From beginning to end, not a single word was spoken.
Perhaps not even a gaze was exchanged.
Jane stood there, looking at the sliding door that had closed again, feeling as if her heart had sunk to the bottom of a valley.
A Jas Black who ignored her was even more terrifying than a Jas Black who incessantly scolded and criticized her.
She would rather he yelled at her a few tis.
After pushing Jane back inside the house, Jas extinguished the cigarette he had only smoked halfway and tossed it into the trash can. He stood on the balcony for a few more minutes, waiting until the sll of smoke on the balcony and on his clothes had dissipated, then he pushed open the door again.
When Jas returned to the living room, he thought Jane would be back at the dinner table, continuing her al, but in fact, there was no sign of anyone beside the dining table.
"Jane Sampson," Jas called out with a voice that was sowhat low and husky. Hearing no response, he went to look in the bedroom.
But the bedroom was empty.
He then went to the guest room, to the restroom, to the kitchen.
Yet, he had searched the entire house and had not seen Jane.
He hurriedly took out his mobile phone to call Jane, but then he realized her phone was on the tea table.
She wasn’t at ho, and she hadn’t taken her phone with her.
Jas’s heart suddenly panicked; he turned to look toward the doorway, indeed, the shoes she had worn today were no longer there.
Jas went back to the bedroom to open the cloakroom, and upon seeing nothing missing from before, he breathed a sigh of relief.
Grabbing the keys, Jas rushed out of the door and down the stairs.
He first searched around the residential community, but when he didn’t find her and saw her car was still in the garage, he then went outside the community, his eyes searching everywhere.
Until he reached the community entrance, Jas had not found Jane.
His heart sank slightly, and he was gripped by a fear he couldn’t even na.
Jas turned around and headed back to the security room at the community entrance.
"Excuse , have you seen my wife leaving the community earlier? Do you know which way she went?" Jas asked.
The security guard pointed ahead, "I saw her at the small grocery store ahead when I was returning from buying cigarettes just now. Just walk a little further ahead."
Jas thanked him and turned to run towards the small grocery store, and before he even entered, he saw Jane.
She was crouched under a street lamp, head lowered, seemingly focused on sothing, with the warm light of the street lamp enveloping her, yet she looked very lonely and pitiful.
"Jane," Jas walked hurriedly over and stopped beside her, "What are you doing?"
His voice trembled slightly and Jas didn’t even know what he had been afraid of before finding Jane.
But seeing her crouched under the street lamp looking unhappy, he genuinely felt a pang of heartache.
"I was waiting for you to co and take ho," Jane said, her voice low and her lips bitten.
"Why did you run out here alone?" Jas asked.
"I saw you smoking on the balcony and noticed your cigarette box was empty, so I thought I’d go down and buy you a pack of cigarettes, but I rushed out and forgot to bring my keys, and I left my phone at ho," Jane slowly rose to her feet, her eyes slightly reddened, "I was waiting for you to co and find , but I didn’t know if you would realize I wasn’t at ho, and if you did, I didn’t know whether you would co looking for ."
Jane carefully handed Jas the newly bought cigarettes, "Here, these are for you."
Seeing that Jas didn’t imdiately take them, she added, "I’m sorry, Jas. I know I was wrong. Please don’t be angry and ignore , okay? Otherwise, can you just scold ? I promise not to talk back, not even to talk back secretly in my head, and definitely not to curse you in my heart."
