She slept deeply, the warm air from the air conditioner blowing gently. After finishing the IV drip, the nurse ca over and gently pulled out the needle from her hand, yet didn’t manage to wake her.
The color of her face had slowly improved a bit, her long hair scattered on the white sheets. Her little nose was upturned, and her long eyelashes were like two small fans, casting a charming shadow over her eye sockets.
She was just like a sleeping princess, noble and beautiful, yet appeared vulnerable. Beckett Wright watched her not waking up and went to ask the nurse.
"Why has she slept for so long? Is there sothing wrong with her body that you haven’t checked? Should we check again?"
Beckett asked worriedly, nowadays hospitals often have issues; even though this is the best hospital, he always feels a bit uneasy.
"She’s fine, just tired. If you’re not assured, shall I wake her up?"
The nurse looked at him with a smile, this man’s heroic deeds had spread throughout the whole nurse station. Everyone was guessing how many tis he had done it to cause such a ***large accumulation?
"No need, I’m relieved if she’s fine."
Beckett smiled awkwardly and turned back to the ward.
That sleep was deep and long, as if she had slept for an entire century. When Avery Jane’s eyes slowly opened, her eyelids felt heavy as if filled with lead.
This wasn’t the small servant room at Hughes Manor, clean and bright, carrying a light scent of disinfectant and a sll similar to dicine.
She knew these slls well, she often stayed around Wenyard Cooper and wandered around the hospital. It was the sll of the hospital.
"Avery Jane, you’re awake?" Beckett watched as Avery Jane slowly opened her eyes, finally setting down his worried heart, she was finally awake, she slept for almost a whole day.
"Mr. Wright? What happened to ?" Avery Jane looked at Beckett, her mind felt like it was stuffed full of cotton, unable to recall anything.
"I went to Mr. Hughes’ house to deliver this year’s Grant’s souvenirs to you, and entering your room found you burning with fever unconscious, so I hurriedly sent you to the hospital."
Beckett spoke gently, his gaze filled with affectionate concern, Avery Jane instinctively dodged a little.
"Thank you."
Avery Jane’s voice was hoarse beyond imagination, Beckett quickly answered positively and walked to the table to pour her a cup of warm water.
She accepted it, drinking it down in big gulps, it seed the fever had evaporated all the moisture from her body.
After a few sips, she handed the cup back to Beckett: "Can I have another cup?"
Beckett smiled, she really was adorable, even asking for a cup of water so cautiously. Perhaps it was her nature, or she’d been scared by that seemingly very tyrannical man, left uneasy even when drinking water.
Beckett continued to pour her another cup of warm water. Avery Jane drank a bit slower this ti, Beckett being a very considerate man, the water he poured was neither cold nor hot, just the right temperature.
"Avery Jane, how did you end up this way? I told you if you face any difficulties, you can tell ." Beckett didn’t know how to start speaking but felt he couldn’t just let Avery Jane continue living like this, she seed as fragile as a child unable to protect herself.
"It’s nothing, I just..." Avery Jane lowered her head, should she tell others she was fine?
But saying such things was incredibly ridiculous; she was clearly wounded deeply, obviously struggling, clearly devoid of basic freedom and dignity.
Freedom and dignity are supposed to be what everyone should inherently possess; only those who lost them would realize their value.
"Avery Jane, why don’t you leave him? Since he can’t take good care of you, since he doesn’t love you, and I heard he’s going to get married soon."
Hughes Family being such an influential and famous family, every move would attract countless speculations. Combining with Arthur Yates’ widespread news of his daughter peacefully nurturing her pregnancy, soon to marry into the Hughes family, it wasn’t hard for Beckett to know these things.
Perhaps truly exhausted, or because of being weakened from the illness, Avery Jane curled her long legs, burying her little face into her knees, gloomily saying: "Can’t leave..."
She had once tried to escape, she was already at the airport but couldn’t leave, she probably couldn’t even get onboard the plane, hence Nora Thompson let her leave with a completely new identity.
