When Bai iyue woke up, she fed Ciyi, who was making a din early in the morning, because she hadn't had anything to eat since last night, and because she had used all her strength, she was starving.
Bai Zhan and the rest had already woken up long ago. The RV was already on the road, and they were now waiting for soone to cook, as they had no idea how to work in the kitchen.
On the other side, the Liu siblings also woke up. This was the best sleep that the two of them had gotten ever since the apocalypse started. Liu i arched her arms over her head and yawned. She turned to look at the side of her bed but didn't see her mother sleeping next to her.
When Liu i saw that her mother was not lying next to her, she turned worried. Where did her mother go so early in the morning?
She got up from the bed and rushed out, only to see Bai iyue standing in the kitchen with an apron tied around her waist. Her eyes lit up, however, before she could walk over to where Bai iyue was standing and greet her, she saw her brother co over. With starry-eyed, Liu Che stared at Bai iyue.
He looked at the woman cooking in the small kitchen of the RV, and his eyes were filled with adoration. His saviour was simply an all-rounder; she was not only good at dealing with scum, but she could even cook.
When Bai iyue heard a noise, she raised her head and turned to look at the man standing behind her. Seeing Liu Che standing in a daze behind her, Bai iyue greeted him warmly, "Good morning, did you sleep well?"
Liu Che smiled at her. He nodded, "Can I help you with sothing?"
Bai iyue shook her head and replied, "No need, I can handle it alone. You should take so more rest." She paused and added, "We are going to the safe house where we live, do you want to go with us or are you going to another base?"
Liu Che wanted to go with Bai iyue, but at the sa ti, he knew that it would be wrong for him and his sister to depend on Bai iyue and her team. They had no relationship with them. So, how could they stay with their team and let them take over their burden?
Even though he was reluctant to leave Bai iyue, Liu Che knew that he couldn't let the woman support him and his sister. He was about to refuse when —
"MOM!"
Liu i's mournful shout caused Liu Che to turn around and run in the direction from which the scream ca.
Bai iyue's expression changed as well. She chased after Liu Che and barged into the restroom. What she saw made her heart fall to the deepest pit in her stomach.
Madam Ai, who was full of energy and youth just last night, was now lying on the floor with all her body shrivelled up. Her skin was sticking to her bones, and her hair had long turned white. Her pupils were murky grey and she looked as if she had aged by a hundred years.
"Mom, mom, mom… what happened to you?" Liu i was crying like an injured animal.
Liu Che staggered to his knees when he saw what had happened to his mother. He cried out in pain, "Mom… what happened to you… How… how did this happen to you?"
Bai iyue's eyes were covered with frost when she saw Madam Ai's condition. It seed like she wasn't able to change the siblings' fate in this life either.
Bai Zhan and the rest also hurried over when they heard the mournful cries of the two siblings.
They saw Madam Ai lying on the floor like a shrivelled-up corpse and sucked in a breath. Bai Jixuan and Bai Zhan, on the other hand, turned to look at Bai iyue, whose eyes were filled with an unyielding look.
They knew how hard Bai iyue had worked to rescue Madam Ai and her children. However, in the end, her hard work went down the drain.
When they saw Bai iyue suffering, their hearts couldn't help but ache.
Bai Zhan and Bai Jixuan walked over to hug Bai iyue as they tried to comfort her silently.
Staring at the ceiling, Madam Ai said to her children, "ii, Ah Che… don't cry." She coughed while breathing laboriously, trying to focus on her children.
Liu i and Liu Che's tears kept flowing. They hugged their mother and cried, "Mom... mom... Don't speak. We will do sothing for you; just wait for us."
However, Madam Ai knew her condition really well. She knew that she was going to die.
"There is no need for you… you—to bother yourself. I know that I cannot stay alive any longer… they …they did tell that if I betray them, I will suffer a death so worse that no one would ever dare to betray them. I guess…this is it…" She then turned to look at Bai iyue. "I will… not ask you to take care of my ki–kids. But please take care of them un—until they et with their uncle. Ha—hand them over to their uncle."
"Were you injected with an unknown chemical?" Bai iyue asked, looking at the sudden changes in Madam Ai's physique.
The woman smiled bitterly, "I know—I know that I have sched—but seeing that I am dying, please take care of my two kids."
It was really hard for Madam Ai to speak; she felt an intense pain with every word that she spoke. But she kept speaking because she knew that if she didn't speak now, then her children might fall into danger. With Bai iyue taking care of her two children, she wouldn't have to worry about their safety.
Bai iyue pursed her lips, and her complexion was rather pale at the mont. Only now did she realise that Madam Ai had sched against her.
