Dacheng just couldn't understand what went wrong. He knew that Lei Qian and Bai iyue did not know one another before the apocalypse. This was sothing that Yang Chunhua had confird, and though he lived in the countryside, he too had seen a little entertainnt news. From what he knew, Bai iyue and Su Hu were together until the end of the world.
So, how did the child in Bai iyue's belly end up becoming soone else? And how co Lei Qian was willing to accept the child that didn't even belong to him?
Could it be Lei Qian's? But how could it be possible? The child in Bai iyue's belly was not even four months old, and the world ended just around that ti, unless by so freakish coincidence, the two of them t when Bai iyue was drugged by her father and stepmother.
"I will tell you the truth, since it's not a secret anyway," Bai iyue stated coldly. "But before that, I want to ask you what wrong I have done to you that you were willing to sell to Yu Miaomiao? You and I both know that joining the team that Yu Miaomiao had created would ultimately kill , and yet you wanted to send there. Have I ever treated you wrongly? Hard you? If not, why were you so eager to see die?"
"It's not like that…" Dacheng frowned while being pressed to the floor. He thought for a mont and thought it through before deciding to tell the truth to Bai iyue. "I just wanted to make use of the child in your belly to make you or Lei Qian join the base. As long as either of you joins the base, I will be able to get promoted. Anyway, a woman like you would sooner or later beco a burden on a man; no matter how powerful you are, you are just a tool who will give birth to the child of a man."
"So even if you die… it is not my concern."
Bai iyue curled her lips and sneered. "It seems like you are finally willing to get more honest." She had never cared about this man when he joined her team, as she knew that there was no point in getting entangled with soone like Dacheng. He had created a perfect persona in front of Yang Chunhua and the others; thus, no one saw through his little tactics, unlike her, who had seen many n like Dacheng in the apocalypse. "So it ans you also used Yang Chunhua to save your life? You knew that she liked you, but despite knowing that, you played around with her and never rejected or agreed with her?"
"That's right."
Yang Chunhua gritted her teeth when she heard Dacheng's response. She knew that this man didn't like her and was only using her, but she was still hoping that it was not like she thought it was. However, now that she had heard the truth from his mouth, how could she delude herself into believing that her friend was still honest and caring?
"Impressive. You rely on won, and yet you think of them as tools. Do I need to bow down in front of how hypocritical you are?"
"So whose child are you carrying?" Dacheng ignored the taunts that Bai iyue was passing his way and looked at the woman with a hint of annoyance in his eyes.
Bai iyue smiled. She leaned down and looked at the man in front of her. "You didn't have to co here to ask the answer to this question. You could have just asked around, and you would have known that the child in my belly belongs to Master Lei."
"Impossible!" Dacheng couldn't believe it. How was it possible unless —
"You have already gotten hold of the answer, haven't you?" Bai iyue arched a brow and questioned. "That's right. That night, when I was drugged, the man who slept with was Master Lei."
When she saw how shocked Dacheng looked, Bai iyue felt even happier. She looked at the man and said, "There is nothing wrong with trying to get strong. However, what's wrong is to use others at your service as if they owe you sothing. If you are taking help, then you need to be grateful, irrespective of the gender. Just because a woman helped you, there is no need to feel like you have beco less of a man. Showing gratitude, emotions and a bit of sincerity doesn't turn you into a eunuch. It only makes you a bit more human."
Dacheng was yet to recover from the shock that he had received from Bai iyue when he heard her chide him. His face turned pale when he realised that Bai iyue had put forth all of his flaws out in the open.
"That–"
"I am not going to ask you to change your ways; after all, every person has his or her own way of living. But you know what, Dacheng? A person's life is too long. What you are doing will definitely bring you a lot of power and money, but you know what? These are the only things that you will get in the end. Today, you ended a good relationship and decades-old friendship just because you wish to achieve greater heights and think Yang Chunhua will beco an obstacle in your path."
"But she is the reason you are alive, Dacheng. I believe that one of these days, when you get what you want, you will realise that you are too lonely. Your heart will be empty and your soul will be weeping for the ties you have broken, and that will be when you will realise the precious things that you have lost. Relationships that were worth more than any position that you can earn."
She then turned to look at her brother and said, "Take him outside. We don't need to talk with him any further." Anyway, there was no point in doing anything because even if she tried to help Dacheng see the truth, the man was too far gone for that.
