She rolls her eyes. "You clown. I’d show you proof, but you’re not worth it. It’s not like you’re getting out of here."
"Then why am I still alive?"
"Because it doesn’t suit his purpose yet," she says lightly. "When it does... you’re done."
She’s still talking, still standing there like she owns the air I breathe. Her voice keeps going, but I’m not really hearing all of it anymore.
Because sothing else cuts through, faint sound at first ...a shuffle.
Then....a thud sowhere down the hall.
She pauses mid-sentence tilting her head slightly.
The guards shift almost imdiately, alert as the sound cos again.
"What is that?" she snaps, her tone sharpening instantly. She turns to the guards, eyes narrowing.
"Go check."
They don’t hesitate as two of them move out quickly, weapons ready, disappearing down the hall.
The door stays open behind them And for a mont.....It’s just and her.
The silence stretches, thick and heavy as she doesn’t take her eyes off , not even for a second....almsot like she’s trying to read sothing in my face.
Seconds pass, then more as the seconds gradually turn into minutes.
Her brows pull together slightly.
"Why are they taking so long?" she mutters, more to herself than to .
She waits another beat.....then another, still nothing. No sign of them coming back.
That’s when sothing shifts in her expression.....suspicion. She exhales sharply clearly annoyed.
"Stay here," she snaps...like I have anywhere to go...I’m tied up bitch!.
Then she turns and heads out, her steps are quick now as the sound of her heels fades down the hall.
And just like that.....I’m completely alone for the first ti since I got heree. I just wait as seconds stretch and every tiny sound feels amplified.
Then....Footsteps coming back.
My head lifts slightly, my chest tightening and then she steps back in.....But not the sa way she left.....There’s a gun pressed to her head and her body is stiff and frozen.
And behind her....is Lucas.....for a second...i don’t even believe it as my brain struggles to catch up....to process what I’m seeing.
Lucas....is Actually here and not sothing I imagined or sothing I hoped for.
Real and alive....standing right there. My breath leaves in a shaky exhale I didn’t even realize I was holding as relief hits so hard it almost hurts and My body sags against the ropes without aning to.
And then... The tears co out of nowhere, uuncontrollable tears.
I don’t even try to stop them....i can’t. Everything I’ve been holding in....every second of fear, anger, pain....
It all crashes down at once as behind him Noah steps in. The mont his eyes land on ....Everything on his face changes.
"Oh my God..."
His voice breaks as he moves fast, straight to .
"I’m so sorry," he says, already reaching for the ropes around my wrists.
"I’m so sorry we didn’t co earlier..."
His hands are shaking slightly as he works the ropes.
"I’m so sorry, princess."
That word....it breaks sothing in completely as I let out an ugly sob.
The ropes loosen slowly, each second feels too long. My arms ache as blood starts rushing back into them., pins and needles shooting through my fingers but I don’t care.
I don’t care about anything except the fact that they’re here.
They found .... the last rope finally gives and the mont it does.... Ny body gives out and I fall forward, straight into Noah. He catches instantly as his arms wrap around , holding tight and I break completely.... My body shaking with it as Full-body sobs ripping out of and I clutch onto him like he’s the only thing keeping grounded.
Because right now...He is as he rubs my back slowly in a clamly.
"I’ve got you," he murmurs softly. "You’re okay... we’ve got you now..."
But I’m not okay....nit really and I think he knows that. He just keeps holding anyway for as long as he can.
But then....He pulls back slightly reluctantly
"I’d love to hold you like this forever," he says quietly.
"But we can’t stay."
His tone shifts... more serious now.
"We have to go before they bring reinforcents."
I nod weakly. My legs feel like they might give out, but I force myself to stand as Noah keeps a steady grip on , helping up.
My body sways slightly, everything still feels off but I stay upright.
I have to.
That’s when I see her again.
Lucas is still standing there, gun pressed to her head.
She’s frozen, completely stil as for once.... She doesn’t look so confident and so in conttol.
Good.
Lucas glances at briefly.
"Good to see you, kiddo."
His voice is steady but I can hear sothing under it. Relief.
I nod...I can’t speak. Not yet, the tears are still falling and burning down my face.
Lucas’s grip on the gun tightens slightly. And I can see he’s ready.....ready to end her, right here and now.
A bullet to the head....part of wants that, wants her gone and wants it finished. But another part...a darker part....wants sothing else.Sothing that hurts.
My eyes stay on her and on her face....on the sa mouth that taunted on the sa eyes that watched my driver die and Sothing cold settles in my chest as I take a step forward.
My body still weak and shaky but I move anyway.
"Wait," I say.
My voice cos out rough.
Lucas pauses and looks at .
"This one is mine," I say.
My gaze doesn’t leave her.
"I’ll take care of this one."
A small smile pulls at lips, i Rember the way she stood there while he died.
And now....
Now it’s just her.....standing right there and Not so untouchable anymore.
I know I’m not at my best....i know I’m weak but right now....I don’t care, I take another step closer. Lookin her dead in the eyes.
"Let’s fight."
