Kahn and the others had all settled down for now, going about their usual business, recuperating and waiting for the right mont to arrive.
Unlike the calm on Kahn's side, however, Ozai's days were far from comfortable.
Ever since Iroh's defection, Ozai had dispatched countless elite soldiers to capture and hunt him down, yet all of them had failed.
Not only was Iroh still at large, but the frequent movent of troops within the Fire Nation had beco difficult to conceal.
Many citizens were already beginning to feel an inexplicable unease, and public sentint had started to waver.
Even so, Ozai showed no intention of giving up.
Instead, he continued dispatching more n, intending to conduct a full sweep.
There was no other choice.
Iroh was simply too important.
To Ozai, the threat Iroh posed alone far surpassed that of the Water Tribes and the Earth Kingdom.
Whenever he thought of this, Ozai's expression turned ashen, and his resentnt toward Iroh grew even stronger.
If he had known this would happen, he should have killed him outright back then.
Although he ground his teeth in fury, he also knew that even if ti could be turned back, the outco would not change.
Had he not thought of removing Iroh before?
Of course he had.
He simply could not do it.
When he first seized the throne, his foundation had been unstable, and he had lacked the ability to deal with Iroh.
After his power beca secure, Iroh had always behaved with perfect submission, never giving Ozai a handle or an opportunity to act.
Moreover, Iroh's own strength had been at its peak.
He was seasoned, experienced, and assassination attempts against him were useless.
Thinking back now, how could Iroh's behavior be called cowardice or incompetence?
It had clearly been endurance.
He had hidden his fangs and claws, cast aside all glory and dignity, and disguised himself as harmless trash.
He had allowed himself to be mocked and humiliated, and in doing so, he had actually deceived Ozai into believing he had truly beco useless.
And while Ozai had been smug, Iroh had been watching him silently from behind like a predator, ready to deliver a fatal blow at any mont.
Ozai suddenly felt as though he had fallen into an ice cellar, every hair on his body standing on end.
After so many years, he finally rembered the fear of being dominated by Iroh.
He was his older brother, the undefeated Dragon of the West, the formidable opponent Ozai had never once defeated since childhood.
And now, Iroh had finally dropped his disguise and pointed his spear at him.
Thinking of this, Ozai was montarily shaken.
The instant he realized his own disgraceful emotion, terror turned into fury.
In the end, everything transford into endless hatred and killing intent.
His rage-filled eyes stared into the empty air, as though looking at Iroh sowhere unknown, while a curse-like voice repeated in his heart.
Iroh.
Iroh!
After an unknown length of ti, Ozai finally cald down.
At that mont, a report was delivered as usual.
"Your Majesty, this is today's report."
"I understand."
"You may leave."
Ozai took the docunt and examined it carefully.
It was not a military secret or a matter of state.
It was a surveillance report on Kahn.
After news of Iroh's defection reached him, Ozai had ordered Kahn placed under strict surveillance, with everything observed recorded and reported to him.
Such treatnt alone was enough to show the importance Ozai placed on Kahn.
According to the report, Kahn had shown no abnormalities during this period.
He seed unaware of Iroh's defection and appeared to have no connection with him.
"But is that truly the case…?"
Ozai stared at the unremarkable report, his eyes full of suspicion.
Iroh had managed to disguise himself under Ozai's nose for years without being discovered.
As Iroh's disciple, had Kahn also learned that skill?
At this point, Ozai no longer wanted to gamble on that possibility.
"Kahn…"
"Sigh."
"What a pity."
Ozai's soft sigh echoed through the empty palace.
And within that sigh, there seed to be a different aning.
—
Compared to the calm before the storm in the capital, Iroh's side was undoubtedly having a much harder ti.
After temporarily escaping pursuit once again, Iroh t Kahn in the Spirit World and sighed.
"Ozai is truly aggressive."
At first, when facing pursuit, Iroh had still been able to handle it with ease.
But now, as the number of pursuers continued to increase, even he inevitably found it difficult to move freely.
In truth, if he had only needed to hide, it would have been fine.
But his current purpose was to contact every possible force, which ant he had to keep moving.
In that process, it was inevitable that traces of his movents would be exposed, giving Ozai's troops chances to cling to his trail.
From his appearance, Iroh was now covered in mud and looked rather disheveled from being chased.
However, after observing him for a while, Kahn found no obvious injuries on Iroh and finally relaxed.
He smiled.
"It seems Ozai is still very afraid of you."
"I heard from Azula that in order to free up forces to pursue you, even the original overseas military plan was affected and stalled quite a bit."
"He should be afraid."
Iroh was not surprised.
This was not arrogance, but confidence.
Then he beca cheerful again and chuckled.
"Fortunately, our plan is still proceeding smoothly."
"Especially the letters I sent earlier."
"They have recently received definite replies, which is the greatest surprise of this period."
Iroh's words imdiately aroused Kahn's curiosity.
What could be important enough for even Iroh to call it a surprise?
"What happened?"
Iroh smiled and said,
"Simply put, I found us a few helpers."
"A few helpers?"
"Are they powerful?"
Kahn asked curiously.
Helpers capable of surprising Iroh could not possibly be ordinary.
Combining various pieces of information, Kahn had a bold guess about their strength, but he could not be certain.
Sure enough, Iroh stroked his beard and revealed the answer.
"The friends I invited are all firebending masters of this era."
"All firebending masters?!"
Kahn imdiately exclaid.
Although he had already made the boldest guess, hearing Iroh confirm it still left him deeply shocked.
Firebending masters were not common in this world.
One had to understand that even the Fire Nation, currently the strongest nation, only had Iroh and Jeong Jeong as publicly known firebending masters.
Across the entire world, the number of people who could be called firebending masters probably did not even reach double digits.
Even Kahn currently only dared to call himself half a firebending master.
Thinking of this, Kahn's face imdiately lit up with joy.
This was definitely excellent news.
With so many firebending masters assisting them, the success rate of their operation would undoubtedly take a great step forward.
After chatting for a while longer, Kahn smiled and bid farewell to Iroh.
He left the Spirit World, lay on his bed, and could not stop imagining Iroh leading his firebending master reinforcents into battle, wreaking havoc.
Eventually, he drifted into a sweet dream.
In his dream, he stood alongside Iroh and several other firebending masters, looking down disdainfully at Ozai beneath their feet, while countless soldiers lay fallen across the ground.
Kahn laughed triumphantly in the dream.
"We are so strong."
However, at that mont, Ozai, who was beneath his feet, suddenly smiled eerily.
His entire body erupted with power, and he punched Kahn's head apart.
"!"
Kahn suddenly shot upright from his bed, drenched in cold sweat.
But before he could think about the strangeness of the dream, he felt a sudden pang in his heart, and alarms scread through his mind.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
In the next second, countless arrows burst through the doors and windows, shooting in from every direction and instantly riddling the entire room like a beehive.
