He slid his foot under the quilt on Jane Sampson’s side and pulled it down a bit, revealing her face. Jas Black then bent down, gently kissed her forehead, and closed his eyes to rest.
Jane Sampson didn’t know exactly how long she had pretended to be asleep.
Maybe it was 30 minutes.
Or perhaps, one hour.
She knew Jas Black was pulling at her quilt, always worried that she might suffocate herself by sleeping this way.
But she had slept like this for over a decade; if she were going to suffocate, it would have happened a long ti ago.
She also knew that Jas Black had stolen a kiss.
A seemingly random kiss on her forehead.
Was it possible that before, when she was asleep, he had also sneakily kissed her like this?
Was it that if she hadn’t pretended to sleep today, she would have never known that when she was asleep, a man would sneak in such a kiss?
Listening to the soft breathing of the person beside her, Jane Sampson slowly sat up.
The room was dark, but she was so close to Jas Black’s face, so close that she could clearly see his features, even the distinctly long eyelashes.
The handso man not only had attractive facial features, but even his lashes were long and curled enough to inspire envy.
Imitating Jas Black’s action from just before he fell asleep, Jane lightly touched the corner of his mouth, then propped her cheek in her hand and stared straight at his sleeping face.
After watching for several minutes, Jane let out a soft sigh, her fingertip lightly brushed his lips, and she murmured under her breath.
"Jas Black, can you like Jane Sampson? Not as your wife?"
Jane’s voice was so low it was almost inaudible, "In this world, there’s only one Jane Sampson, but your wife, over the long stretch of several decades in the future, might change her na and beco soone else."
After saying that, Jane sighed softly, then pulled back the quilt and lay down again, carefully nestling by Jas Black’s side, trying to get as close as possible without touching him with her hands.
Only...
Jane had just settled down when suddenly a hand lightly and weakly caressed her cheek.
Jane’s body shuddered violently.
"I can."
She heard the man who was supposedly asleep say this in a raspy voice next to her ear.
"Jas Black, you were pretending to sleep!" Jane shot up, startled, and looked at Jas with horror, noticing only then that his eyes were open, "That’s so despicable of you!"
"I am a defender. With all your kissing and touching, I would wake up to such a commotion unless I were dead," Jas Black snorted. "I don’t need to stoop to such despicable levels as pretending to sleep."
"Who kissed and touched?!" Jane couldn’t even bring herself to look at him, "Who pretended to sleep?!"
"The more guilty soone feels, the louder they argue," Jas Black followed suit and sat up, his legs directly pinning down Jane, who was trying to flee the bed, effectively trapping her on the bed with no escape.
"Jane Sampson, tell , what are you really afraid of?" Jas raised his voice slightly, "Just now, I said I can like only you, Jane Sampson. But I still need to tell you, Jas Black’s wife, in this lifeti, can only be you. Even if there’s a future spanning one hundred years, it’ll still be you, only you."
