He grimly pressed the answer button.
The person who had been persistently making the call finally got it answered and spoke very rudely.
"Why haven’t you been answering the phone? Acting in a drama, could it really be so busy that you don’t even have ti to take a call?" Father Sampton’s voice barely contained his anger, "Why are you helping Bright Sampton? He should be studying, not playing gas. Don’t you realize that he is ruining his future by doing this? Why did you give him your card? Are you deliberately going against the family?"
"Just to question her, so you keep calling her again and again?" Jas Black’s voice was as cold as ice freshly chipped from an icehouse on a winter day, "Don’t you know she works hard? Don’t you know she’s busy with work?"
"Is this Jas Black?" Father Sampton, recognizing the intimidating voice, instinctively lowered his, hurriedly picking up the mobile phone to check who he had called from his family.
After confirming the call went out to Jane Sampson, not Jas Black, Father Sampton then asked, "Is she at the guard team tonight?"
"I think, this is my wife’s business, and I don’t need to report to you," Jas Black said. "If you’re calling her just to question her about Bright Sampton, then I can clearly tell you, her helping Bright Sampton is with my consent and approval. Bright Sampton is an adult, he knows what he wants, and nobody else needs to manage his life for him, not even you as his father."
Father Sampton could say such questioning and accusing words to Jane Sampson, but he couldn’t say them to Jas Black.
Father Sampton had not expected that Jas Black would defend Jane to this extent, even getting involved in Bright Sampton’s matters and letting Jane do as she pleased.
"Yes, Bright Sampton is an adult, he will decide what he wants to do, then let him determine by his own abilities whether or not he can succeed. But Jane, as his sister, shouldn’t intervene to help him; it would prevent him from truly understanding his own capabilities." Harsher words Father Sampton could only keep to himself.
It was Jas Black who answered the phone, not Jane Sampson.
"My wife has the right to do whatever she wants to do. As her husband, I won’t interfere, and nobody else has the right or the qualifications to interfere. My wife, I spoil her, I indulge her, whatever she wants to do, she does. So, you likewise have no right to criticize her," Jas Black said quite ungraciously.
He almost bluntly told Father Sampton that in his view, Father Sampton wasn’t truly his father-in-law; Jas Black didn’t plan to respect Father Sampton. In Jas Black’s view, only Jane Sampson, his wife, had the right to speak.
Father Sampton choked, almost dropping the phone from his hand.
He gritted his teeth and said, "Then, surely I still have the right to expect my daughter to take a call, right? Let Jane Sampson answer the phone, I still have sothing to discuss with her."
"She has the right to refuse," Jas Black said, adding, "I also have the right to refuse on her behalf."
After saying that, Jas Black was ready to hang up this annoying phone call.
However, his finger was already on the hang-up button ready to press it when he suddenly stopped.
He suddenly spoke again.
"Don’t think about obtaining any undue advantages through Jane Sampson, nor think about using her, Mr. Sampton. I hope you understand, Jane Sampson is now my wife, Jas Black’s wife, and no longer your daughter of the Sampton Family."
