Lucy Brisk’s hand was trembling more and more violently, standing there, her lips parted, but not a sound was made.
Rock Bell slamd his hand onto the tabletop, "Speak!"
Lucy Brisk was so startled that she couldn’t hold onto the information in her hand, and it fell to the ground, tears imdiately following suit.
"Sister Jane, I’m sorry, I’m sorry." Lucy Brisk cried out, apologizing repeatedly to Jane Sampson, "I was just possessed for a mont, Sister Jane, I’m sorry, I was wrong."
"It’s good that you still know how to apologize, still know you’re wrong, and still know to admit!" Rock Bell was so angry he wished he could give Lucy Brisk two slaps, to see if he could knock so sense into her brain.
Was her brain filled with gas?
Neither Rock Bell nor Jane Sampson asked Lucy Brisk why she did it; it was obvious that it was for money.
Jane Sampson also didn’t ask Lucy Brisk why she betrayed her for such little money; had she not been good to her?
At this point, asking these questions would be pointless.
Lucy Brisk did it; she simply did it.
Lucy Brisk was by her side, joking and laughing with her every day, calling her Sister Jane while secretly doing things to hurt her.
Betrayal is betrayal.
"Sister Jane, I really know I was wrong, I’m sorry, Sister Jane, I’m truly sorry." Lucy Brisk cried so much she could barely speak.
Lucy Brisk actually did regret it when she was doing these things.
Every ti she received money, looking at the incoming funds text ssage on her mobile phone, and seeing Jane Sampson working so hard, she truly regretted it.
But this regretful emotion only appeared when facing Jane Sampson.
When Jane Sampson finished work and went ho, she clocked off, took the money, and bought the designer bags and costics she’d wanted for a long ti, and the regret disappeared instantly.
She felt the pleasure of using big brand costics and carrying expensive bags, flaunting her life in Monts, seeing people continuously like her posts and leave comnts calling her a tycoon, envying her for using such expensive and good costics, and carrying such pricey bags.
This vanity spurred her on to seize new opportunities, repeating her betrayal of Jane Sampson both in action and thought.
Watching Lucy Brisk apologize repeatedly, Rock Bell sighed deeply, "If only you knew it would end this way, why did you do it in the first place? Do you know this is a cri?"
"I know." Lucy Brisk wasn’t legally illiterate; she knew what she did was breaking the law, yet the financial temptation often made her think maybe she wouldn’t get caught.
"You know it’s illegal, yet you still did it. Is earning money through honest work really that hard? For a bit of money, is it truly worth it?" Jane Sampson asked, though she never expected Lucy Brisk to answer her.
Not everyone has the integrity to rather be poor than steal.
"What do you plan to do with Lucy Brisk? Are you going to call the police?" Rock Bell also stopped looking at Lucy Brisk and instead asked Jane Sampson.
Upon hearing the word ’police’, Lucy Brisk’s legs gave way and she fell directly to the ground.
"Sister Jane..." Lucy Brisk reached out and tugged at Jane Sampson’s sleeve, her eyes full of pleading as she looked at Jane Sampson.
If the police were called, it would be over for her, her whole life would be ruined.
Jane Sampson looked at the despair in Lucy Brisk’s eyes, watched her pleading gaze, and sat there, without speaking for a long ti, as if she were pondering.
Jane Sampson rembered, during the chat when Lucy Brisk joined the work, she said she was the only child at ho, her parents were ordinary workers with low salaries, but she had never lacked food and clothing since childhood.
