Liu Xi smiled and patted Zi Yan's shoulder, signaling her to ascend the altar and take the fruit. The Dragon Phoenix Origin Fruit lay before them—truly a prize gained without effort.
Zi Yan nodded. She did not refuse. Here, she was the only one of the Ancient Void Dragon bloodline; only she could fully draw out the fruit's power.
Suddenly, a surge of killing intent erupted beside Liu Xi, followed by Qing Lin's startled cry.
"Young Master, Zi Yan—be careful! The Ancient Heaven Serpent has gone berserk after seeing the Dragon Phoenix Origin Fruit. I can barely suppress—roar!"
Liu Xi and Zi Yan imdiately turned toward her, but where Qing Lin had been standing, there was now only a massive, crimson-scaled serpent with nine snarling heads.
"Ancient Heaven Serpent?!"
Liu Xi's eyes narrowed. Earlier, its agitation had already irritated him—now it truly angered him. This creature had gotten far too bold. It seed he'd have to teach it a lesson, then throw it into the Dragon Tomb and let Qing Lin refine it completely.
He stepped in front of Zi Yan, his gaze cold. In truth, despite the Heaven Serpent's overwhelming aura, its power was no more than that of an 8-Star or 9-Star Dou Zun. Otherwise, Qing Lin could never have held it at bay for so long. As a disembodied soul, it had already lost most of its physical and Dou Qi strength.
Liu Xi, on the other hand, though only a 6-Star Dou Zun, possessed Spiritual Power close to the Heaven Realm, several Soul Techniques designed to restrain spirits, and the terrifying azure fla born from rging multiple Heavenly Flas.
Seeing Liu Xi's resolve, Zi Yan hesitated briefly before glaring fiercely at the serpent. "Big Brother, let's subdue it together. The Dragon Phoenix Origin Fruit isn't going anywhere."
"Good. I'll go first."
Liu Xi's tone was calm but sharp. He stepped forward, Dou Qi surging, his figure flashing as he charged at the Ancient Heaven Serpent.
The colossal serpent's nine heads rose high, eighteen crimson eyes glinting with hatred. It had no consciousness—only the primal urge to kill, driven by its ancient enmity toward the Void Dragons and Heavenly Phoenixes whose power surrounded this place.
And now, Liu Xi stood between it and the fruit. Then he would be crushed.
Roar! Roar! Roar!
Nine deafening bellows split the air. The serpent's power erupted like a storm, shaking the heavens as its killing intent rolled toward Liu Xi like a crimson tide.
Liu Xi only frowned. The sound was deafening and annoying, but the malice within couldn't shake his mind.
In an instant, he closed the distance, coming within three zhang of the serpent. A massive tail swept toward him, wind howling as it threatened to flatten everything in its path.
Liu Xi smirked. "So predictable." He leapt lightly, dodging with ease.
Boom!
The tail slamd into the ground, carving out a massive crater, while Liu Xi hovered midair as one of the serpent's heads lunged upward to bite him.
Liu Xi's feet tapped the air, dodging swiftly between the snapping jaws. When the final head lunged, azure flas burst forth, enveloping him in blazing light.
With a clenched fist, his flas erupted like a cyclone, crashing down upon the serpent's lower jaw.
Boom!
The serpent's upper body and eight remaining heads were slamd backward, smashing heavily into the ground. The head that had taken the brunt of the blow was blackened and cracked, white smoke curling from its scales, though its spiritual energy was already trying to nd the damage.
Roar! Roar! Roar!
But the serpent had no shortage of heads. Even losing one, eight remained, and its ferocity seed endless. It reared back up again, still ready to fight.
Liu Xi, shrouded in azure flas, remained cold-eyed. His fingers swiftly ford a seal as torrents of Spiritual Power surged from his brow, gathering before him.
"Soul Mystic Palm!"
A massive, translucent palm coalesced midair and slamd down upon the serpent.
Boom!
The blow crushed it once again into the earth.
Crack! Thud!
Though the serpent's killing intent blazed, it was helpless before Liu Xi. Without flesh or Dou Qi, it was nothing more than a lingering spirit—and Liu Xi's specialty was subduing souls.
Were it not for the fact that this spirit would one day beco Qing Lin's strength, Liu Xi would have erased it completely, letting it scatter to nothingness.
Seeing the Ancient Heaven Serpent pinned down, Zi Yan finally relaxed. That savage aura earlier had truly startled her.
Liu Xi continued pressing the attack, each strike draining the serpent's Spiritual Power. Its scales shattered and reford again and again until its energy waned, its rage fading into exhaustion.
Yet none of them noticed that threads of Spiritual Power were seeping from the serpent's body, spreading quietly through the space around them.
The ancient beastly aura stirred the residual souls that slumbered nearby—those of the two ancient rulers who had perished here. The scattered fragnts began to converge.
Liu Xi sensed the strange energy shift—and then light burst from the remains of the Ancient Heavenly Phoenix. A majestic, spectral phoenix slowly took form, its body woven from divine flas.
Screech!
Its clear, piercing cry shook the heavens. Though its eyes were void of awareness, pure killing intent filled the space. Wings spread wide, regal and overwhelming, its aura swept across the plains like a tidal wave.
Then, a thunderous dragon roar resounded—deeper, more powerful—crushing the phoenix's cry beneath its might.
From the Ancient Void Dragon's remains, a colossal spectral dragon erged, its translucent form radiating authority and pressure far greater than the phoenix's.
The contrast was staggering—two ancient sovereigns whose battle had once torn the heavens, now facing each other again even in death.
"The Ancestral Souls… have awakened?" Zi Yan whispered blankly. She knew the technique of summoning ancestral souls, yet this—this was no summoning. They had awoken on their own.
Liu Xi glanced between the dragon, the phoenix, and the serpent that still writhed on the ground. A thought flashed through his mind. 'The Heaven Serpent's rampage must have disturbed the Ancestral Souls of the Ancient Void Dragon and the Ancient Heavenly Phoenix!'
Now the Ancient Heaven Serpent's ferocity reached its peak, and facing its two ancient neses—their ancient feud was about to reignite.
