Alex asked why the man had tried to swindle him on the rent and why he had behaved that way after he saw Harold.
Harold explained that the man had so connections with the owner of the building and was in charge of renting the place out to people.
The usual rent fee was 30 million Zen every year, and five million for other fees, which was a total of 35 million Zen when one wanted to move in. But because he wasn’t able to beco a mage and always envied mages, the man would try to get a large amount from whoever ca to get a place as long as they were a mage.
And even if they found out later on, there was nothing they could do since the agreent was already signed and they could only continue to pay the sa amount each year.
But a lot of complaints had been reported by scamd tenants, so the middle-aged man had been lying low for so ti now. He would frequently scam people if no one was watching but as long as soone like Harold reported him again after catching him, he would imdiately be fired and most likely asked to compensate the victim.
Which was why he had reluctantly accepted even when Alex declared a price that was lower than the original rent amount.
"Oh, I see." Alex nodded after understanding the matter. He was seriously considering going to report, he would be able to get his money back and even get compensated.
A grin unknowingly ford on his face.
Harold noticed the look on Alex’s face and could tell what the kid was thinking.
"Kid, don’t go too far. Paying a price lower than the usual rent amount is already enough to make that guy fall into a long period of sickness, no need to finish him off." Harold said, pulling Alex out of his thoughts where he was brewing an evil plan of payback.
"Hehehe," Alex chuckled with an embarrassed face but didn’t promise anything.
He glanced at Harold, the man was an Archmage and from his appearance, he didn’t feel like a regular mage to Alex. Why was an Archmage, who was the leader of an explorer group, living inside an apartnt in a shared building?
He could easily get a mansion of his own.
"You must be wondering why I stay in this neighbourhood? Well, I’m mostly on missions and rarely stay ho, wouldn’t it be a waste to waste more rent on a more lavish place?" Harold said with a smirk.
At this mont, the middle-aged man returned with so papers and asked Alex to fill in the required spaces.
After reading and making sure he wasn’t being scamd, Alex filled it and handed it back to the man.
The man left again after taking back the papers.
"So you’re an explorer as well?" Harold asked after he was once again left with Alex. Although Alex was a Core mage, he felt that this red-haired kid wasn’t ordinary.
"Yes," Alex replied and took out his Explorer ID.
"You’ve been an explorer for just a year, are you in an explorer group? I could allow you to join my group, you would be able to earn more if you joined a group since you aren’t strong enough yet." Old man Harold proposed with a smile.
"Thanks for the offer but I’m already in an explorer group," Alex replied.
Harold was stunned and asked which explorer group Alex belonged to.
"The Rising Wave explorer group," Alex stated.
Old man Harold fell silent for a mont as he thought if he had heard of such an explorer group before.
"I don’t recall knowing any explorer group with such a na in Brandvel City." He voiced out with curiosity.
"That’s because they aren’t in Brandvel City, it’s an explorer group in Balon City," Alex explained.
Old man Harold "..."
"Balon City? I know Balon City, it’s quite far from here. But I don’t see the issue in joining my group if your first group isn’t here." Old man Harold said.
"Is it possible to join two groups?" Alex asked, honestly curious.
"Yes, as long as the two groups are not in the sa City. Balon City is miles away from here so there’s a chance that you won’t be able to et them unless you go back to Balon City.
Before then, do you plan to be a lone wolf?" Old man Harold inford.
Alex felt that those words made sense and said that he would think about it.
"All right then, I’ll be off now, take care of yourself." Old man Harold patted Alex on the right shoulder before leaving.
Alex was left alone in the living room for a bit before the middle-aged man returned with two copies of the papers that Alex had filled out earlier.
"Where’s Sir Harold?" He asked as he handed a copy to Alex.
"He left, he said he had other things to attend to," Alex replied calmly.
"Damn that old mage," the middle-aged man cursed under his breath, feeling extrely resentful that Harold had ruined his business.
He brought out a device that was twice the size of a phone and asked Alex to swipe his card on it.
Alex took out his Union card and swiped, 22,000,000 Zen was deducted from his card. The middle-aged man then grudgingly handed him a set of keys before proceeding to leave the place.
Before he left, he told Alex that there was an account number sowhere in the papers he had given him. He should transfer the sum of 20 million Zen to that account on the sa day every year if he didn’t want to be kicked out.
Alex was now left alone in his new place. He went to sit on one of the sofas in the living room, sinking into its softness.
Now he didn’t have to worry about soone coming to look for him when he was out at night! He now had his own place.
For the rest of the day, Alex did so shopping for his new place.
He got new sets of clothes, shoes, and so decorative items that he found to his liking.
At night, he took a cab and toured Brandvel City, searching for the perfect spot that he would bring Ellie for their date.
And just like that, the day passed and it was Tuesday.
He ended up not creating his second Saint rank spell yesterday, he planned to do it today after returning from classes.
Alex got ready and left for the magic university very early in the morning. He arrived at the gates of the university on his magic scooter and was allowed entry after showing his student ID; so other students had also arrived at the sa ti as him.
After passing through, Alex drove straight to the lecture building, he encountered Eric on the way.
The boy jumped at Alex with tears imdiately after seeing him.
"Bro, where did you disappear to yesterday? I couldn’t find you anywhere." He cried out.
Alex dodged him and explained that he had moved to a new place and was no longer living in the university dorm.
"What? And you didn’t inform ? I thought we were close!" Eric lanted, looking like a broken-hearted maiden.
Alex "..."
What’s wrong with this kid?
"Why were you looking for ?" He asked as they walked toward the lecture hall.
"You have no idea how difficult it was yesterday, that girl from earlier ca looking for you and since she couldn’t find you, she ca after ." Eric sobbed.
"Which girl?"
