Lei Qian nodded along. "I think so too. Yu Miaomiao is no fool; why would she send a bunch of rookies to snatch our child? These people must be sent here by another faction." After he finished speaking, Lei Qian couldn’t help but smile wryly. What was going on with the people at the safe base? Why couldn’t they allow him and Bai iyue to live in peace? It was fine if they wanted to climb higher and make a base which would beco impenetrable; he and Bai iyue had no such desires; they just wanted to live in peace.
The door of the interrogation room in the basent pulled open, and the leader of the Lei family’s special guards stepped out. He first bowed his head in front of Lei Qian and then turned to look at Bai iyue. Though Bai iyue noticed the complicated emotions in the eyes of Chen Changfan, the man still lowered his head and gave her a stiff nod before turning to look at Lei Qian.
"Master Qian," he greeted in a stern yet soft voice.
"What’s going on?" Lei Qian peered at the three n who were tied up naked and beaten black and blue. He didn’t have any sympathy for the three of them because they were the ones who first made the move. If they were not caught yesterday, the ones who would have been in trouble would be him and Bai iyue, as well as their families and the survivors of this base.
Chen Changfan turned and looked at the three n. His expression beca subtle, and he replied, "These three people were sent here by soone nad Fox. He asked them to steal the formula for how Madam Yan prepares her soil. They have been keeping an eye on the greenhouse all these days and making sure that they would be able to get the formula. Last night, as well, they tried to sneak in close to the greenhouse when Madam Yan went to the greenhouse to water the plants."
"They wanted to sneak inside and see the materials inside the sacks that are placed inside the greenhouse, and see what Madam Yan uses to prepare her farming lands. But they ended up getting the full blast of Master ng’s uncontrolled powers and ended up..." he trailed off without saying the rest of the words, but Bai iyue didn’t need Chen Changfan to say anything else.
She glanced at the three n and sneered coldly. Very good. She thought that Fox had given up on her mother’s secret, but he was still eyeing the formula of the soil after finding out what was different about the soil that her mother used to grow vegetables. She thought of how that man had always eyed the greenhouse whenever he got the ti to visit the safe base that she had created and scoffed.
Turning to look at Lei Qian, she said to him, "Go and dump these people in the safe area where Fox is staying; there is no need for you to send him any supplies for the ti being. Let him starve for a few days..." She paused and added, "Send that ancestor away as well. I have had enough of these two."
She was going to let Fu Wan stay at the safe base, but she heard that Fu Wan had made a fuss earlier this afternoon when she received the bill that she was supposed to pay. She even called Bai iyue a capitalist. Fine! Since that woman didn’t want to pay, she could leave.
"Okay, if that is what you want, then I will listen to you." Lei Qian naturally had no objection. He also heard about the good things that Fu Wan had been doing these past few days. A woman like her, it was better to send her away.
The two of them walked out of the basent, and as the two of them stepped out of the mansion, Lei Qian noticed Bai iyue looking at the mansion wistfully. There were worry lines on her face, and she looked quite concerned about sothing.
"What’s the matter?"
Staring at the tall mutated tree that had been tad by the neutralising powder that she had created, Bai iyue sighed. She said to Lei Qian, "When I ca here, I thought that this place was going to be truly peaceful. But it looks like it is impossible now that people have already found out about us. Maybe we need to continue looking for a place where we can live in seclusion."
"Are you afraid that they will cause trouble for us?"
Lei Qian raised his hand and caught Bai iyue’s hand in his own. His eyes were filled with distress when he thought about how Bai iyue just wanted to live a good life, but she could not even do that. Why were these people chasing after them? Why couldn’t they let them have their baby in peace? When Lei Qian thought about how Bai iyue just kept thinking about escaping from these people without bothering to fight back, he suddenly felt resentful in his heart.
All Bai iyue wanted was to live in peace. She was not even bothering anyone, and yet!
Bai iyue shook her head. She clenched Lei Qian’s hand tightly. The two of them walked down the path that led to the small garden behind their ho. "What is the point of getting scared? We have already experienced the scariest thing. From here on out, we will only see even more scary things. Terrible, horrifying—one that will make us wonder why we are even alive."
Lei Qian followed Bai iyue as he continued to walk next to her; with his hand in hers, he made sure that she was walking on firm ground and wouldn’t fall. He turned to look at Bai iyue and asked, "You speak as if you have already seen sothing terrible."
Bai iyue smiled; the trees were casting shadows on her face, making her smile look even sadder and lancholic, as if she were recalling sothing that made her heart hurt.
