Mrs. Wang gave him a look, and he imdiately shut up.
Mrs. Wang reprimanded him, then inquired in detail from the young nurse, "Has she perford any surgeries independently?"
The nurse gave a small smile. "I’m not sure about that. She should have... I guess!"
Old Wang rolled his eyes and lay down, being petulant again, leaving Mrs. Wang no choice but to placate him.
As the two nurses were leaving, they murmured quietly, "I guess he’ll be transferred to another hospital; we probably can’t wait for Dr. Bo anymore."
The other nurse’s voice was even lower. "Don’t jump to conclusions. You never know!"
In the ward, Mrs. Wang settled her husband, then called a bodyguard over. "This afternoon, find out if any important people have co to the hospital, what kind of surgery they’re having, and tell quietly when you know."
The bodyguard nodded. "Okay."
Only then did Mrs. Wang return.
anwhile, Gu Anxi went straight into the ergency room. After making her assessnt, she ordered, "Prepare for surgery."
Another doctor sowhat disagreed. "The patient is severely injured and has lost a lot of blood... Shouldn’t we wait a bit?"
Gu Anxi pointed to a film. "Look here. It’s getting closer and closer to the ventricle. Every second ans risking a life."
She understood the other doctor’s point. If the patient died naturally from such a severe injury, it would have nothing to do with Yunxi Hospital. But once on the operating table, there could be disputes, and the patient’s social status was not low.
After speaking, Gu Anxi glanced at the doctor, her eyes penetrating.
The doctor still didn’t look optimistic. He opened his mouth, intending to speak. As the director of the surgery departnt, he felt it necessary to make things clear to her: Dr. Bo wasn’t here, and she couldn’t act recklessly just because she was young.
"If anything goes wrong, I’ll take full responsibility," Gu Anxi said calmly, then looked at the nurse. "Get ready."
She usually didn’t talk much, but when she spoke now with a stern expression, it seed... very much like when Dr. Bo was around.
The nurse imdiately perked up. "Yes!"
Gu Anxi changed into her surgical gown and disinfected, her mind filled with the image of the man’s injuries.
So similar to what she had once experienced. Just a hair’s breadth from the ventricle. The only way was to try; any delay would an death. Her uncle, when he saved her back then, must have felt just as she did now!
Gu Anxi entered the operating room, extrely calm.
Anesthesia.
Surgery.
"Hemostat. Apply pressure... Insufficient blood supply. Transfuse 500cc of blood," she commanded calmly, her hands moving ceaselessly.
Director Hao, who had initially been pessimistic, was stunned. He had always been slightly indignant; Dr. Bo usually entrusted the surgery departnt to him when away. But now, it had been given to a young slip of a girl instead. He... couldn’t accept it.
But looking at the scene now, this young girl was clearly handling everything with ease!
Director Hao silently moved forward. "I’ll assist."
Gu Anxi’s voice was calm. "The ventricle is slightly damaged. I’m suturing it now. Director Hao, you monitor his other conditions."
Director Hao gasped. Suturing the heart valve? How could that be possible without decades of practice? This young girl is brave and ticulous, but such a technically demanding procedure?
At this point, he cast aside his reservations and proactively said, "Dr. Gu, this... How about I do it? I’ll take full responsibility if anything happens."
Gu Anxi said softly, "Let do it. The patient’s condition is quite dangerous right now."
Director Hao glanced at the data, and his heart sank...
"It’s fine. Continue applying pressure," Gu Anxi said softly, then began performing cardiac massage. Her technique, her familiarity, her calm deanor—it all left Director Hao utterly dumbfounded.
Is this really a young girl who has only been learning under Dr. Bo for half a year? He wouldn’t believe it even if he died! They had toiled through eight years of study plus twenty years of clinical practice, and yet... they were outshone by soone who had studied for only six months.
It wasn’t just him; the other nurses and assistants were all stunned too.
"Don’t lose focus. The patient’s life is in our hands." Gu Anxi extended her hand. "Suture."
Director Hao watched quietly, swallowing hard, feeling incredibly envious.
If only he possessed such skill!
Half an hour later, Gu Anxi looked up. "Close the cavity."
She kept her eye on the data. "Continue to transfuse 2,000cc of blood. Apply pressure moderately."
Director Hao ca over personally. After a mont, his face lit up with elation. "We’ve got it! We’ve got it!"
Gu Anxi smiled. "Alright. Observe for half an hour."
Exiting the operating room, she let out a long breath.
In just two short hours, the sheer speed of life and death... She could imagine her uncle’s state of mind every ti he perford surgery. Every single ti. She still rembered the first ti her uncle had forced her to incise a blood vessel; she had fainted. Her uncle had said she was a natural with a scalpel, that she would co to enjoy the sound of incising a blood vessel. Yes, she had grown to like it.
Gu Anxi took a shower and walked to the end of the corridor, where there was a window. Outside, there was a blue sky with white clouds. Her uncle had said that occasionally, pigeons would appear there. He used to stand there for a while after finishing a surgery.
"It’s nothing special," Gu Anxi sighed.
She just missed her uncle.
「anwhile, in a top-tier ward of Yunxi Hospital」
A bodyguard quietly ca in and whispered a few words to Mrs. Wang.
Mrs. Wang raised her eyes. "Is it true? She was the chief surgeon?"
"Yes. The situation was critical. No one else dared to operate, but she did, and the surgery was over in two hours," the bodyguard reported dutifully.
Mrs. Wang nodded. "You may leave."
After the bodyguard left, she looked at her husband.
That grumpy old man. Old Wang hadn’t been like this when he was young. He had been passionate, impulsive, and had loved her so much that he fought tooth and nail to be with her, regardless of their differing statuses... Rembering the past, Mrs. Wang smiled faintly, then sat alone on the sofa and continued reading her French book.
「At three in the afternoon」
Gu Anxi arrived on ti. Grumpy Old Wang was awake and eating. A young nurse was carefully feeding him, spoonful by spoonful, but he kept complaining that his wife wasn’t personally taking care of him.
Gu Anxi watched him make a ss while simply trying to drink soup. It was clear Grumpy Old Wang was deliberately making things difficult. So, she quietly whispered sothing to the nurse. The nurse seed surprised but still did as instructed.
After a mont, the nurse returned with a baby bottle filled with fish soup and handed it to Old Wang.
Old Wang was taken aback and was about to lose his temper. "I’m not a baby! I don’t need this."
"Many elderly people use these; they’re quite handy for ho care," Gu Anxi said, smiling sweetly. "You don’t have to use it, unless you can drink your soup properly by yourself without dirtying the blanket or your patient gown."
Grumpy Old Wang shot her a glare. "Who says I can’t? And you’re not welco here, by the way."
Gu Anxi chuckled and leaned against the bed. "As it happens, I now own twenty percent of the shares in this hospital, so I can stand wherever I please. Angry? If you’re angry, drink your fish soup. All the Vitamin C in the world won’t help if you don’t drink your soup, you know."
Old Wang took several large gulps. "I’ll drink it just to show you!"
"That’s a good boy," Gu Anxi said, smiling. "Isn’t this much better? Why make things difficult for others and suffer yourself in the process? What’s the point?"
Old Wang’s face flushed, and he felt rather awkward, unable to back down gracefully. After stewing for a mont, he finally played his trump card: "If you keep this up, I... I’ll have to take my Speed dicine rescue heart pill again!"
