. However, before he could say anything, Bai Jixuan dragged him out of the room.
"Hey, I wanted to—"
What he wanted to do Bai iyue didn't get a chance to find out, as her second brother was already pulled away by Bai Zhan.
She then turned to look at Lei Qian and remarked, "Why are you here?"
Shouldn't he leave now that the matter was over?
"Why did you cry?"
"What?"
Lei Qian stepped forward and cupped her cheek. With a subtle frown between his brows, Lei Qian asked softly, "Why did you cry just now? Was it really because of a nightmare?"
If it was the Bai iyue of the past, Lei Qian would have believed that she was really scared of the nightmare, but after staying with her for so long, Lei Qian knew that Bai iyue was not soone who would be scared of anything. How could she suddenly start crying because of a nightmare?
Bai iyue stared at the man. Instead of answering, she questioned him, "What do you think about ng Guo's father?"
"What about him?" Lei Qian frowned and asked. He paused and then, with an affronted expression, said to her, "You are not expecting to be interested in him, are you sweetheart? I might sowhat look like a woman but I am not interested in n."
Hearing his response, Bai iyue rolled her eyes and kicked him on the shin. She said to him, "Who asked you whether or not you are interested in him, you bastard? I was asking you about his actions. Do you think he did the right thing by abandoning his son?"
She couldn't understand what kind of traumatic experiences Lei Qian had gone through. Why did he think that she was questioning him about being interested in a man just because she asked about another man? If it was soone else, they would have understood her aning right away.
The man stayed quiet for a few seconds before answering in a low voice,
"I think he was both wrong and right."
"What do you an he was right?" Bai iyue asked sharply. How could a man who made a woman carry his children and abandoned them be right? She didn't even notice it but her voice had turned shriller and bitter as she questioned Lei Qian.
Realizing that the woman was getting upset, Lei Qian raised his hands in the air in surrender and said to her, "Relax, your majesty. Let finish what I was saying. I am not saying that what the man did was right; I was saying that he was both wrong and right. He was wrong to lock Jiang Haidai up by using his connections just because the woman is an orphan and had no one to protect her."
"But he was right in not stopping and letting them go. Since he couldn't raise his child, it was right of him to let him leave. At least now ng Guo can live his own life without being dragged down by his father."
Bai iyue caught the subtle hint of gloom between his words and questioned, "What's the matter? Don't tell that you never planned to have a child? You sound like you are afraid that your child will be dragged down by you."
As soon as she finished speaking, Bai iyue regretted it. But the question had been asked and there was nothing that she could do to take the words back.
When Lei Qian heard her words, his eyes turned wide as saucers and he shook his head hurriedly. "Of course not. How dare I have children? Have you forgotten my cousin? His mother is the sister of a small minister. They have quite a lot of wealth and even took what belongs to my grandfather but they were still eyeing my company."
"Do you think that I will dare to have kids with such people lingering around ? What if they try to harm my child?"
