Bai iyue raised her head and turned to look at Lei Qian, who nodded at her. Though her heart was filled with hesitation, Bai iyue still reached out and took the box from Old Master Lei, for the old man was looking at her with rather loving eyes. Bai iyue was used to violence, but she was not used to people looking at her with affection or love; she felt rather troubled.
When Old Master Lei saw that Bai iyue had taken the box from his hands, his eyes crinkled even more as he smiled widely. He then turned to look at Mother Bai and said to her, "Then I will take my leave—"
"Oh no, no, no," Mother Bai refused at once as she jumped to her feet and said, "You cannot leave, just like this, sir. At least have dinner with us."
Old Master Lei wanted to refuse, but he couldn’t, not with Mother Bai insisting so much. In the end, he could only agree as he started talking with Bai Zhan and Bai Jixuan while Mother Bai started preparing the dinner.
Bai iyue gave Lei Qian a look and asked him to follow her silently.
Knowing what she wanted to tell him, Lei Qian walked after her and followed her upstairs.
"You should keep this," said Bai iyue as the two of them ca to a stop in front of her room. She didn’t want to keep the Lei family heirloom. Though she had accepted Lei Qian in her life, she had at most accepted his presence and existence as the father of her child. As for the rest, she just wanted to see how things worked out between them. She had no desire to get married or pin herself to just one tree!
What if Lei Qian changed with ti? If that happened, then why would she stay with him? Wouldn’t it be better for them to part ways?
Thus, Bai iyue didn’t want to keep this heirloom with her, for the weight was too heavy for her to carry.
Lei Qian looked down at the small box that Bai iyue was holding in front of him. He reached out but didn’t take the box from her; instead, he pressed her fingers back such that she was the one holding the box in the palm of her hand. Surprised, Bai iyue looked down at the box.
"Ah Qian—"
"Are you thinking about refusing to let see my son and care for him?" Lei Qian asked.
"No."
"Then are you planning to run away with our son and not let see you guys again?"
"Of course not; why would I run away?"
"Since you are not going to run away and you are not going to stop from seeing you, then why are you afraid of keeping this heirloom, unless you are planning on leaving ?" Lei Qian’s eyes darkened when he thought of the possibility. He looked at Bai iyue with an accusatory glance.
When Bai iyue saw him looking at her like that, she pursed her lips. She didn’t know why, but suddenly she couldn’t help but feel slightly guilty. Bai iyue said to him, "It’s not that I am planning to leave you. I just thought that it’s better if the two of us are open-minded. If things don’t work out—"
She hadn’t even finished speaking when Lei Qian reached out and caught her wrists. With the box in her hands, he pulled her hands above her head and leaned in close.
"What—"
Bai iyue looked at the man who had swooped in so close that she could see nothing but him.
"Bai iyue," he called her by her full na, causing Bai iyue to stiffen slightly, as she had never seen Lei Qian looking this serious before. She then heard him say, "There is no such thing as divorce or separation in my family. As long as the n of the Lei family take in a woman as their partner, they will live or die for them. I have chosen you. And I will do anything in my power to keep you and our child safe and sound. There will be no separation."
"If things don’t work out between us, then we will try to make them work. You are not allowed to walk away from ... if there is sothing that you don’t like, then you better tell . I will try to change it. And if there is a day when you feel like you cannot stay with anymore, then you better ask to stop breathing. Because that’s the only way you will get free of ."
After he finished speaking, he leaned in close and kissed Bai iyue on the corner of her mouth before pulling away and walking away.
Bai iyue watched the man walk away. She wanted to say sothing, but she had no idea where to begin. She could only purse her lips and run her fingers through her hair in irritation. Just now, she should have pushed him away, but the second he ca close to her, she couldn’t do it because he looked so pretty!
With her hands covering her face, Bai iyue stomped her feet. She was more than thirty years old; how could she allow a man to tempt her like that? How shaful!
Lei Qian, who had walked away, paused and peered at Bai iyue from behind the wall. When he saw her reaction, he raised his hand and pumped his fist in the air. From the looks of it, the seduction tactics were really working.
Deeply satisfied, he walked down the stairs.
When he walked down, his gaze t his grandfather’s solemnly. The smile on Lei Qian’s lips fell, and he lowered his head slightly before walking over to the couch where his grandfather was sitting. He took a seat next to his grandfather, who whispered, "You better not cause trouble, Ah Qian."
"I didn’t–"
"There is no need to lie." Old Master Lei said, looking at him and sneering. "Your grandfather was also young once; I understand these things better than you."
In response, Lei Qian’s face turned red.
