"Have you adapted to your new environnt?"
Rebecca Quentin smiled faintly, "I’m not a child. As long as I’m not cold or hungry, there’s nothing I can’t adapt to."
Christine Quinn held Rebecca Quentin’s hand, "Don’t play dumb with , you know what I’m asking."
Rebecca Quentin looked at Christine Quinn seriously, "Sis, I never intended to be with him, so there’s no sense of loss, let alone any difficulty in adapting."
"When you told over the phone that you were in T City, I knew sothing went wrong between you and Howard Geoffrey... Becca, tell , what exactly happened that made you separate so decisively from Howard Geoffrey?"
A bitter feeling spread in Rebecca Quentin’s chest, she took a deep breath and then inford Christine Quinn of the truth she discovered about her father’s death.
Christine Quinn was shocked upon hearing it, "Is this the reason you’ve insisted on not being with Howard Geoffrey?"
Unexpectedly, Christine Quinn’s shock wasn’t about her father’s death, Rebecca Quentin frowned, "Is this matter not serious enough?"
Christine Quinn explained, "I don’t think it’s not serious, but rather that it’s sothing that should be able to be clarified."
"What difference does clarification make?" Rebecca Quentin’s voice was sorrowful, "He can never change the fact that he pushed my father to commit suicide."
Christine Quinn consoled, "Becca, although I didn’t grow up beside my father, I love him just the sa. Hearing you say the recording implicates Howard Geoffrey in causing father’s death shocked too. But thinking about it carefully, isn’t it possible soone deliberately sent such a recording to stir up trouble between you and Howard Geoffrey?"
"I don’t care whether soone is stirring up trouble; what matters to is the fact that Howard Geoffrey caused my father’s death." Rebecca Quentin spat out with difficulty, "A human life—how could he regard it so cheaply? How could I possibly allow myself to walk down the path with soone so cold-blooded?"
Christine Quinn sighed, "I was ill at the ti, and I’m not very clear about the deal between Howard Geoffrey and father, so I can’t make a judgnt for you."
"Sis, being with him, I’m really, really tired. I can never guess his thoughts nor discern the authenticity of his feelings. So many sches and plots, I really can’t bear it..."
"But have you considered that if the accusations you placed on him are actually misunderstandings, wouldn’t you feel regret?"
Rebecca Quentin firmly shook her head, "I won’t feel regret, and today, I’m even glad that I made such a decision."
"Why?" Christine Quinn asked, puzzled.
"Because today I finally know, he never had sincere feelings for ..."
"If he had no sincere feelings, why would he waste his ti on you?"
"It’s because he and Mr. Jones were always competing, so I beca their trophy!!"
"That’s also your assumption. You should ask him to clarify."
"Yes, I could ask him many, many questions face-to-face, but what good does it do once it’s clarified? Even if he explains my father’s death to , can I just disregard the fact he got another woman pregnant?" Rebecca Quentin’s eyes were already red, her voice hoarse due to choking.
"In the end, you don’t listen to Howard Geoffrey’s explanation, not because you don’t believe what he’s saying, but because you’re afraid that once he clarifies it for you, you’ll have no reason to leave him. You don’t want him to know that what you actually care about most is the fact he has a relationship with Alice Robinson."
Christine Quinn hit the nail on the head, and Rebecca Quentin shook her head sadly, "No, it’s not like that. It’s because I don’t love him anymore. I simply don’t want to be with him."
Christine Quinn gently cradled Rebecca Quentin’s trembling face, saying softly, "Becca, Howard Geoffrey might actually have so genuine feelings for you... You ntioned receiving the email just when Howard Geoffrey went to France to rescue Alice Robinson. At that ti, Roger Leonard called to tell you Howard Geoffrey was in danger, but later Howard returned safely. I’m sure Roger Leonard intentionally called to provoke you. Howard Geoffrey must know about this incident, yet when he was in danger you chose to remain indifferent. But when he returned, he didn’t demand answers from you, nor did he express disappointnt. He still doted on you, doesn’t this show his care for you?"
Christine Quinn’s words made Rebecca Quentin think of her last conversation with Howard Geoffrey.
