The first to hear the sound, as he was preparing to go to school and passed by Peter Gingery’s room doorway, was Jas Black. He rembered that when he entered the room, the first thing that ca to his mind was, "This little miss from next door really knows how to stir things up."
Jane Sampson once again pretended not to hear Jas teasing her and glanced at the alarm clock on the bedhead cabinet.
She got excited all over again.
"Jas, it’s twelve o’clock! It’s twelve o’clock!"
This Valentine’s Day was especially significant and morable for Jane Sampson, which was why she was so excited all evening.
It was her first Valentine’s Day, and also the first she had spent with Jas.
"Hmm," Jas nodded, just as he was about to speak about the gift, Jane beat him to it.
"Jas, I’ve prepared a gift for you! I’m going to give it to you now! Close your eyes, and don’t you dare peek until I say you can open them!" Jane jumped around and ran up to Jas, waving her hand in front of his eyes to urge him, "Hurry up and close your eyes!"
Jas raised an eyebrow and, as Jane wished, closed his eyes.
"Don’t peek now!" Jane reminded him again, unsure, and waved her hand in front of him again, "I’m testing you, guess how many fingers I’m holding up."
Without even thinking, Jas replied, "A fist."
Jane blinked, looked at Jas who clearly had his eyes closed, then at her own clenched fist, and felt frustrated.
"I guessed right." Once Jane fell silent, Jas knew he had guessed correctly. He didn’t fully understand the character of the girl in front of him, but he had mostly figured her out.
"Anyway, I didn’t say you could open your eyes, so you shouldn’t!" Jane grudgingly pulled her hand back and then constantly turned to check on Jas, taking over a minute before she went to the cloakroom to fetch the watch.
After she returned to Jas’s side, she thought for a mont and said, "You still can’t open them."
While speaking, she grabbed Jas’s right hand and personally put the watch on him.
Seeing how perfectly it fit his wrist, Jane couldn’t help but smugly smirk; she was clever, having adjusted it at the specialty counter using another watch from Jas’s ho.
After fitting the watch on Jas, Jane decided to tease a bit and deliberately asked, "Guess what I got you?"
The mont he felt the cold touch on his wrist, Jas had already guessed what it was.
But, enjoying Jane’s good mood in teasing him, Jas unusually played along with her joke.
"If it’s a leaf painting, I’m definitely throwing it away," Jas said.
Although she knew Jas was teasing her, Jane still laughed heartily, very happy, and then lightly tapped on Jas’s eyelids, "You can open your eyes now!"
The next second, Jas’s eyelashes trembled lightly, and he slowly opened his eyes.
The first thing he saw wasn’t the item on his wrist but Jane’s radiantly smiling face.
She was laughing joyously, like a carefree child, her eyes sparkling with stars, clear, only for his face. Such a smiling face was captured by Jas and then kept in his heartland.
"Do you like it?" Jane sat in front of Jas, her face full of anticipation as she asked.
