"So... yeah. I have nothing," Laz said as he sat there at the small cafe with Jill, sipping a coffee. Jill had so sort of fruity drink and was looking around while Laz racked his brain to co up with so way to do sothing. While he was originally thinking to check this place out and see if the rumors were true, that was only because he was looking for sothing, anything, to focus on.
He was getting stronger which really was the only thing A’ruya had told him to focus on, but as for how to proceed and what to do with that strength, he had no idea. HIs targets were still out of reach, not having any clue where his parents were or his grandpa. What was more, they didn’t know where he was either which lead to a vicious cycle of self doubt for Laz.
’Maybe they ca to try to find ? Maybe they are dead and they tried to contact grandpa but because he was taken and I left, there was no where to send the ssage to?’
These doubts plagued Laz’s mind, but it wasn’t enough to stop him in his tracks or make him doubt himself. He knew he made the right call all those years ago and had already made peace about it. But despite that, the doubts remained and Laz was thinking they probably always would. That was just the way doubts worked.
"You’re not allowed to get yourself arrested," Jill casually pointed out, knowing that Laz was thinking back to his original plan.
"But it would work..."
"No. It wouldn’t," Jill shot back, scanning the area.
Laz watched her doing this and thought about the way she spoke to him and couldn’t help but smile. Her ti with the princess and the attendants had done her a world of good. She was stronger, more confident and had an opinion she didn’t mind expressing. She was more like a partner now than a little girl that needed Laz’s protection. Even when at rest, her eyes never stopped looking for enemies, sothing she had learned with the attendants she had spent ti with.
Looking at her from across the table and thinking about when he found her, dressed in that stupid yellow onesee, small and malnourished, Laz finally felt like he had at least done sothing right.
"Heh... I guess that my fair student has finally outgrown the need of ? Truly a pity when they are finally ready to leave the nest? Or maybe this is just her stubborn stage where I am just considered old and useless? Sigh.... tis a pity, a real pity..." Laz teased out loud.
Jill turned a bright shade of red at his comnts, realizing that she had taken on her hunter attitude with him...
"I... I... I..." Jill stuttered, not sure what to say.
Laz tried laying a hand on her head, but she moved it to the side, not allowing him to do so. Since, that didn’t work, Laz went with plan b and put it on her cheek instead, gently moving his head over to face him.
"I’m kidding. I’m proud of you... very proud. I wouldn’t change a thing about the you right now. No matter what happens to , you must keep going on this path and never give up, promise?" Laz said, his words a mixture of soft and strong.
Jill had to fight back the tears, but one still escaped. Laz gently wiped it away for her.
The reason she fought against him about this was because it would put him in very real danger, mostly since they didn’t know the strength of those collars or if it would stop his power. If it did, than it left him incredibly vulnerable, sothing she would not allow.
"Promise?" Laz asked, one more ti.
"Promise," Jill finally replied.
Her hair then went black as did her eyes,
"Promise," Dark Jill said as well, her eyes just as wet as her other self.
They both knew he was speaking to both of them, sothing they found both comforting and embarrassing.
"Still though," Laz leaned back and sighed,
"You’re right in the end. If I end up getting myself caught and can’t do a damn thing, what use would I be but another prisoner."
They still didn’t have a solution.
Laz started glancing around, hoping to find so inspiration when a news article from a paper caught his attention. A man walking by had a paper sticking out from the side of his briefcase, sothing that had caught Laz’s eye just from how rare it was to see soone with a newspaper.
The article was about the Hearn Corporation, a na that stuck in Laz’s head. Laz silently snatched the paper, so quickly and fluidly that not even Jill had caught sight of him until he unfolded it in front of himself. Obviously the man was none the wiser.
"Hearn Corporation’s top designer has unveiled their new winter collection line, to go on sale at all of their stores across the globe. The interview with the dynamite designer and the ground breaking, young CEO’s whose na had rocked the world," Laz read out loud, his eyes wide in surprise.
