A casual complint, nothing serious, yet Jas Black heard it and inexplicably felt cheerful.
After a few exhausting days, the two of them went to bed early that night. Jane Sampson curled up in Jas Black’s arms like a lazy cat, and for once, she even snored for quite a while.
Jas Black woke up halfway through the night, listening to her in amusent for a while. Eventually, even he found it funny, so he adjusted the head of the person nestled in his arms and closed his eyes again.
Early the next morning, Jane Sampson was awakened by Jas Black’s kiss—though it ended at just a kiss.
"Good morning." Jane rubbed her bleary eyes and gently pushed Jas Black away. "You’re so annoying~"
"Ti to get up. Freshen up. I’ll arrange soone to take you back to the city district," Jas Black chuckled softly, then hauled her out of the bed.
Opening the window, the outside was a vast stretch of winter white. This year’s snowfall was even thicker than last year’s.
Jane Sampson stood by the window and glanced out. Seizing the mont while Jas Black wasn’t paying attention, she stretched her hand out to catch the snow, but as soon as it touched her palm, the snow lted into water from her warmth. The icy sensation made her grimace and shake her hand uncontrollably.
Hearing Jas Black’s approaching footsteps, she quickly shut the window and dashed over to his side. She reached out, touched his clothes, and with a cheeky tone murmured, "So chilly~"
Then she left a small wet mark on the hem of his clothes and dashed off to wash up.
Jas Black glanced down. How could he not know what she was up to?
He followed Jane Sampson into the bathroom, stood beside her, and said in a serious tone as she pretended not to notice him, "It’s cold. Stop opening the window to catch snow. If you get sick, I’ll ask Sister Tin to take you for an injection."
"..." Fine. He always had a way to keep her in check.
Jane Sampson pouted and replied with an "Oh," her guilty eyes darting toward his clothes before she burst out laughing, unable to hold it in any longer.
Early in the morning, and sohow it was absurdly full of joy.
Jas Black didn’t have ti to take Jane Sampson himself. After breakfast, he arranged for a car, and once Jane Sampson was seated, he leaned against the window to adjust her mask. In a low voice, he said, "On Lantern Festival night, we’ll have dinner with Grandma. After the al, we’ll return to the guard team. I’ll take you back to the city district the next day."
Jane Sampson nodded and replied, "Okay."
"Be good these few days. Don’t play in the snow. If you catch a cold, it’ll only be uncomfortable for yourself," Jas Black added another reminder.
"I promise!" Jane Sampson blinked and put on an exaggerated expression of attentiveness, as if she were sincerely absorbing every word he said.
Jas Black’s fingertip lightly grazed her eyes, his heart softening entirely before stepping back two paces to let the driver start the car.
Jane Sampson leaned against the car window, gently waving goodbye to the retreating Jas Black before refocusing her gaze. She glanced at the young team mber driving beside her and smiled at him when he happened to be looking her way.
"Sister-in-law, who would’ve thought our Chief sticks to you like glue," the young team mber chuckled. "Seeing all his reminders to you, he nearly worries himself sick like a dad. Sister-in-law, you should co more often to the guard team to keep our Chief company. All of us really like having you around."
Jane Sampson laughed so hard her eyes narrowed to slits. She was even tempted to record these words and play them back for Jas Black.
The young team mber dropped Jane Sampson off downstairs of the building. Jane returned ho, tidied up, changed into fresh clothes, and headed straight to the studio.
The studio hadn’t officially reopened for work yet. Most employees would co back on the sixteenth day of the new year, but when Jane Sampson arrived, only Rock Bell and a few employees scheduled for duty were there.
