Adam clenched his fists, his anger barely under control.
"Say one more word about my son, and you’ll regret it, Gray."
Gray shrugged and leaned back in his chair, waiting for the judge to arrive.
Just then, the door of the room opened, and Sophia walked inside.
Gray Winston was stunned to see Sophia.
She was the top lawyer in New York, and her schedule was packed.
He tried to contact her, but her assistant told her that Sophia was busy.
He even offered to pay double, but the assistant insisted that Sophia was busy, so he could only give for the ti being.
But what was she doing here?
Sophia walked in with confidence, her heels clicking against the floor.
She ignored Gray Winston and went straight to Adam and his family.
"Sorry for making you wait," she said, smiling a little.
Adam shook his head. "No, we’re just glad you’re here."
Gray Winston narrowed his eyes. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. "Sophia?" he finally spoke. "What are you doing here?"
Sophia turned to him, her face calm. "I’m representing Adam Waters."
Gray Winston’s face twisted in shock.
"What?!" he shouted, slamming his hand on the table. "You’re his lawyer?"
Sophia smirked. "That’s right."
Gray’s lawyer leaned in, whispering, "Mr. Winston, calm down. We can still win."
But Gray was too imrsed in his emotion and didn’t hear his lawyer’s warning at all.
Instead, he looked at Sophia in horror and muttered,
"How...how is this possible? Why did she reject my offer but agree to represent this low-inco family? They have nothing!"
Sophia crossed her arms and looked at Gray like he was a silly child.
"Mr. Winston, I don’t choose my clients based on money," she said. "I choose them based on justice."
However, only she knew the truth.
Gray’s face turned red.
"Justice? Hah! This is business, Sophia! You made a mistake choosing them over !"
Sophia chuckled. "Oh really? Let’s see about that."
The judge finally walked in, and everyone stood up. The hearing started.
The courtroom fell silent as the judge took his seat.
He adjusted his glasses and glanced at the docunts before him.
"Let’s begin. Mr. Waters, you have filed a lawsuit against Mr. Winston for scamming you. Please present your case."
Sophia stood up, her voice steady.
"Your Honor, my client, Adam Waters, was falsely accused of stealing car parts from Mr. Winston’s vehicle.
As a result, he lost his job and was forced to pay $50,000 in so-called damages. However, we have proof that these accusations were completely false."
Gray’s lawyer, Mr. Hendricks, smirked.
"Objection, Your Honor. The accusations are not false. Mr. Winston had every right to seek compensation for his lost property.
The stolen parts were never recovered, and my client suffered a great loss."
The judge nodded. "Proceed, Ms. Sophia."
Sophia took a deep breath and walked toward the center of the courtroom.
"Mr. Winston visited the repair shop where my client worked for a full week. During that ti, he constantly found faults with the service, nitpicking about minor things.
Then, out of nowhere, he accused my client of stealing car parts. Your Honor, if my client were truly guilty, why would Mr. Winston continue visiting the shop for a whole week? Why not leave after the first visit?"
Gray shifted in his seat but said nothing.
Sophia continued,
"Furthermore, Mr. Winston has never provided any proof that Adam took anything. There were no witnesses, no surveillance footage, and no recovered stolen parts.
Yet, my client was fired imdiately, without any proper investigation. Isn’t it strange, Your Honor, that a man can lose everything based on one person’s words?"
Mr. Hendricks cleared his throat and stood up.
"Your Honor, while it is true that there is no direct footage of the theft, my client is a well-respected businessman. He has no reason to lie.
Moreover, the parts in question were rare and expensive. If Mr. Waters didn’t steal them, then where did they go?
My client’s car was working perfectly fine before visiting the repair shop. Afterward, it suddenly had missing parts. The coincidence is too great to ignore."
Sophia turned toward him.
"That is precisely my point, Mr. Hendricks. You claim it’s a coincidence, but coincidences don’t count as evidence. If there is no proof, how can you destroy an innocent man’s life over suspicion alone?"
She then faced the judge.
"Your Honor, we have another piece of evidence. Mark, the owner of the repair shop, fired Adam the mont Mr. Winston accused him, fearing damage to his business reputation.
But my team has investigated Mark’s records. We found that Mr. Winston and Mark had multiple financial dealings before this incident. Doesn’t that seem suspicious?"
Gasps filled the courtroom.
Gray’s face turned pale. "Lies! I barely know Mark!"
Sophia smirked. "Really? Because we have bank transfers showing otherwise."
The judge examined the docunts. He frowned.
"Mr. Winston, would you care to explain these transactions?"
Gray stamred, but no words ca out. He was trapped.
The judge sighed.
"With this new evidence, I find Mr. Winston’s claims untrustworthy. I rule in favor of Adam Waters..."
"Please wait, your honor." Mr. Hendricks intervened. "I still have so evidence to prove the innocence of my client."
With that, he passed a paper to the judge and explained,
"We checked Mr. Adam Waters’s account just a few days ago and saw that he suddenly had an extra $450,000 in his account.
For a man who is abandoned by his father and has a salary package of $48000 per year. It is indeed suspicious."
The judge glanced at the bank records suspiciously.
Mr. Hendrick continued,
"Surprisingly, this isn’t the first ti Mr. Adam has tried to steal. 26 years ago, my honor, Mr. Adam was abandoned by his family due to committing a theft at his own house."
Adam fell as if he had fallen into an ice cellar. His body slowly turned cold, and his breathing quickened slightly.
The mories he never dared to reminisce started to flash in his mind.
