"How much longer until we arrive?" Jas Black’s voice carried a hint of urgency; Jane Sampson had clearly fainted.
Just now, she must have been holding on with all her strength, so her consciousness wasn’t clear, but she’d kept a sliver of lucidity, yet now, judging from the limpness of her limbs, Jas Black was certain Jane had passed out.
Poor her, she was so delicate, yet outlasted everyone.
"20 minutes," the driver replied.
To Jas Black, even two minutes seed too slow. He held Jane tightly in one arm, at the sa ti, gently caressing the top of her head with his other hand, as if to soothe her, even though she had fainted.
He knew she couldn’t feel it, but he felt that sohow, it might give her a greater sense of security.
The nights in the northwest were fleeting; it only got dark at eight or nine o’clock. However, by nine in the morning, there was already a blazing sun.
When Jane opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was a swath of white and heard Jas Black’s voice.
"Mm, we’ve been at the hospital for several hours now. The doctor said there’s nothing serious. You should let uncle and grandfather know they don’t need to co over. I’ll bring her back to Capital Province tomorrow," Jas was on the phone with Oliver Black.
Jas Black had caused quite a stir in the Black Residence using a helicopter in the middle of the night to retrieve Jane from the northwest suffering from acute high altitude disease. Once Old Master Black heard, it naturally reached Oliver as well. Old Master Black, concerned for Jane, was discussing with Harper Black the possibility of visiting Jane at the wine market.
"Since you’ll be returning tomorrow, I’ll tell them not to go," Oliver humd in response. "Take good care of Jane the girl. She’s just a girl; don’t be harsh with her. Her body’s unwell now, and you can’t be harsh with her. If anything cos up, you have to talk things through with her. Won are especially sensitive and fragile when they’re ill. If you’re harsh with her now, I reckon by the ti you’re back, you’ll be a divorcee."
The corner of Jas Black’s mouth twitched almost imperceptibly. Was Oliver incapable of saying anything helpful? In dire need of a lesson?
On the other end, Old Master Black nodded along and said, "If Jas had Oliver’s realization, Jane and his child would probably be fetching soy sauce for by now! Oliver, when you have ti, you should teach him how to coddle his wife. He’s so clueless, clearly not a trait inherited from , the old man."
Jas heard what Old Master Black said but thought it best to pretend he hadn’t.
He turned around after hanging up the phone and unexpectedly collided with a pair of sparkling eyes. Unlike the silent ones from last night, these eyes, as always, were full of life.
"Awake?" Even though his voice was as calm as ever, inside, Jas Black genuinely let out a sigh of relief.
At last, she was awake. Seeing her bright eyes, now with a hint of a smile, he assud she must be feeling much better.
"How do you feel now? Any discomfort anywhere?" Jas Black sat on the edge of the bed and reached over to pour a cup of hot boiled water for Jane.
"Much better, my head isn’t as sore, and my heart doesn’t feel as heavy. Oh, and my nose is a bit clearer." Jane sat up, cradling the water cup curiously, moving closer and sniffling. "From yesterday, since I got in the car, my nose was blocked, unbearable."
"You deserve it, being so daring and running off to the northwest," Jas Black chastised Jane in annoyance, intending to lecture her further, but then Oliver’s words suddenly flashed through his mind.
He shouldn’t scold her, or else, when they got back, he might find himself without a wife.
Jas Black snorted. Oliver said won in sickness are sensitive and fragile, and if he was harsh again, would she bring up divorce once more?
