"I’ve been taking those for years," I continue, my voice rising a little despite how dry my throat feels. "Since Mia beca our housekeeper."

My stomach twists and turns.
"To blend what in?" I ask, my voice sharper now.
Because sothing about the way she’s saying it....It’s getting under my skin.
"Oh, I wouldn’t know that," she shrugs lightly. "I don’t know how the magic works, baby."
The way she says baby makes my jaw tighten.
"So how would you know anything ?" I push, my voice rising again. "Mia would never do that to ."
I shake my head slightly, even though it makes my head throb.
"She’s like my mom. She....she wouldn’t...."
"Oh, please cut that crap," she snaps, rolling her eyes.
"Anyone can do anything for money."
Her lips curl slightly.
"And I heard she did it for money though."
"...Heard from who?" I ask imdiately.
My voice is tight now but there’s sothing creeping in underneath it, sothing I don’t like.
"Why would she even do that?" I continue before she can answer. "And who would put her up to it?"
My breathing picks up slightly.
"Who would pay her for that?"
I shake my head again, more forcefully this ti.
"What would they even gain from my death? It doesn’t even make any sense at all r."
She watches the whole ti patient and almost amused....like she’s waiting for to catch up.
"Oh, I dunno..." she hums.
Her tone is light, but her eyes.....her eyes are sharp and focus nd sothing in them now.
Sothing that makes my chest tighten again.
"But," she adds, tilting her head slightly.
"You can ask your husband though."
I frown.
"What do you an by that?"
My voice drops.
"What does my husband have to do with this?"
She shrugs casually.
"Uhmm... I dunno," she says, dragging it out again.
"Maybe the fact that he paid your brother’s housekeeper to slowly slowly poison you?"
For a second....Everything goes quiet, like completely quiet, like my ears just stopped working.
"That’s a bloody lie.....another bloody lie."
My voice cos out lower this ti, it sounds small even to my own ears.
"He wouldn’t do that."
I shake my head again.

My chest rises and falls harder.

Sothing twists painfully in my chest.

My voice echoes in the room, louder than I expected. I shake my head again, faster now.

Even as I say it....Sothing in hesitates for a second and I hate it.
"Are you sure about that, princess?" she asks softly, clearly mocking .
I clench my jaw.
"Trace back," she continues, stepping closer again....her voice dropping. Almost like she’s explaining sothing simple to a child.
"Why do you think all your morning sickness and fatigue stopped?"
My stomach tightens instantly.
"I’m guessing it stopped, right?"
I don’t answer her I just stare at her.
Because.....Because it did, it did stop.
"That’s because you stopped taking the smoothies," she says....then continues.
"She wasn’t in the sa house as you anymore when you married your husband."
My throat feels dry now.
"So she couldn’t keep feeding it to you."

She leans in just a little.
"Your body started draining the excess toxins out."
My heart starts pounding.
"That’s why you probably feel more energized these days," she adds.
"Less tired and less sick."
Her lips curl again.
"You dumb dumb girl..."
I swallow hard.
"You didn’t stop to think why all your symptoms slowly disappeared?"
My breathing feels off now and more uneven.
"Or reduced at least," she adds lightly.
"That’s if you’re still feeling so."
"That’s a lie," I say again.
But it doesn’t sound the sa or doesn’t feel the sa.
"How do you even know all this? How can I trust any word you say?"
She watches for a mont, then she smiles.
"I’ll humor you today," she says.

My jaw tightens....i want to look away but I don’t...i can’t.
"I have a knack for finding things," she continues, her voice softer now.

She straightens slightly.

Her eyes lock onto mine.

"And I got... interested in your husband," she says, almost like she’s rembering sothing pleasant. "When I found out he killed my brother. So I started digging. Looking for sothing....anything.....to break him."
She smiles slowly.
"Imagine my surprise when I stumbled on that."
She leans closer clearly teasing . "So... how do you feel now? Not so strong and mouthy anymore, are you?"
I force a scoff. "I don’t believe you. Not a word you have said. Get the hell away from ."
She rolls her eyes. "You clown. I’d show you proof, but you’re not worth it. It’s not like you’re getting out of here or anything like that ."