On the front page was a picture of Kennedy standing with Malene and several top models. The article wasn’t front page news, instead being in their cultural section, but there was a directing headline on the frontpage that made Laz aware of the story.
As Laz was reading, Jill ended up getting curious as to what caught his attention so much that she slid her chair next to his, only to be surprised about his choice in news articles.
"Am I missing sothing?" Jill asked once Laz had reread the article twice and put it down.
"No... No... I just... didn’t think they would be doing so well for themselves..." Laz said with a sigh finally.
"They?"
"Mmm.... Kennedy and Malene..."
"You know them?" Jill said, her eyes showing her doubt. Even before she had been taken prisoner, the Hearn Corporation was a major player in the clothing and costic line so she knew of them from her days back in school.
"Yeah. You could say that," Laz said, turning a bit shy when he thought back to what happened those years ago.
Jill might have missed it, but Dark Jill didn’t. As her hair changed and her eyes went black, Laz could see the questioning smile on her face.
"Did you have a relationship with one of them?" Dark Jill asked, her interest stoked.
"It’s not sothing..."
"You promised to always tell the truth, no matter what..." Dark Jill interrupted, going back to what Laz had told them a few nights ago when Jill had an episode.
While her dark half had protected her mind from the worst of the years of her confinent, that didn’t an Jill was ignorant about it. Sotis, when they slept, the nightmares would co and Jill would wake up screaming, sothing that her dark half couldn’t stop even though she wanted to.
As they lay there, Laz’s strong hands wrapped around Jill’s convulsing body, he told her many things to take her mind off from her nightmares. In those tis, Jill needed reassurances about Laz as that was the only way she could feel safe, even with him. One of those things he promised to do was never to lie to her.
"Alright. Actually... i had a threeso with them..." Laz finally said, causing Dark Jill’s mouth to drop open in shock.
"No fucking way..."
"Yeah..."
"And just that?"
"Well... there was one ti later and Malene had a threeso with another girl... on top of our ti alone together... and Kennedy and I also.... anyway... it was quite a while ago. I can’t believe she owns her own company now and is worldwide with it... it’s amazing..." Laz said, trying to change the topic, sothing Dark Jill wouldn’t let happen.
"Fuck no. No way you’re just brushing this off... I want details..." Dark Jill said, the evil glint in her already pitch black eyes.
"You think that’s the best idea?" Laz shot back, imdiately stopping Dark Jill in her tracks. While she might have wanted to know, they needed to be really careful about the types of things the innocent side of Jill heard. And Dark Jill already knew that when it ca to sex between those who were awakened... it was far from vanilla.
"Later then," Dark Jill whispered, knowing that her other half would hear, but also knowing that she would appreciate not having to hear about it. Jill accepted her dark side’s fascination with sex, but Jill herself still had a hard ti with it. That why it would only co up when Jill was asleep and her other half was in control.
Laz knew the Hearn Corporation was sothing that many of his ex’s were involved in, but he didn’t know they had grown so large. What’s more, they also provided an underground service for infected all across the country, sothing Laz had taken advantage of after finding out about them through so people he had happened to stumble upon.
In fact, the reason he was here was because of a tip he had gotten from a Hearn operative after his escape from the witches compound many months ago.
Mrs. Smith was also soone he knew through Hearn contacts.
But the reason the article stood out, besides outlining the success of his past girls was that it had given him an idea so crazy, it just might work. Either that, or get him killed.
The result would be the only ti he would find the answer he needed.
But first, he needed so help.
Picking up his long ignored phone, Laz searched for and found the number for the closest Hearn owned store and dialed the number, asking the question he was told to ask from the operative he had made contact with.
"Yes. I would like to place an order for a custom dress. Would it be possible to et for a asurent? Excellent." Laz wrote down the ti and place of the eting after answering a few questions about ti, place and size.
Putting down the phone, Laz looked up at Jill.
"Ti to order you a dress. Every girl should have at least a few if she wants them..." Laz said, refusing to answer any more questions no matter how much she wanted to know.
