A return to civilized society ant that there would undoubtedly be unscrupulous occurrences.
It was the nature of humanity that in tis of tension and civil unrest, a frivolous few would arise to take advantage of the chaos.
That was true when the Blessed were first given powers. And it was true now that the Evolved were trying to find their place in the world.
A group of n dressed in grey hoods and masks rushed out of a building while carrying duffel bags.
At first sight, they were far from ordinary. They carried military-grade weaponry on their sides, and two were clearly cybernetically augnted.
A black van was already parked in front of the building with the side doors already pulled open.
The n began loading themselves into the car and prepared to make a hasty exit.
"Not so fast, evildoers!"
A man descended from the sky, clad in an outfit of brilliantly colored spandex.
His cape was just a hair too short for it to be considered adult-sized, but the way that it billowed in the wind was perfectly majestic.
His voice, while not deep enough to be threatening, was still not quite prepubescent.
"I don't know what kind of person considers robbing safety deposit boxes when society is just getting restarted, but make no mistake, the lot of you are going-"
"Shoot this asshole!"
"Hey!"
One of the n lifted up his weapon and fired without another thought.
The caped man in the air tilted his body slightly and let the blast pass him by.
Just like he had seen in movies.
It was a cool visual, and he hoped to god that his secret caraman had gotten it on film.
But the blast didn't just disperse because he avoided it.
The beam of energy kept going and hit a traffic light post, sending it flying off into a fleet of oncoming cars.
"Whoops..." The hero muttered.
He shook his head and prepared to apprehend the dreadful criminals.
As he flew at them, the entire crew began to open fire.
Just like he practiced at ho, he weaved his body in and out of the line of fire.
'I'm doing it, I'm doing it, I'm doing it... SHIT!'
To our valiant hero's credit, he was in fact 'doing it' for quite so ti. And even ca rather close to the villains.
However, a well-placed shot from one of their cybernetic eyes knocked him out of the sky.
However, these augntations were military grade.
As such, the blast not only knocked him clear out of the sky, but it also threw him into a large oil tanker minding it's business on the street.
The evolved must've possessed quite a sturdy body underneath all of that spandex, because he actually managed to lift the tanker off its wheels.
It struck the side of a nearby building, and the resulting explosion rattled nearly four city blocks.
The panic was imdiate.
Screams of panicked civilians filled the sky.
People on the streets scattered like roaches with the lights cut on, trying to get as far away from the explosion as possible.
A half-naked man, covered in tattered spandex, stumbled out of the fire.
He stumbled around in horror as he looked at all of the destruction that had been caused in such a short amount of ti.
Cars had been flipped with people still inside. He counted at least twenty people who were dead or seriously injured.
He froze. He couldn't think.
His feet felt like they were tied down with blocks of concrete.
"Don't fucking move!"
In an instant, a trio of figures clad in black tactical gear appeared around him.
Before the hero knew what was happening, he was knocked onto the ground and being forcefully handcuffed.
Finally, his mind snapped into focus.
He struggled against his restraints, but to no avail. "H-Hey, what're you doing?! I'm not one of the robbers, I was just-"
"Shut up! You have the right to remain silent and I pray to fucking god you use it!" A woman snapped.
All of a sudden, the group was under heavy fire from the bank robbers.
But before any of the projectiles could cause any actual harm, a wall of red feathers appeared to shield the group.
This gave them more than enough ti to draw their weapons and defend themselves.
"Boss-Lady!" The woman smiled as she looked up.
"Not your boss anymore, Simone, but it's good to see you too."
The hero strained his neck to look towards the new voice.
Above him was a woman suspended on large and imposing red wings.
He recognized her almost instantly.
"Appreciate the assist, but you're supposed to be a civilian now, rember?" One of the n pointed out. "We can't let you help us apprehend the suspects."
Anna held up her hands in surrender. "Sure, Dom. We'll be strictly on cleanup."
"We?"
As if to answer the lieutenant's question, the clear blue sky overhead suddenly rumbled as gray clouds were pulled from across the heavens.
Currents of cyan colored lightning ran through the clouds like ons of potential catastrophe.
However, they never fell upon the land.
Instead, what ca down was a virtual monsoon of water like an ocean fallen from the sky.
It doused the flas raging from the blast while Anna flew off to aid survivors.
Her telekinesis was so advanced that she could lift several people out of the rubble without even breaking a sweat.
She appeared to possess so breath of dical knowledge as well, because she expertly picked out which individuals were in too critical of a condition to be moved.
Surprisingly, she pulled out her phone and began dialing up a phone number.
It was... certainly an odd choice, but one could only hope that whoever she was calling was an indispensable resource.
"They're pulling out!"
One of the tactical team mbers pointed towards the robbers who were piling into the van and making their getaway.
Though the streets were a ss, their vehicle was heavily armored. They were able to plow through the downed cars like they were toys.
However, they didn't get very far before a large creature fell from the sky.
It was a large black serpent that could easily be mistaken for the Nordic Jormungandr.
The armored van had been plowing through flipped cars on the street, but when it ca to the creature's black scales, it couldn't penetrate them even if it tried. And try they did.
The car slamd into the serpent's body at full speed.
When the car crashed and ca to a standstill, the serpent ca undone and reverted to a mass of shadows.
Falling from the sky in it's place was one of the most familiar young n in Arica.
And for so reason, the day's would-be hero could almost swear he was staring at him...
