"Hunter, quickly end your life. Do not dare hesitate, or you know the consequences of doing so!" the woman yelled before moving her tongue, causing a tiny pill to appear between her teeth.
Tsk!
"People like you don’t deserve the option of suicide," Darius clicked his tongue, killing intent flickering in his eyes. With a re thought, an intense pressure prevented the woman’s teeth from closing. Only then did he take a careful look at her, causing the panel to flicker as a ssage appeared before him.
[Harriet Campbell: Acupoint Qi Realm, Assassin Guild, harms others, personality distorted since childhood by evil thoughts and possesses absolute loyalty to the guild]
[Kill her to gain two hundred years of power]
Hiss!
Darius drew in a breath of cold air.
’Jackpot.’
He had been sowhat uneasy about his cultivation stagnating while he waited for the ingredients needed to refine the pill. If not for the protection of the Pavilion, he would not have cared in the slightest and might have already used that accumulated power.
With a face filled with joy, he turned to look at the young man, only for his expression to beco ugly.
’Weird, even now there’s no reaction from the panel?’
He had thought that after participating in an assassination attempt, both of them would be labeled as evil. However, it seed that, in the System’s eyes, the young man was nowhere near as evil as the woman.
Shaking his head, Darius ignored such complicated matters. Sooner or later, he would understand how the System truly operated. He casually waved his hand, and a slash of energy shot forth with a swooshing sound. The woman’s eyes instantly beca lifeless. A thin red line appeared across her neck before Darius willed it, and her body suddenly ignited into flas.
He was using the sa ignition technique from alchemy, but with the enhancent provided by his cultivation and the System, its power was more than enough to reduce the entire body to ashes. If she had been an ordinary person, he would never have done such a thing. However, in his eyes, an evil individual deserved such an ending. There wasn’t the slightest trace of sympathy in his gaze.
"Equality between n and won," Darius chuckled.
That was probably what others would think he believed in. In reality, he believed in no such thing. What he believed in was equity...absolute justice.
When the young man witnessed this scene, his entire body trembled. The pill hidden between his teeth fell to the ground. He was so frightened that he barely dared to breathe, let alone attempt suicide. In the first place, such an option had never truly crossed his mind. While it was true that he had been poisoned and his cultivation would stagnate from this day onward, his life was still far too precious. Dying this young without accomplishing anything left a bitter taste in his mouth.
"I... I wi—"
The young man dropped to his knees and was about to beg for rcy when Darius interrupted him.
"Say no more. Your words are aningless. Just die."
At that mont, Darius laughed before bringing down the hand he had raised to attack.
"You know what? I changed my mind."
’Father, I’m sorry for failing you.’
The young man had already accepted his fate and closed his eyes. However, upon hearing Darius’s next words, disbelief filled his face. He stared blankly at the man before him.
Did he hear correctly?
He wasn’t going to be killed?
The young man was overjoyed, but he didn’t dare utter a single word.
Darius rely shook his head. In truth, he had never intended to kill the young man. Since the panel had shown no reaction, he wasn’t about to execute soone without reason. He rely wanted to frighten him enough that he would never accept such jobs again. However, just as he was thinking this, his vision blurred and another panel appeared before him.
"Ding! Potential Guardian detected. The Host should do everything possible to recruit him into the Pavilion and make him one of its Guardians. Otherwise, this opportunity will be lost forever."
"Ding! Ding!"
The System repeated the notification three tis before additional information appeared before him, causing his face to twitch uncontrollably.
’Life is truly unfair. Truly worldly, as they say.’
Darius sighed.
The information was so shocking that even he felt his scalp tingle.
Josh Burke: Potential Guardian!
Talent: SSS Awakening, True Sword Intent Spirit Root (Rarity: Z), Dormant
Physique: True Primordial Sword Body, Dormant
Description: All swords shall submit. The heavens shall split, and the earth shall shatter.
State: His father was killed by the Imperial Family. Since then, the young man’s entire life has revolved around revenge. However, during the awakening ceremony, his talent was asured as only A-rank. Although formidable, there was no way he could avenge his father with such talent, so he eventually joined the dark side.
Note: Has not killed innocents. Perfect candidate for a Guardian. Poisoned.
Darius felt his heart tremble.
He had seen this kind of template so many tis that he had grown numb to it.
’Main character story. Terrifyingly strong indeed.’
He could easily deduce what would happen next. At so point, Josh would be forced to kill innocents, but his morals would not allow it. He would flee from the Assassin Guild, only to be hunted down and nearly killed. At that critical mont, his dormant talent would awaken, revealing his true potential.
Sigh...
Darius shook his head once more.
’Truly unfair. And here I am, stuck with a Pavilion.’
For a brief mont, he genuinely felt his confidence waver. However, when he recalled the panel and the power it granted him, his spirits rose once more.
So what if he was a prodigy?
He still needed ti to cultivate.
As for Darius, all he needed to do was kill evil individuals and absorb power. It was cultivation in its purest and simplest form.
Chuckling, Darius suddenly heard the System’s voice in his ears.
"Host should not mock the Strongest Pavilion System. While Josh may reach great heights, the Host shall reach the pinnacle. Countless people will compete for a single opportunity to beco a mber of the Pavilion. While Josh may beco experienced in the sword, the Host shall beco proficient in all paths, shattering the dreams of prodigies across the world."
Darius had expected a response from the System, but this ti he did not argue. In fact, he found the System’s words surprisingly accurate.
He had simply read too many novels in his previous life, causing his view of this world to differ from reality. At the end of the day, everyone had their own path to walk.
And the Pavilion was his.
At that mont, a light flashed through Darius’s eyes as he fully accepted the path before him.
