In the blink of an eye, the entire ground was swallowed by shards of ice, not even the slightest crack left exposed. A sudden and overwhelmingly powerful strike—so unstoppable that even though the others had yet to make a move, this had already beco a one-sided crushing battle.
Inside Alden’s forge space, Drake watched the scene unfold, unable to hide his excitent. "So strong! Are those the people Silvanus was talking about?"
Alden nodded. "That’s right, they’re all very strong..."
People stumbled and fell in all directions as the spreading ice shards grew wildly, forming a thick layer of frost. It even gnawed at their own flesh, turning them into ice and snow as well.
At the sa ti, Kirin suddenly shook his massive head. His four hooves dug into the ground as he gathered montum, then he charged straight forward!
"Boom! Bang!" In an instant, the towering gate that had seed impossible to breach was sent flying by Kirin’s headlong slam! The gate tilted and crashed to one side, its finely crafted, expensive tal now so badly warped that its original shape was no longer recognizable.
Kirin shook his head wildly, snorting a powerful breath through his nostrils. Just then, the entire space seed to slow down. A dense plu of black smoke suddenly condensed behind him and shot straight toward Kirin! Its form quickly took shape—a creature resembling a lion, yet with a pair of pitch-black wings, horns upon its head, and a body cloaked in deep black, crisscrossed with red-veined patterns.
It was even slightly larger than Kirin. In an instant, it crashed down toward Kirin like a falling bomb!
At the sa ti, a shield suddenly appeared in front of Kirin, like a dense layer of ice rapidly forming over the newly erged monster. Yet the streams of black smoke emanating from the creature were like flas, lting away the frost.
"That’s Matthew’s Lumin," Nana said coldly. No one could understand how a being of light like Lumin had been raised by Matthew into such a twisted form.
At the sa mont, Nerio suddenly leapt off Kirin’s back. Waves of water swirled around him like shimring woven currents. He raised a hand, and a massive iceberg appeared in an instant before hurtling straight toward Lumin—everything happening in the blink of an eye!
But just as the enormous iceberg was about to crash down upon Lumin, a burst of dazzling light suddenly appeared and shot downward, forming a barrier between Kirin and Lumin while simultaneously blocking Nerio’s gigantic iceberg!
"Boom!"
The violent shock of the two forces colliding made the ground tremble fiercely, like an earthquake.
"Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle!" Imdiately after ca the sound of water evaporating. The shards of ice scattered by the massive iceberg began to vaporize under the scorching heat of the light.
Nerio and the others could not help but look over. At that mont, a girl had appeared on the highest steps of the temple. She wore a magnificent golden outfit, beautiful as if from a dream.
Her silver hair fluttered in the wind. In her hand, she held a radiant staff adorned with five light stones the size of dove eggs, now emitting a brilliance too dazzling to ignore.
"The Saintess—it’s the Saintess!"
"Please grant us your blessing, Saintess!"
The commoners and the Church’s mage believers instantly abandoned the battle without hesitation, bowing their heads and dropping to their knees upon the ground, continuously calling out Mira’s na.
Mira did not make them wait long. She raised her staff high and proclaid in a clear voice, "O God above, grant Your power—the light that can illuminate the entire continent and sweep away all darkness in its path!"
"Boom! Rumble!"
The mont Mira’s resounding voice fell silent, a violent tremor erupted from the sky above the Church. The roiling black clouds finally converged, forming the image of sothing like a black hole slowly opening its maw.
At the sa ti, a pillar of black smoke descended directly from above, instantly engulfing the entire temple of the Church.
"AAAA!"
"No! What is happening?!"
"Help! Aaaaa!"
Screams rose one after another. Mira stared in horror at the scene below. In the blink of an eye, nearly all the Church’s mages and the ordinary citizens began to transform. Their bodies twisted out of human shape; their skin turned pitch-black like raven feathers, cracking open and oozing viscous fluid. Their limbs stretched grotesquely—arms lengthening down to their feet, legs pulling thin and elongated—until their entire forms beca gaunt and unnatural.
Even their skulls shifted, their faces warping into hideous masks. Their mouths split wide open, their eyeballs bulging so large that their faces seed to consist of nothing but eyes and gaping jaws.
Before long, bloodthirsty growls replaced the terrified screams.
Mira could not believe what she was seeing. "Impossible..."
But she could not even finish her words, because she heard the strangeness in her own voice. Lowering her gaze in stunned disbelief, she saw that her hands had also changed... no, they were no longer hands at all.
"Clang!"
The precious staff fell to the ground. The Saintess had beco a violently grotesque form, her tentacles writhing and crawling, growing without cease, nearly impossible to stop. Only now, unlike before, they had lost their light and were stained with a strange, ominous darkness.
"Boom! Crash!" At the sa ti, the black hole in the sky began to expand violently. Explosive energy rippled outward, forming rings of smoke that spread endlessly into the distance. From the very center of the black hole, shadow creatures started to erge. They bore different shapes, yet without exception, all of them were grotesque and bloodthirsty.
Lumin seed to receive an enormous surge of energy, becoming even more terrifying in an instant. Together with the army descending from the sky, the battle imdiately turned into sothing unimaginable. For a mont, it was impossible to tell which side was light and which was darkness, who stood for justice and who for evil.
"Kill!"
Nana roared, and her army of mages charged forward at the sa ti, fighting recklessly without holding anything back. The light no longer belonged to them, but magic was still here. They would fight until the flux within them ran dry—until they could no longer even lift their swords!
"Who do they think they’re using darkness against?!" Asta roared arrogantly as his horns, tail, and wings grew back.
A demon—but at this point, no one even cared anymore. Because they all understood where the true danger ca from.
Under the na of purification, it had instead beco an opportunity to poison all the common people.
Clusters of diamonds burst up from the ground, their sharp tips moving as if with minds of their own, slashing and piercing anything they could reach.
The disparity in strength was imnse, yet the Church’s current advantage lay in sheer numbers.
Shadow creatures poured endlessly from the black hole, as though determined to drown everything beneath a tide of bodies.
Nick burned a wave of charging shadow creatures to ashes with fire, but it was still too slow. If there were light, a single strike would have made huge swaths of them vanish instantly!
"Reinforcents—I need reinforcents!" Nick shouted.
At that mont, a dazzling diamond suddenly streaked past his eyes and shot straight toward the ground. But before it could land, it shattered completely into countless motes of light.
The shadow creatures lunged forward at the sa ti, instantly swallowing everything in sight.
"Can’t you be reliable for once?!" Nick roared—but before he could finish, countless spikes thrust up from the ground, skewering the shadow creatures into long, grotesque strings of impaled flesh.
The diamonds glittered even without light, reflecting fractured, distorted forms in their facets.
Nick could not help but raise a thumbs-up. Though Asta might be hopeless in love, on the battlefield he was unquestionably a war god.
